Lessons for Lefties…

Bob Woodward

Bob Woodward

This dust-up between poor “Watergate Bob Woodward” and the White House over sequestration tells the story of what happens when you fall out of grace with the Left Wing Machine. Astonishingly, it appears the lap-dog Obama media have also thrown (one of their own) over the side.

I have said many times that this President and his college sycophants play fast and loose with a Constitution they don’t respect. From the very beginning, President Obama made no secret of the fact he intended to get his way regardless of any “Congressional oversight”. But when I heard Lou Dobbs speaking with Megyn Kelly recently on “Happening Now”, it really kinda hit home. Dobbs was incensed at the lack of outrage over the Administration’s side stepping of Congress and the “work” for benefits clause in the Clinton Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996. He pointed out the President has no authority to pick and choose what laws he will abide by. Dobbs commented further on how “patient” Congress has been in similar situations, when the POTUS basically imposed his will at the expense of separation of powers and/or the appearance of any co-equal function of government in Washington.

I think when you look at the last five years in totality, and then listen to the well documented comments made by Mr. Obama and his over-educated but inexperienced side-kicks, you will find they have little regard for a process which empowers “We the People” first. Moreover, it appears they mean to bully and intimidate anyone in their way, including past collaborators.

Rush and Bill…

Rush Limbaugh

Rush Limbaugh

I think there’s an interesting debate to be had over Rush’s latest comments regarding how he sees our nation. That said, I always preface my comments about Rush by reminding everyone he’s a radio personality, albeit an extraordinarily popular one.

Look, when we have a man running the country who I frankly wouldn’t give a second job interview to, doing a pretty damn good job convincing American’s that shaving 1 penny off each dollar spent in Washington will bring about end times, it does say something about whether or not folks are doing their homework. I argue every day with people who are simply unable to move past their ideological prejudice to the facts. I literally find myself managing my time away from folks who are just too far-gone to partake of a legitimate debate. I can’t even imagine being on Limbaugh’s level, (though I wouldn’t mind that paycheck).

Bill O'Reilly

Bill O’Reilly

Nevertheless, I think Bill O’Reilly’s analysis is a bit closer to the actual reality than Rush’s, or at least I hope so. He thinks more and more people are just plain selfish. For my part, I’m concerned the proverbial clock is ticking while this battle for the soul of our country, which I predicted some years ago, rages on. Moreover, I remain convinced the President of the United States is a narcissistic ideologue first, who means to leave this nation humbled in the wake of his time in office. To that, I believe Americans would do well to wake up and smell the political coffee.

Lost wisdom at Providence College…

220px-Sheldon_Whitehouse_2010My opinions on Sheldon “Silver Spoon” Whitehouse are no secret, nor is my assertion he is unfit to hold any public office. With that said today, I remain confused at how and why this clearly pro-abortion politician winds up giving a major policy speech at an esteemed Catholic Institution of higher learning. The sort of strange and quasi-historical  “double standard” applied by folks like Rev. Brian Shanley in his press release on the matter, is nothing short of unsettling. Rest assured however, I mean to understand how it is that opportunistic and ideological demagogues like Senator Whitehouse are allowed an unchallenged platform in a place where God’s words “Thou shall not kill” should bar them at the door.

Now I think anyone with half a brain can figure out Whitehouse is looking for a couple of snapshots with the good Reverend to use in future campaigns. The question is, why does Tom Tancredo get the axe because his positions on immigration don’t jive with Bishop Tobin’s, but Whitehouse is allowed in with the blood of the unborn on his hands.

This just doesn’t pass the sniff test for me. The administrators over at PC, (home of my beloved Friar’s), are gonna have to do better than a little press release before they skate on this one.

The truth, brought to you by real world experience…

Even M. Todd stared down evil and gave justification for his life to the devil manifested. I for one will respect his experience in place of President Obama’s opportunistic and ideological politics every time…

Unedited from “The Blaze” –

Mr. President,

As a student who was shot and wounded during the Columbine massacre, I have a few thoughts on the current gun debate. In regards to your gun control initiatives:

Universal Background Checks

First, a universal background check will have many devastating effects. It will arguably have the opposite impact of what you propose. If adopted, criminals will know that they can not pass a background check legally, so they will resort to other avenues. With the conditions being set by this initiative, it will create a large black market for weapons and will support more criminal activity and funnel additional money into the hands of thugs, criminals, and people who will do harm to American citizens.

Second, universal background checks will create a huge bureaucracy that will cost an enormous amount of tax payers dollars and will straddle us with more debt. We cannot afford it now, let alone create another function of government that will have a huge monthly bill attached to it.

Third, is a universal background check system possible without universal gun registration? If so, please define it for us. Universal registration can easily be used for universal confiscation. I am not at all implying that you, sir, would try such a measure, but we do need to think about our actions through the lens of time.

It is not impossible to think that a tyrant, to the likes of Mao, Castro, Che, Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, and others, could possibly rise to power in America. It could be five, ten, twenty, or one hundred years from now — but future generations have the natural right to protect themselves from tyrannical government just as much as we currently do. It is safe to assume that this liberty that our forefathers secured has been a thorn in the side of would-be tyrants ever since the Second Amendment was adopted.

Ban on Military-Style Assault Weapons

The evidence is very clear pertaining to the inadequacies of the assault weapons ban. It had little to no effect when it was in place from 1994 until 2004. It was during this time that I personally witnessed two fellow students murder twelve of my classmates and one teacher. The assault weapons ban did not deter these two murderers, nor did the other thirty-something laws that they broke.

Gun ownership is at an all time high. And although tragedies like Columbine and Newtown are exploited by ideologues and special-interest lobbying groups, crime is at an all time low. The people have spoken. Gun store shelves have been emptied. Gun shows are breaking attendance records. Gun manufacturers are sold out and back ordered. Shortages on ammo and firearms are countrywide. The American people have spoken and are telling you that our Second Amendment shall not be infringed.

10-Round Limit for Magazines

Virginia Tech was the site of the deadliest school shooting in U.S. history. Seung-Hui Cho used two of the smallest caliber hand guns manufactured and a handful of ten round magazines. There are no substantial facts that prove that limited magazines would make any difference at all. Second, this is just another law that endangers law-abiding citizens. I’ve heard you ask, “why does someone need 30 bullets to kill a deer?”

Let me ask you this: Why would you prefer criminals to have the ability to out-gun law-abiding citizens? Under this policy, criminals will still have their 30-round magazines, but the average American will not. Whose side are you on?

Lastly, when did they government get into the business of regulating “needs?” This is yet another example of government overreaching and straying from its intended purpose.

Selling to Criminals

Mr. President, these are your words: “And finally, Congress needs to help, rather than hinder, law enforcement as it does its job. We should get tougher on people who buy guns with the express purpose of turning around and selling them to criminals. And we should severely punish anybody who helps them do this.”

Why don’t we start with Eric Holder and thoroughly investigate the Fast and Furious program?

Furthermore, the vast majority of these mass murderers bought their weapons legally and jumped through all the hoops —  because they were determined to murder. Adding more hoops and red tape will not stop these types of people. It doesn’t now — so what makes you think it will in the future? Criminals who cannot buy guns legally just resort to the black market.

Criminals and murderers will always find a way.

Critical Examination

Mr. President, in theory, your initiatives and proposals sound warm and fuzzy — but in reality they are far from what we need. Your initiatives seem to punish law-abiding American citizens and enable the murderers, thugs, and other lowlifes who wish to do harm to others.

Let me be clear: These ideas are the worst possible initiatives if you seriously care about saving lives and also upholding your oath of office. There is no dictate, law, or regulation that will stop bad things from happening — and you know that. Yet you continue to push the rhetoric. Why?

You said, “If we can save just one person it is worth it.” Well here are a few ideas that will save more that one individual:

First, forget all of your current initiatives and 23 purposed executive orders. They will do nothing more than impede law-abiding citizens and breach the intent of the Constitution. Each initiative steals freedom, grants more power to an already-overreaching government, and empowers and enables criminals to run amok.

Second, press Congress to repeal the “Gun Free Zone Act.” Don’t allow America’s teachers and students to be endangered one-day more. These parents and teachers have the natural right to defend themselves and not be looked at as criminals. There is no reason teachers must disarm themselves to perform their jobs. There is also no reason a parent or volunteer should be disarmed when they cross the school line.

This is your chance to correct history and restore liberty. This simple act of restoring freedom will deter would-be murderers and for those who try, they will be met with resistance.

Mr. President, do the right thing, restore freedom, and save lives. Show the American people that you stand with them and not with thugs and criminals.

Respectfully,

Severely Concerned Citizen, Evan M. Todd

“Sequestration 2013″…

CONGRESS-articleLargeAs I look at “sequestration” and the intense political drama playing out in advance of the issue, it appears President Obama may just get his wish after all. In essence, the whole idea of sequester was put forth in order to create a sense of urgency over our critical debt, as well as the spending on both sides of the aisle which created it. In reality though, why the heck would anyone need to be motivated to act on something so potentially catastrophic as nearly $17 trillion in bad debt.

Now Libs in Washington have done a great job of dressing up this monster pig as something less than the death knell it and “Obamacare” will be for our economy, but the truth is coming to the surface like so much “you know what” in a clogged bowl. However, if nearly $1 trillion in interest a year by 2020 isn’t enough to get Nancy Pelosi to admit we’re spending entirely too much of our grandchildren’s money, than I don’t know what is.

At the end of the day, I am of the mind this sequester, (as the President has proposed), should go forward in order to force the debate over how Washington is spending taxpayer money. Moreover, if our elected officials do not have the intestinal fortitude to advocate on behalf of our posterity, and in spite of their own selfish and ideological shortcomings, than all may indeed be lost.

It was a tough year…

images2001 is a year seared into the minds of Americans for obvious reasons. The terrorist attacks of 9/11 will hold a definitive place in our collective national psyche forever. But in February of that same year, America lost something else. Ralph Dale Earnhardt, Sr. (April 29, 1951 – February 18, 2001) was the epitome of a small town boy with dreams so bright and alive with the American spirit, it was obvious to anyone who knew him that one day those dreams would be realized. “Dale Earnhardt” would eventually conquer the adversity of less than humble beginnings to achieve all he hoped for and more. To his fans he represented the unique opportunity of this country if one is willing to commit to the journey. More than a decade after a high speed crash at his beloved Daytona International Speedway took his life, Earnhardt is still revered for the “rags to riches” story of a poor boy from Kannapolis, North Carolina who became a seven time champion of auto racing.

2001 was indeed a year that touched me profoundly, but as I look back on it there were many reasons why. Our nation’s soul was exposed to the world and has been in question ever since. Dale’s death brought his life story and NASCAR to just about every American television. Race fan or not, in many ways it opened the book on who we are. 9/11 would eventually beg the question, do we have what it takes to understand and preserve what we found in that book.

72495959_crop_650x440As an unwavering Earnhardt fan from way back, February 18th is not only a sad time when taken in the context above, but also a hopeful time for me, as I continue to believe in the “American Dream” represented by Dale’s life and legacy. That dream is not necessarily something tangible we may put our hands on, but rather it’s a feeling deep inside we know belongs to each and every one of us. That day I lost my hero, and the horrible day that followed just seven months later when we lost so many heroes, remind me to hold fast to that dream, and never take for granted all of the opportunities and blessings that come with it.

This is the day I remember (all of 2001), and how we mustn’t ignore the lessons of that year, from the beginning to the end…

The Mission…

Rubio_Marco_headshot_PhotoGalleryClearly Senator Marco Rubio (R) FL, scares the crap out of the Left. He is a young, energetic and articulate family man, whose fellow citizens saw fit to send to Washington in their stead. Even worse though, he’s a Latino Conservative with immigrant parents. (Insert collective Liberal gasp here.) Somebody get me some water…

Having stated the obvious, what really got to me after Rubio’s Republican response to the SOTU, was the infantile criticism about the “water bottle”, compliments of the pathetic “lame Stream Press”. Now it should be understood, that if you take anything Chris Matthews says as substantive or meaningful in terms of journalistic credibility, you definitely need your head examined. But this went beyond mean-spirited, bordering on outright foolishness not worthy of the time slot. I thought I was watching Saturday Night Live. This wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for the fact Rubio destroyed everything the President put out there in his Socialist State of the Union, inside of ten minutes. He was simply parched because he speed talked himself dry with the facts, something Mr. Obama need not worry about.

It is indeed unfortunate, that at a time when we need our press folks out there fact checking all of our elected leaders, they instead grovel at the seat of power like a bunch of school yard rejects, basking in the light of relevancy granted them by this “Community Organizer in Chief”. Revenge of the News Nerds, starring Chris Matthews, and guest starring the kooky casts of MSNBC, NBC, CNN, ABC, CBS and so on…

Nevertheless, it should come as no surprise, the “mission” of the Left Wing Media is to destroy Rubio at all costs. The last thing these nerds want is a successful Latino who walks the walk, coming along and debunking all their Progressive BS.

“Skin in the game”…

Dr. Benjamin Carson is the kind of man we should be sending to Washington. If not for the fact he is a doctor (a pediatric brain surgeon no less), and we are in such short supply of doctors because of Obamacare, I would start a petition today to draft him for a political run. Why do I say this, you ask?

175974_5_I caught just a bit of his remarks at the recent National Prayer Breakfast where he lectured and President on healthcare and then schooled him on tax reform. This man has two things which are clearly in short supply in Congress these days, character and common sense. His basic premise on taxes (as described in his book, “America the Beautiful”),  is a “flat tax” for all, very much like a “religious tithe”, would dramatically simplify the tax code and solve most of Washington’s spending vs. revenue issues. It would also go a long way to rooting out the political evil which now presides over our finances. Simply put, an across the board percentage of one single and mutually agreed upon “denomination” would be applied to every working American (and collecting one). Obviously, if you have some “skin in the game”, you are naturally more inclined to be concerned with how “your” money gets spent. Moreover, the incentive to better ones fiscal position, is reinforced by the notion that you are treated no differently than any other tax payer. The flip side of that coin of course, is that you should expect no different accommodation.

The videos and web page below are about as sensible an approach as I have heard in some time. There is no dark political objective, and no prevalent ideology with the exception of that which is our cultural, and undeniable national origin. I must agree, a “flat tax” would be the single best solution to our financial troubles to come along in over eighty years, and would return our nation to its Constitutional foundations. Politicians take note, “We the People” are gonna get this message eventually. Unfortunately, the rest of what Dr. Carson has to say is only for those who love and appreciate their country.

All The President’s Media…

"Let me be clear..."

“Let me be clear…”

“We the People” must go to the media in one form or another for our information, but it’s not that simple anymore. There are many checks and balances available to us in the 21st century, so we may reconcile much if not all of what we hear. This requires effort however, and in many cases, intestinal fortitude if we truly desire the facts on any issue. With this in mind, there is no single news agency or pundit that/who gets it right 100 percent of the time, including this one. But when the man in the highest office in the land, a man charged by sworn oath to defend the rights of “We the People” as outlined in the Constitution, starts telling us who we should be getting our “information” from, it’s problematic to say the least. It shows us how little these supposedly learned and certainly untested academics we’ve sent to represent us, really understand about our Constitution. In an era when we are hearing professors, sheltered within the alternate universe of higher education, advocate we “dump” the founding documents in favor of “a new and more modern approach”, one can only conclude this nation, which has set the mark for human dignity and God given liberty, is sliding perilously close to a deep and dangerous precipice.

I was talking with a Liberal friend recently who fervently believes Bush 43 should be tried and “hanged” for treason. I chuckled and then shuddered a bit as I realized he was dead serious. It was at that moment I realized the battle lines have definitely shifted, and we can now see the unabashed and true intent of the Left. These are the folks who scream for justice at the loss of innocent young lives in Newtown Connecticut, yet defend something as gruesome and inhuman as partial birth abortion. They are the people who advocate for more spending on behalf of the “less fortunate”, but seek to destroy the means by which to pay for it. And they are citizens of this country who see it’s worth only in terms of how they may systematically dismantle everything it stands for, in order to make it fit some 1960’s narcotics driven version of the truth. Not surprisingly, their voices are now given weight with the 2nd election of an inexperienced, ideological and partisan standard-bearer. Moreover, that man, our President, now sees certain segments of the media as threats to the realization of this twisted and shallow dream of “Utopia”. Sounds scary doesn’t it.

Well I’ve listened to statements made by President Obama recently, and tried mightily to figure out how CBS could have had the nerve to air their recent “interview” with Mr. Obama and Secretary Clinton, and I couldn’t help but wonder how any fair minded person could come to any conclusion other than the following. With the exception of FOX News, and certain talk-radio shows, the press is largely and even gushingly sympathetic to this President and his ideology. Regrettably, these same media outlets, and those who own and operate them, have cast aside any shred of journalistic credibility they may have hidden away under the clever disguises of icons like Brokaw and Cronkite, two admitted but cautious and calculating Liberals.

Much of the battle to come will be fought inside these lines as folks gravitate to one camp or the other. In the end, it will not be which ideology you subscribe too, or which news outlet you feel best represents your view, but rather our future as a nation will be determined by whether or not “We the People” do our own homework, or whether we buy into the “main stream media’s” and/or the President’s interpretation of what we know to be true of our freedom and our Constitution.

For fear of “We the People”…

linton-3fa8c769e38236131da808da9e567a363b112186-s6-c10I was interested to read some of the comments made by those who attended the (anti- NRA rally), which is what it was, in Washington this past week. Consequently, it’s pretty clear many folks are just uninformed when it comes to our Constitution and the Amendments to it. When you take this in context with other historical challenges to the next generation, it isn’t hard to see why we’re in this mess.

Now there’s plenty of blame to go around, from the revisionists who’ve infiltrated our public schools, to the political opportunists content to look the other way when misinformation facilitates their own selfish endeavor. We may even look in our own homes where some parents fail to set the record straight. Nevertheless, I’m going to take one more crack at the Second Amendment for those who still don’t get it.

Putting aside the numbers, because we understand the real numbers collected by our own government don’t support the argument for “gun control”, and even forgoing the “Lame Stream Media’s” ratings driven sensationalism, as well as their unabashed “solidarity” with 44, you must understand, the Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting!

If I hear one more brain surgeon talking about “not wanting to take away my hunting rifle”, I’m gonna scream. For the record, the Amendment was debated and added on the premise that an armed “We———the People”, as the POTUS puts it, could not only protect ourselves from would be assailants, but that one of those assailants might just be a renegade government. As difficult as it may be for some to accept, the intent was to ensure “the people” never be deprived of the ability to take up arms and reconstitute, and/or even replace their government, thus the true power would always rest with “the people”. This right is truly unique among nations.

Now understanding of the Second Amendment doesn’t make me a radical who supports armed rebellion, but rather it makes you an idiot for not doing your homework and realizing why our Constitution is such an important document. Or is it something else? Maybe, just maybe, the true intent of the Amendment is what Liberal Progressives fear most, and they seek to destroy it by exploiting grievous tragedy and misrepresenting the facts as they do. Hmmm…
