Little Rhody Reason…
RI DLT Director Fogarty
Rhode Island’s unemployment rate fell from 10.4 to 10.2 percent. So significant was this to the Chafee Administration, that Charles Fogarty from the Department of Labor and Training sprinted to the airwaves to tout this most momentous of occasions. After listening to Fogarty’s painful “right direction” diatribe, I did a little numbers juggling of my own.
At our present rate of recovery here in “Little Rhody”, we might be at the current national unemployment level by the year 2017. Moreover, the trending numbers, or “indicators” as they are sometimes called, do not take into consideration those who have simply dropped off the employment radar or moved away, nor do they account for small business friendliness and cost of living factors which are all “trending” badly to say the least…
Adding insult to “The Ocean States” already embarrassing economic injury, WPRO Radio Personality Dan York reminded his listeners yesterday, that if Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick has his way and lowers the state sales tax to 4.5 percent, there won’t be enough retail money left in Rhode Island to pay for an order of “Chowda” and Clamcakes…

Republicans began the session by reading the Constitution aloud on the floor of the House. Well, I think that’s a great place to start, and sends the appropriate message to the Obama Administration. It should be very clear to any “reasonable” person, that in consideration of an election decided by about the number of Republicans who stayed home, The United States of America is a nation divided right down the middle.
Now there are many reasons for this division having to do with everything from the education, or rather indoctrination of our young ones in the public school system, to a media which has forgotten its responsibilities to “We the People“, but make no mistake, we are at a turning point as a nation. The President of The United States is without any doubt an ideologue, bolstered by a second term, and who has shown he is willing to press beyond the boundaries of the Constitution and/or the Bill of Rights. Those who know him tell us this is the “entire package”, a person we did not necessarily see the first time around, though I would disagree with the notion he did not make plain “his” vision for America in 2008. Many simply chose to ignore his words for the sake of his skin color and a promised utopia. That said, there can be no illusions. President Barack Obama now sees himself as the star receiver who will carry the (progressive football of change) over the political goal line, dodging any Constitutional cornerbacks along the way. “The American People agreed with me.” This is his mantra. Be damned the nearly half of those people who voted against him and his policies. History tells us delusion is often the friend of the ideologue who sees himself as the righter of perceived wrongs.
Inevitably, right minded members of Congress now have a responsibility to forgo their respective re-election chances and do what must be done to stop this assault on the Constitution. I submit to all of you, this battle is no less important than any our brave Soldiers have fought in order to preserve our children’s future, and the outcome no less pivotal. I now call on all of you to speak out. Start a blog, attend a hearing on an important issue and voice your opinion, or write to the editor of your local news paper. If you value our heritage of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness“, then silence and apathy are no longer options.
Fact and reason only please…
I always cut radio and television folks a little slack, as I understand the ratings component. That said, I caught a bit of John DePetro’s broadcast on 630 WPRO AM this past Friday, when he seemed to belittle callers for their notions about the Second Amendment. During the segment he attempted to define the use of firearms in the case of a government ordered forfeiture. In doing so he was pitting firearms proponents against the Rhode Island National Guard in a fictitious battle, and asking if they would fight our volunteer army in defense of their guns, a foolish and cheap assertion at best. Now it is understood that not everyone is a Constitutional scholar, but let me see if I can help you understand what your callers were trying to say as you ridiculed them on the air, Mr. DePetro.
The simple truth is that the Second Amendment does in fact have a very specific meaning, one which politicians and gun control advocates don’t like discussing. It doesn’t suggest war with our Armed Forces, but it does speak to a populace left defenseless against an unbridled government, one which has forgotten its oath and origin, and which has moved away from the Liberty for which it was formed. This nation is unique in that posture John, and dare I say, its free citizens understand some of the collateral negatives associated with the misuse of firearms by those of an evil design.
We are all mournful to the horrors of Newtown, and we are all searching for answers. However, fact and reason must rule the day if those answers are to be realized. The idea of “safety” is not related to the Second Amendment as written. In fact the violence which occurs during a mass shooting is symptomatic of much broader and complicated social manifestations, which our elected officials do not wish to be scrutinized for.
Understand something Sir, history dictates that oppression and genocide in the 20th Century were always preceded by the subjugation of the masses, very often by removing the means by which the masses might prevent that subjugation. To think that it will never happen here, is to be, well, naïve.
No one is suggesting armed confrontation with our brave men and women in uniform. But purposely misrepresenting a Constitutional Amendment for the sake of generating controversy, speaks volumes for our declining recognition and respect for the document, and just makes you part of the problem.

When I first heard about the “trillion-dollar coin” story, I thought the person who emailed me about it was kidding. After some quick research however, I could not believe someone or some entity would actually suggest such a reckless idea. Now, it’s even being reported that the White House is hedging on ruling it out! Only in the age of Obama would our government be considering “creating” phony collateral to sidestep our debt. These people must truly be the quintessential Progressive deadbeats out to destroy our country. What other possible motive could they have for even bringing up such foolishness?
If The United States ever tried something as irresponsible as minting a “special coin”, in an attempt to avoid its fiscal obligations here at home and abroad, by “projecting” the impression of security, economic chaos on an unimaginable scale would certainly be the result. Simply put, the time it would take for the U.S. to go from world power to global joke could be clocked with an egg timer.

Foregone conclusions…
A horrible and sickening event occurred in Newtown Connecticut this past December. A deranged person shot and killed innocent women and children at the Sandy Hook Elementary School. Consequently, there is little doubt the shock and despair associated with that incident will be with the families of the lost, as well as the nation for some time to come. Regrettably however, and in the time since that fateful day, it has become increasingly clear that the President of The United States, riding some perceived political mandate, will attempt to exploit the lost lives of Newtown in order to advance the ideological issue of gun control.
I do not say this lightly, and indeed I was willing to give the father of two young daughters the benefit of the doubt in the days immediately following the murders. Having said that, Vice President Joe Biden dropped the inevitable political bombshell today, as the newly formed “gun control task force” was meeting in Washington. Simply put, and to no one’s surprise who has been watching this Administration with any objectivity, Biden hinted Mr. Obama might in fact bypass Congress and invoke “executive privilege” to initiate gun control measures. I’m sorry folks, but this abuse of power is unnecessary and unwarranted based on the facts and common-sense. However it does give us great insight into the foregone conclusions drawn of this masquerade run by the VP. There will be no real consideration of the evidence, only a rigged outcome born of a baseless, ideological and un-Constitutional Left Wing agenda, ever-poised to strike with crisis afoot..
Make no mistake, the Newtown tragedy must serve as a catalyst for change, but not the change the President and his Left Wing buddies desire. Sandy Hook should remind us that in any free society there will be evil which must be addressed. Not with the stroke of a pen, or the politically motivated band-aid solution of a self-aggrandizing politician, but rather by way of education, community, prayer, and a fact-based common-sense approach which provides security while preserving liberty. That is the American way, and the best way to honor the memories of those little angels and their teachers.

Al Gore is a smart man. He sold a global warming bill of goods to a public, shanghaied by a complicit “main stream” press. Indeed many bought into the lie of a “man caused planetary demise”, and remain thoroughly brainwashed today. Folks all over the country ran out and bought smart light bulbs and started riding their bikes to work. The yuppie guilt factor kicked in and many a parent started adopting polar bears while crying at night with their children, and praying the fury carnivores would be alright. (Well, maybe not praying.) Solar and wind power, along with electric cars are now synonymous with the Democrat party platform, and the fossil fuel industry is demonized as if having brought some scourge upon mankind, when in fact if it were not for oil, natural gas, and coal, our world would be a very different and unforgiving place. Moreover, The United States currently sits on the largest shale oil supply in the world, to the tune of nearly a trillion barrels, and could easily achieve the goal of energy independence in less than 7 years if we chose to.
Nevertheless, the former VP has done a masterful job of marrying this cause and is almost a billionaire for his fraudulent and disingenuous efforts. And now he has gone and sold his 65,000 (strong) audience network to the very people who have made their fortunes selling that which he has demonized with such zeal, for the grossly inflated price of a half billion dollars, from which he will profit 100 million. Now the true motivation behind this sale to Al-Jazeera (aside from huge financial gain), is an entirely different and all-together puzzling issue for another day. Having said that, I’m wondering if anyone out there who read his books, or watched his discredited film, are having any second thoughts about this pompous but very calculating liar.
The Self Destruct Button…
The so-called “fiscal cliff” was nothing more than a response to the accountability gauntlet laid out by both the WH and Congress, intended to make “We the People” believe our representative government actually gave a rats you know what about our kids futures. In essence, a made up deadline that when reached, only triggers the cold and broken reality of gridlock politics in Washington.
Now the “debt ceiling”, well that’s a whole different ball game. So it was interesting to hear the POTUS going on about how Republicans somehow want to prevent the nation from paying its bills on his weekly radio broadcast. (No Sir, they want to keep those bills from growing beyond our “ability” to pay them). He even attempted to draw a comparison line to the government shut-down of 1995. In fairness, some of the political components may be the same. But the monetary dynamic is something very different, and unlike anything we have ever faced before. The numbers today are, for all intents and purposes, the end of the “green back” road for us. At nearly sixteen and one half trillion dollars in debt, The United States is not only broke Mr. President, it’s darn near bankrupt, and credit reporting agencies like Moody’s know it. Consequently, and in full view of this financial Tsunami, Mr. Obama’s approach in the weeks ahead will be to ask for yet another blank check, signed by the next generation, so he can burn off another boat load of borrowed money that we just don’t have, on a bunch of foolishness that just doesn’t work.
So as our economy remains on life support, with its full potential reined in by bureaucrats in Washington bent on ideological change, “We the People” are left to watch in utter confusion, as those sent to represent our best interest prepare to push the self-destruct button on our economy, as well as a better America for our children.
A time for serious people…
Providence City Council Majority Leader Seth Yurdin
Listening to Providence City Council Majority Leader Seth Yurdin yesterday, reminded me that freedom has no enemy like ignorance, willful or otherwise. As many cities and towns now rush to initiate their own responses to the Sandy Hook tragedy, it is increasingly clear that politics will be at the forefront, with fact and reason struggling to keep up. I would only ask Mr. Yurdin what his thoughts are concerning gang violence (as well as many other types of violence) in our capital city, and also what he thinks are the root causes of much of that violence. I’m very sure he would migrate directly back to the question of firearms, and completely ignore the fundamental and obvious issues of broken families, poverty, unemployment, education, drugs and host of other factors which ultimately drive that violence. Accordingly, and in the absence of any recognizable moral code or self-discipline, Yurdin will exploit the Newton nightmare to its fullest potential, and take the political train as far down the track as possible, extracting as much opportunistic face time as he can along the way. I would simply ask those voting in the affirmative on the recent gun control resolution, to get off their irresponsible behinds, get the facts, and then get out into their communities to do the business of the people. Enough with the self-promoting band aid politics! Disgraceful…
Stand Fast!!!
John Boehner was re-elected for a second term as Speaker of House yesterday, but not without some drama. From what I am hearing, Boehner just cleared the threshold requiring a second round of balloting, with 220 votes. Apparently, there were as many as nine Republican defections.
My take on this is simple. At no time in recent memory has it been more important for our elected representatives to stand on sound fiscal principle. The days of “bi-partisan” shenanigans at the expense of our children must come to an end. And unlike many dreamers out there, I know this has absolutely nothing to do with “inclusiveness” under one tent or another. I am not confused nor will I be swayed from the reality that “We the People” have allowed Washington to financially undo The United States of America. I ask the Speaker to lead in a way which will make him synonymous with our nation’s revival, not its demise.
With the election over, and as we await an Inauguration to mark the peaceful transition from one term to another for President Obama, I remain hopeful Americans will wake from their dreams of utopian bliss and realize our wounds are by and large self-inflicted. And in doing so, chart a new course back to that which makes this, the greatest nation on the face of the earth.

I was going to do another story on averting “sequestration”, however it appears our elected officials have now successfully kicked the “fiscal cliff” down the road yet again. Thanks folks, I’ll try and explain it to my son when he is older… What a sick joke…
Moving along, I will do my best to avoid the nausea associated with the contempt I know these Washington elitists have for us, and go to another hot button topic, “gun control”. It seems there is a letter circulating from a retired Marine Corporal in which he takes issue with Senator Feinstein’s gun control initiatives. Now I will not bore you again with my opinions of Feinstein, they are well known. Instead I am including the text of the letter so you may judge for yourself. I will then offer a “rebuttal” of sorts, as offered by Des-Moines Register Reporter Donald Kaul.
Senator Dianne Feinstein,
I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government’s right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same a crime. You ma’am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one.
I am not your subject. I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America.
I am the man who fought for my country. I am the man who learned. I am an American. You will not tell me that I must register my semi-automatic AR-15 because of the actions of some evil man.
I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public.
We, the people, deserve better than you.

In contrast, and as evidence of the extraordinary and subversive intent of those who mean to circumvent our nation’s Constitution, I would like to add the comments of Des-Moines Register Reporter Donald Kaul. It seems Mr. Kaul does not have much love for the NRA, or for that matter, certain members of Congress. He calls for the burning and then leveling of the NRA Headquarters in Virginia, as well as the torture of House Speaker Boehner and Senate Minority Leader McConnell. Now I’m not sure, but as former law enforcement officer, prison guard and now crime prevention officer, that sounds a lot like threats of arson, and of assault against an elected official. So, in the absence of any reasonable or cognitive argument on the part of this “evil” nut job, I would encourage the Des-Moines Police Department, the FBI, BATFE and the Secret Service, to waste no time in investigating these statements and this person.
This is what I mean when I ask that you only listen to the voice of the Left in matters of Constitutional worth. These are the true and dangerous radicals who have hijacked the Democratic Party. Of course you probably won’t read or hear about this story outside of the FOX Network or talk radio, as the “main stream” press is completely and totally of the same mind and concept as Mr. Kaul. Having said that, and as far as I’m concerned, Mr. Kaul is clearly “the” person who should be on every cops radar, and is a great example of a potentially violent offender “red flag” case.

• Repeal the Second Amendment, the part about guns anyway. It’s badly written, confusing and more trouble than it’s worth. It offers an absolute right to gun ownership, but it puts it in the context of the need for a “well-regulated militia.” We don’t make our militia bring their own guns to battles. And surely the Founders couldn’t have envisioned weapons like those used in the Newtown shooting when they guaranteed gun rights. Owning a gun should be a privilege, not a right.
• Declare the NRA a terrorist organization and make membership illegal. Hey! We did it to the Communist Party, and the NRA has led to the deaths of more of us than American Commies ever did. (I would also raze the organization’s headquarters, clear the rubble and salt the earth, but that’s optional.) Make ownership of unlicensed assault rifles a felony. If some people refused to give up their guns, that “prying the guns from their cold, dead hands” thing works for me.
• Then I would tie Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, our esteemed Republican leaders, to the back of a Chevy pickup truck and drag them around a parking lot until they saw the light on gun control.
Well there you have it. I would ask the President and all those who claim they desire a “legitimate and productive conversation” about keeping our kids safe from gun violence, “did you mean with this foolish idiot, Sir???”
