End game = Acceptance…

The issue of traditional and/or culturally accepted norms is never far from the political discussion for me. Accordingly, and when I engage in these types of arguments, I always take into consideration the Left’s “smoke and mirror” media play for civil debate,  so long as in the end, theirs is the only position left as an option. For too long now the Progressive/Liberal movement in our country has been given a pass in this regard. Under the guise of “political correctness”, we have witnessed the slow but steady erosion of the fundamental and stabilizing bedrock of our society. That which we have returned to time and again throughout our storied history to carry us through, is now called into question with alarming regularity. Sadly, there are also mitigating factors which may have catastrophic consequences for our posterity.

You may have read about the recent controversy surrounding a so-called “prayer banner” hanging in a Cranston Rhode Island high school which apparently offended a “16” year old self professed “atheist”. A law suit was initiated by, you guessed it the ACLU, on behalf of the young student, and eventually the city relented for “financial reasons”. (Ironically, they still had to pay over $100,000.00 in legal fees to the ACLU). A sign of the economic times we are living in? I’d say…

Well it seems there is yet another dust up in my home “State of disarray”. A 17 year old young woman (Liz Bierendy), from Pilgrim High School in Warwick Rhode Island is now in the hot seat for painting a mural depicting, get this, a traditional family unit of a father, mother and child, as part of her project to highlight a young man’s journey to adulthood. The family portion of the mural was painted over as it may have offended some who do not espouse to this “way of life”. Huh?

Anyway, I am not going to debate the controversy itself today, but rather what I see as the real reason for it. In the simplest possible terms there are two issues in play here, financial and personal. Regarding the financial aspect, it is easy to see the Left’s ACLU tactic of carefully selecting their targets based on the opponents ability to financially fight back, (protracted court battles and the like). In these times of crippling financial problems for local governments, it is certainly a daunting proposition for any municipality to lock horns with the mighty and extraordinarily well-funded ACLU. This was ultimately the deciding factor for the City of Cranston and may be for Warwick as well. From a purely economic perspective, and on all levels of government, we have literally spent ourselves out of the ability to respond and challenge these frivolous and frankly un-American attacks, and the Left knows it. On the personal side, I will now touch that proverbial raw nerve that causes my email in-box to read – “tilt”.

In this life we are all challenged with the emotion and desire for acceptance. Everyone handles this differently considering a variety of societal factors. In the case of some however, they will cross red hot broken glass barefoot to achieve it, and others may even “cross the line” (fill in the blanks). I have said and will continue to say that, the issue of the traditional family unit, and how it may relate to the causes of gay rights and/or any other “alternative” lifestyle, is purely one of acceptance for the so-called “aggrieved” parties directly involved, and nothing more than a means to a political end/agenda for Liberal politicians pandering to a particular voter block. In all candor, many of my Liberal friends would shudder if they heard some of the references to gay people made by some Democrats with whom I have interacted over the years. That aside, I feel strongly that the line is crossed when the majority are pressured not only to legislatively accommodate the minority, but also to “accept” on a much more personal level, that which they do not believe is true or right. In the end, that acceptance is what is desired, as it justifies, reconciles and lends perceived credibility to the beliefs of the minority, albeit in their own minds. Without it, they is no victory. The problem is, this thought process flies contrary to our Constitution, in that it violates the rights of just about everyone else. What about my beliefs? What about my religion? What about the fundamental and culturally accepted and practiced norm of almost an entire nation?

On the eve of what is likely to be another unnecessary and costly battle over someone’s alleged civil rights, I would add that my commentary is in no way meant to incite a feeling of anti-gay, or for that matter anti-anything. To the contrary, I sit in judgment of no man, women or otherwise and how they choose to lead their lives. I am simply not qualified. With that said however, change simply for the sake of change, without “honest” debate, and enacted purely for “feel good” reasons, often has unintended and negative consequences. While we all have rights, and this is what sets us apart from the rest of the world, we must also remember that the cultural “baseline” on which our nation was founded reminds us those rights come not from the hand of man, and must not trample the rights of another. Bias and hate are wrong and should be challenged and condemned to be sure. But blind acceptance for the sake of political expediency begets tyranny every time.

Youthful ignorance…

Some of you may have read recently about the prayer banner controversy in a Cranston Rhode Island high school. For those who haven’t, it was another example of the ACLU’s illegitimacy in area of Constitutionality, and the exploitation of yet another young person not fully “educated” in the world.

This is something I wrote for a popular Christian newspaper that kind of sums up my individual feelings on the matter. From there I encourage all of you to research and read about the slow undoing of all that makes us who we are.

From “The Good News Today”

Hello Friends,

I’m not so old that I can’t remember my thought process back when I was 15 or 16 years old. Not yet anyway… I suppose I could have been moved to one particular cause or another, but only if prodded or persuaded by someone of age and/or so called “wisdom”. Hence my days as a not so bright “beach cleaner” with limited focus and an equally limited understanding of reality. My point is, it’s certainly a fair statement to say we mature with age. Much of what we believe in our youth is “usually” at the very least influenced by time and life’s future lessons. Therefore, when I hear a young person speak to their belief system(s) one way or another, I take that with a grain of salt and snicker under my breath remembering all of my own journeys.

I live in Barrington now but grew up in Cranston Rhode Island, and I’m familiar with the prayer banner hanging in my old school, Cranston High School West. Notably, I’ve always viewed my home city as a kind of quirky place where “keeping up with the Jones” seemed a way of life. It was hard to pin folks down as the trends changed, religious and otherwise. For this reason hypocrisy will always factor into any analysis of mine concerning events coming out of Cranston. It’s important to note however, this is a personal distinction and not an indictment of the city on mass. Appropriately, the banner is a simple statement and its words give voice to some of the most basic values every student should aspire to regardless of any religious connotation attached to it. Truth be told, the story of Jessica Ahlquist and the prayer banner is somewhat of a non-starter for me based simply on the fact that this young woman is just that, a young woman. She is barely 16 and in the very beginnings of this life developmentally. I certainly will not debate her intellect as she seems intelligent and well-spoken for her age. With that said, it is equally as clear that the ACLU is a major player in this ongoing saga. It is important to note this is an agency with a track record of manipulating puppet causes as a means to forward an agenda focused on the systematic undoing (re-doing) of our Constitution to reflect something very different than the intent of the Framers. So carefully are the Amendments “chosen” to defend, as well as the players who will ultimately be out front of the argument, that all credibility associated with this phony bunch on any subject is subsequently diminished or completely absent.

Appropriately, my Editor has asked that I not bore you with precedent on either side of the “separation clause” as this is can be a political argument I am willing to, and have taken a great distance in the past. I will simply tell you that many of our time seem predisposed to partner with agencies like the ACLU in an effort to steer folks away from what are some of the most fundamental tenets and foundations of our nation. The matter of the Framers and their intent when it came to the first amendment is clear for any who wish to (do their homework). Sadly, the only way away from a life of faith and personal responsibility is to diminish and eventually eradicate that which brought us here in the first place, that which “separates” us from the rest, and that which has allowed for our success as a culture, “one nation under God”. Ironically, it is not Jessica who carries the message of secularism and human vanity, but rather it is her parents and their generation who have failed in every way to give her the unfiltered and non-revisionist history necessary for her to at least make a 16 year olds “educated decision” on the issue. In the end it is free country and (God has given her free will). I suppose I will just have to go back to the beginning of this little piece and pray that life’s lessons may show her differently with time. Unfortunately, the message continues to be watered down with each passing generation and our posterity suffers for it. Soon we may actually find ourselves the, “be all and end all”, and then it will simply be too late…

NOTE: 3/6/12: I have just read today that the city of Cranston will now pay the ACLU $150,000.00 in legal fees after bowing to their threats of litigation. So in setting aside the collective and majority will of the people to leave in place a fundamental and historical piece of a school’s history for fear of paying through the nose, the city of Cranston will pay through the nose anyway. We are giving away our country one lawsuit at a time…

Our Heavenly Father.
Grant us each day the desire to do our best. To grow mentally and morally as well as physically. To be kind and helpful to our classmates and teachers. To be honest with ourselves as well as with others. Help us to be good sports and smile when we lose as well as when we win. Teach us the value of true friendship. Help us always to conduct ourselves so as to bring credit to Cranston High School West.

Amen.

Lambasting Limbaugh…

Well it looks like the “main stream” media will take yet another whack at Limbaugh. And once again there will be some knee jerk reactions to that “press”. Subsequently, I will be sure and remove any and all affiliation with, or purchase from “Legal Zoom”, “Quicken Loans” and “The Sleep Train”, makers of the Sleep Number Bed. And this goes for every other entity or business so quick to bow to the whining Socialists which have infiltrated and hijacked journalism in our country.

As I have said many times, Rush is not a journalist, a fact he himself has pointed out so many times on his program. He is a radio talk show personality with an opinion based show which thrives on ratings. (Ironically, all this attention does nothing but drive his ratings even further skyward). Now I will not reiterate again how the reason for the Lefts attacks on the portly pundit are obviously rooted in their failure to present and maintain any semblance of a competitive show to best him, as well as just a simple inability to compete in the arena of ideas. Basically speaking, he cleans their clocks in the ratings markers with embarrassing regularity. Moreover, every Lib show to challenge him has failed miserably because no one is interested enough to listen, (a fact which infuriates the “Fairness Doctrine” folk’s).

In this case, rush as he so often does, was using edgy stuff to draw attention to the fact that the Dems have no problem sending out the innocent to do their dirty work for them. He was reminding his listeners of exactly the tactics the Left uses, and what they essentially lead too. Everyone knows Rush does not support any initiatives which mandate insurers provide birth control to their customers, as those insurers will in turn pass that cost on to the other customers. That is just simple mathematics even an idiot understands. (Accept maybe an ideological idiot). What Rush was doing was verbally illustrating the obvious mine field Progressives send their foot soldiers through with absolutely no regard for the way they will be treated on the other side. He was drawing attention to the notion that this is not a question for prime time and never should have been. As a personal observation, I have no interest whatsoever in this young lady’s sex life, family planning issues or anything else for that matter. It is none of my business. It has little if anything to do with women’s health and everything to do with agenda based political gain. Sadly, young ideologues are often drawn into the web of deceit spun by the Obama sycophants and are subsequently labeled and unjustly ridiculed for it. “Sad but true.”

Now while Rush can be a bit brash at times, he reminds his listeners they must tune in regularly to the program and understand fully his approach to these types of issues, and the entertainment based satire he often uses to make his points.  (Anybody remember Don Imus and the shellacking he took from those poster children for racist hypocrites, Sharpton and Jackson??) This is what these guys do. If ya don’t like it, spin the knob…

Look, the bottom line here is stay out of the fire if you can’t take the heat. And to the Democrats who are now holding up this young woman as a cause celeb for no other reason than to silence Limbaugh, shame on you for your indecent and uncaring willingness to use her as a prop for your political gain.

Oh, and I will continue to post a listing of those who abandon Limbaugh, and urge all of my readers to “drop” them as well.

Tolerance???

At a time when the Middle East is in turmoil and “tolerance” is talking point #1 on the lips of many a hypocrite, Christian Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani may have already been executed for his Christian beliefs in Iran. In Afghanistan the Taliban has whipped up a fervor of anti-American and anti-Judeo/Christian sentiment over the inadvertent burning of Korans at a military air base, which threatens to destabilize that struggling country. Now I have gone over the word tolerance and its definition time and again and I’m pretty sure I understand the concept. The question I think, is does the Islamic community understand it?

Now I have been called a bigot, anti-Islam, and other vile things by my detractors when addressing the media and political double standard applied in the area of religious freedom, and that’s fine, as I know their way is to demonize as opposed to recognize and/or compromise. But my questions have always been simple ones. Where are the ringing voices of condemnation from those within the Islamic communities, both here and abroad? Where is the outrage when a good and decent family man may be hung or beheaded simply because he worships different than you? Where are those to speak on behalf of two decorated American Service people shot like animals in the backs of their heads while they were trying to help the Afghan people? And what do we tell their families when they ask, why?

The patronizing and placating of one religion at the expense of any other is a travesty. And while I have always believed that organized religion leaves complex voids in application and discipline, I do believe one’s (personal faith alone) in a higher power should never be a reason for final judgment by the hand of man.

These are the times when the moral compass of a nation founded and nurtured in freedom must be at the forefront. Not as the world’s policeman, but as purveyor and standard bearer of the flame of liberty, religious and otherwise for all mankind. These acts of violence, rooted in “human” intolerance, should be condemned publically by “all” who see them for the injustice they represent.

Now I’m not so naive to think that a perfect world is possible in this context, but it will always be easier when intellectual honesty and common sense are part of the equation. To look inward no matter what you believe and speak out for what you know in your heart to be decent and right, is the single best hope not only for America, but for the world.

Karzai is a criminal…

Why is it that our President is compelled to apologize at the drop of a hat when Muslims are “allegedly” wronged, yet walks away from an opportunity to set the record straight with regard to the Taliban in Afghanistan, and the fact that they are responsible for 70% of all civilian casualties in country? Why is it that while Christians are being shot and burned in their churches he is silent? And why does he not draw the distinction between how these Taliban animals react to events such as the Koran burning, and how a “civilized people” should voice their anger. Two more Americans are shot dead today and we are left to wonder what the heck we are defending these people for? If we can’t get this right by God, what can we get right??

Death to America? Really? It’s time clean house or get out!

Pills and more pills…

There are times when I wish I were in the room with some of these Liberal politicians when it gets a little heated. But that’s impossible because I would be less concerned about re-election as much as I would be about setting some of these opportunistic ideologues back on their heels.

I was interested to hear the line of questioning by Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y at the “contraception hearing” on Capitol Hill today when she asked “where are all the women”. Now one would say this is a good question considering the topic, and that’s where you’d be dead wrong.

The question of whether I want to pay for some else’s birth control is a simple one for me, albeit with a complicated explanation complete with political rational. The answer BTW, is emphatically NO!

That said, and after I thought about it a little more, the question was a complete and well thought out political haymaker. A cheap low ball designed to embarrass the clergy in the room and score points with all the Lefty media sitting on the floor with cameras and cramps. The problem is, and here goes my email ticker, it doesn’t have anything to do with women. If Maloney has a beef with the Catholic Church, or any church for that matter about what their “doctrine” is, then she should take it up with that church and not the American Taxpayer damn it. Furthermore, if all those hypocrites who like to identify with a particular faith but not with its principles and/or tenets have issues, then they should park their behinds in their respective church pews and take it up with their Pastors, Priests or whomever makes them feel all warm and fuzzy, and leave me out of it. I am sick to death of some people looking to the government to somehow legitimize them and everything they do!

Now I know I’ll get a bunch of mail shredding me for my lack of compassion and insight concerning the plight of every American woman in the country, but two things are for certain. And they are that: 1. If you frame the question properly and ask Americans whether they would support this mandate initiative (if it were to violate the tenets of a person’s faith), I am sure most folks would say absolutely not. And 2. The last thing in the world some crack whore is gonna be worried about while she is going about whatever it is she goes about, is trotting out to the local pharmacy to get some free pills, never mind taking them, and I don’t give a rats xxx what Bob Beckel says…

And remember: When the insurance company pays, you pay. It’s as simple as that…

Religion when it suits him…

So now our “Separation Clause” President is gonna weigh in on what Jesus would think about taxes. Yup, it seems the President of the United States has called out Christians implying that Christ would have supported his redistribution efforts. Oh brother…..

I must tell you, there are days when I have great respect for this man’s intellect, and then there are others when I question his ability to reason his way out of a paper bag. As many of you know, I very rarely jump in the religious fray because it is simply above my pay grade. But I am a believer and have read enough of the Bible to know that the POTUS’s “implication” is nothing more than a cheap political ploy. Jesus also spoke personal responsibility and self-reliance, and the Bible has many passages proclaiming the goodness of “work and success”. I mean does he take us all for fools???

I’m gonna leave this one be, as my Pastor will have my “you know what” for going down this road. But I would ask this Progressive President to adhere to that which his party celebrates and (can it) with the Jesus references. Disingenuous does not do this crap justice… This is gonna be a rough 10 months…

Donation shell game???

The Susan G. Komen Foundation (SGKF) seems to be making some headlines these days. As a rule, I really try and stay out of the women’s issues as I am obviously not qualified. That said, I can and do support several, what I believe to be worthy causes, and while SGKF may not be one of them, I think there is a certain legitimacy to the question of how they disseminate the donations they receive. One would have to assume they would target areas which could show a documented effort in the fight against breast cancer specifically. Why then is Planned Parenthood receiving money? I have done a little homework on the issue and it appears that most of the diagnostic and subsequent treatment of breast cancer issues is farmed out by the controversial agency. Moreover, I think it is fair to say that Planned Parenthood is much more oriented toward “family planning” as they like to call it, with far less emphasis on complex health issues like breast cancer.

Now as I have indicated, this is certainly not my area of expertise, and I do not wish to denigrate and or minimize in any way, the vital work being done by many well-intentioned folks associated with the SGKF. Having said that, I do have strong pro-life political views and will tell you I despise what goes on these Planned Parenthood places. So I guess my question would be why was the SGKF giving money to Planned Parenthood in the first place? And why after stopping said funding did Nancy G. Brinker appear to be a complete and total hack by bowing to political pressure and reinstating those funds?

Let’s just put it this way, if you feel strongly about pro-life issues, you would be well served to take a closer look at the SGKF to be sure that as the preeminent entity in the battle against breast cancer, they are not be distracted or persuaded away from the goal for which you give your money to see forwarded. I think this is fair.

My fellow Americans…

The President of the United States is sure to tell Congress tonight that the “state of the union” is improving. He’s done this several times already. But here’s what he will really be saying:

Now here's what I really mean....

My fellow Americans, I believe that our nation must be one with other nations and that we have enjoyed far more success than we are rightfully entitled to. Our exceptionalism has come not as a result of hard work, sacrifice and entrepreneurial initiatives born of God-given freedom and liberty, but rather at the expense of the rest of the world, and it is high time we pay the price. My intention is to transform our nation using the European model of big government and featuring entitlement as the primary mind-set of the people. I will continue to push for “reforms” which create a larger and more vocal entitlement class who know only protest and class warfare as answers for their lot in life, and who have little or no interest in success based on diligence and effort. I will tell Americans that $48,000.00 in debt to each and every child born this day, and a “real numbers” national debt of $202 trillion is a small price to pay for our place in the world, and I will demonize Capitalism as the root of all evil and the free market enterprise as merely a tool of the rich. I will re-write history to convince the impressionable youth of our nation that we are the problem and must suffer for all of our transgressions. I will reach into the classrooms of the youngest of them and use manipulated, inconclusive and false data to make them cry about that which in many cases we are powerless to control. I will tell them there is no God and that if they believe there is, they must keep it to themselves for fear of offending. I will explain inaccurately that Columbus was a murderer and that he brought only disease to the continent, and I will teach them that Communism is just another form of government and not responsible for the deaths of tens of millions of innocent people.

And finally my fellow Americans, I will do all of this under the banner of “hope and change”. I will ostracize and vilify all who oppose me as bigots, racists, homophobes, and out of touch. I will deny the very intent of the Framers and finally wash away all remaining memories of a government “of the people, by the people, for the people…

NOTE: This is merely an attempt to invite the broader debate. But it is also a reminder that to continue down our current  path with the proverbial/ideological blinders of either side of the argument firmly affixed, is tantamount to slamming the door in our children’s faces. We need to return to searching for the things which bind us…
