Punch Line…

President Obama kicked off his campaign on familiar ground today, a university campus. His strategists are certainly advising him well to seek safe haven among the young, inexperienced and easily manipulated sheep who flocked to his 2008 adventure. Help from Moderates will be much harder to garner this time around however. Many who may still be inclined to voice their support for the President in a Starbucks Wi-Fi Hot Spot, are far less likely to shade in the line next to his name behind a voting booth curtain in November.

Make no mistake though, the Progressive Left will be at the Polls in force to cast their votes for the man who brought their Socialist causes to the mainstream under the disguise of “hope and change”. But for those who saw Mr. Obama’s election as vindication of their 1960’s feel good ideology, and who are now finding it difficult to reconcile Utopia against the reality of mortgages, retirement, healthcare and the price of gas, “hope and change” has been relegated to the trash heap of history like so many campaign punch lines of old.

The mantra today was, “we have come too far to turn back now“. Well Mr. President, with all due respect, turning back now is our only “hope”…

“Air War”…

Campaign stop?

I would remind Sheppard Smith of FOX News that it was the POTUS himself who launched the ad suggesting Mitt Romney would not have seized the opportunity (provided him by his predecessor) to take out OBL. It was the President’s campaign team which manipulated and took Romney’s words completely out of context, and used them as the first salvo in a campaign that is likely to see a far more dramatic and nasty “air war”. “To be clear”, Romney himself seemed almost disgusted that this non-issue has even been raised.

I just love it when Libs lament against the politicization of certain events, when in fact it is they who fire the first shot most of time…

Out of Bounds…

Make no mistake, I fully support the President for giving the order so our brave soldiers could bring Osama bin Muhammad bin Awad bin Laden to room temperature. It was high time he pay the price for the innocent humanity he extinguished. I must however, be just as quick to be disgusted with the use of that momentous event as a political tool. Very much like when he was elected, I hoped President Obama would see the significance of the day and file it in the appropriate category of “obvious but out of bounds” in certain respects. Moreover, the suggestion that anyone in his position would not have seized the moment to cap that insufferable scumbag is almost too silly to reconcile.

In fairness, I think we can have a very lengthy and vetted discussion about the approach of the President when it comes to foreign policy. I for one think it has been a learning experience for the man who would be king, and that he has both overreached on, and missed opportunities to make the world a better place for our kids. I also believe that a thorough understanding of the unique role of The United States in this volatile and ever-changing world should always be a prerequisite for the highest office. “On the job training” for a POTUS will always lead to miscues like the killing of American citizens without due process, as well as hesitation in a NATO application. Having said that, I will give credit where it is deserved. The President of the United States showed great leadership during the time of OBL’s discovery and subsequent check out. It should however, not be a campaign slogan or punch line on late night television. Such exploitation only dishonors the memories of those that monster killed.

Let the record show…

I think it’s pretty obvious Team Obama won’t run on their record in 2012. Let’s face it, the “real” numbers, and dramatically low standards this Administration has put forth as evidence of recovery, don’t exactly spell slam dunk re-election for Barack Obama. Moreover, if you believe the polls, this President has succeeded in at least one area, and that is ensuring our nation will be divided and polarized like never before on Election Day.

Let’s have a look at some facts.

The crushing national debt threatens our children’s future in ways we cannot even fathom as yet. The “student loan debt bomb” will certainly explode sooner rather than later regardless of any Election Year Band-Aid the POTUS proposes and/or applies. The chain of collapse for Medicare and Medicaid, which will culminate with the complete and total failure of Social Security by 2033, is downright frightening. It takes 3 working stiffs to support 1 Social Security beneficiary, who on average will collect for more than 20 years with 25% of seniors living to age 90. American States, cities and towns are on the verge of bankruptcy, pummeled by an elitist and unrealistic union hierarchy bent on taking their membership over the edge. The true picture of unemployment, home prices and foreclosures are dirty little secrets most Obama sycophants choose to ignore. Some others might be that the federal government spent over a Trillion dollars on entitlements last year and reported some of the highest levels of food stamp and related assistance in U.S. history. To put this in perspective, one must understand that (feel good and so-called “means tested” entitlement spending) in this country, has risen by an unbelievable 5500% since 1975, (not a typo). Nearly 150 million Americans are currently receiving some sort of government assistance today. Consequently, anyone who says we are not on the fast track to a European style economic “Slip and Slide”, is simply not in touch with reality, or worse yet actually wants such a future for America.

Now for all of you “it’s all the other guys fault” folks, I have never suggested this is entirely the fault of President Obama alone. To the contrary, the problem has roots dating back to the 1930’s. However, I do liken his approach to “fixing” it, (not his motivations which I believe are even more ideologically driven than I originally thought) to putting a gallon of gas in a jetliner, Boston to LA. Look, the facts are simple and daunting. America will fail if we don’t take action to change course. It is clear this President has a plan that is not working, at least not in a way discernible or identifiable by any cognizant and realistic citizen.

So as I cast my ballot for Mitt Romney in the Rhode Island Republican Primary today, I have this to say to my Liberal friends. I was not sleeping when Barack Obama ran for President in 2008. I listened closely and heard everything he had to say. I paid attention when he was speaking from the teleprompter and off the cuff, and I for one have no illusions about his abilities, stated intentions, motivations and vision for our country. For this reason I will take to the keyboard as often as I can and try my level best to make Americans think very carefully about their vote in 2012. Much is at stake…

Double speak…

I think it’s fair to say that our elected officials, including the President, say quite a bit when they think the microphone is turned off. Then again, if your Joe Biden what the hell difference does it make? Anything coming out of this guys mouth is a verbal minefield to be sure. Having said that, the POTUS’s recent comments to Russian President  Dmitry Medvedev speak to something a little different.

From the beginning there have been questions about the President’s representation of his true intentions. Frankly, I disagree with those who say he has been untruthful with regard to his ideological motives. However Mr. Obama has certainly played his cards in less than “transparent” fashion since his election in 2008. So when we hear him making promises that concern something as important as arms control, which will certainly affect the safety and security of “our” next generation, many of us perk up and pay attention.

I think that the best way to put this in perspective is to consider the reaction of the “main stream” press when Mitt Romney referred to Russia as our “#1 Geopolitical Foe”. Now while I would debate Mr. Romney on that assertion, I would also take umbrage with some media types out there portraying our former Cold War adversary as a model Democracy. In fact, the signs are all there that the Russian mindset appears to be one of “longing for the  good old days” when they enjoyed a bit more international respect, hence the “re-election” of Mr. Putin. Half a brain and a simple internet connection with access to Google would bear this out.

Regardless, it has been and remains my belief that our President is ideologically driven and has intentions to remake our country in the (United Nations) model. And for those who truly understand what this means, the Presidents posturing with Medvedev, or Hu Jintao, or Hamid Karzai for that matter, is an unnerving proposition/observation to say the least.

They must first desire to be free…

The aim of the Taliban is as it has been for generations, to drag a superior opponent into a protracted engagement that has rules for only that opponent. In doing so, time and

Not much about this picture has changed in a thousand years.

perception become their friends. The longer our fighting forces remain in theater, the more likely we are to see these types of horrific anomalies. Military personnel are human beings and thereby affected in very human ways by traumatic events. Granted the fighting soldier is unique in that his training mitigates some of the horrors of war, but never entirely. Eventually, and in relation to the sheer number of boots on the ground, something is bound to crack.

I want to be clear here in that I whole heartedly support our brave men and women in harms away. I believe unequivocally that you can’t support the troops and not support their mission. With that said, we now find ourselves in the position of having achieved somewhat of the objective sought after 9/11 by smashing al-Qaeda and killing bin-Laden. Unfortunately, the mission has slowly become one of nation building in a country that seems to collectively want none of it. Consequently I see only two choices.

  1. Saturate the battlefield and terminate with extreme prejudice everyone and/or thing that stands in the way of complete and total victory, at which point we may save the next generation of Afghans for freedom sake. Or-
  2. Pull up our tents pegs and get our troops home to their families as quickly as possible, and leave these people to their own devices.

If there is a lesson to be learned from the great wars, it was that full throttle warfare very often results in a timelier end to hostilities, thereby saving lives. It is important that we not now snatch defeat from the jaws of victory on this one, if for no other reason but to reward our Soldiers for their efforts and accomplishments in the name of free people everywhere.

The events in Afghanistan of the last day are a tragedy to be sure. However it is important for our leaders to send the right message. Condolences, prayers and whatever help is necessary for those left behind, but with a tag of urgency rooted in the reality of their living in a war ravaged country for far too long. It is becoming increasingly obvious that if the Afghan people truly desire to be masters of their own fate, and join with the international community in civility and peace, then help in facilitating the proper and expeditious transition of an appropriate national posture is of the utmost importance.  (Translation) – step up and take back your own country. The alternatives are listed above. One way or another, it’s time to end this thing.

Tolerance???

At a time when the Middle East is in turmoil and “tolerance” is talking point #1 on the lips of many a hypocrite, Christian Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani may have already been executed for his Christian beliefs in Iran. In Afghanistan the Taliban has whipped up a fervor of anti-American and anti-Judeo/Christian sentiment over the inadvertent burning of Korans at a military air base, which threatens to destabilize that struggling country. Now I have gone over the word tolerance and its definition time and again and I’m pretty sure I understand the concept. The question I think, is does the Islamic community understand it?

Now I have been called a bigot, anti-Islam, and other vile things by my detractors when addressing the media and political double standard applied in the area of religious freedom, and that’s fine, as I know their way is to demonize as opposed to recognize and/or compromise. But my questions have always been simple ones. Where are the ringing voices of condemnation from those within the Islamic communities, both here and abroad? Where is the outrage when a good and decent family man may be hung or beheaded simply because he worships different than you? Where are those to speak on behalf of two decorated American Service people shot like animals in the backs of their heads while they were trying to help the Afghan people? And what do we tell their families when they ask, why?

The patronizing and placating of one religion at the expense of any other is a travesty. And while I have always believed that organized religion leaves complex voids in application and discipline, I do believe one’s (personal faith alone) in a higher power should never be a reason for final judgment by the hand of man.

These are the times when the moral compass of a nation founded and nurtured in freedom must be at the forefront. Not as the world’s policeman, but as purveyor and standard bearer of the flame of liberty, religious and otherwise for all mankind. These acts of violence, rooted in “human” intolerance, should be condemned publically by “all” who see them for the injustice they represent.

Now I’m not so naive to think that a perfect world is possible in this context, but it will always be easier when intellectual honesty and common sense are part of the equation. To look inward no matter what you believe and speak out for what you know in your heart to be decent and right, is the single best hope not only for America, but for the world.

Karzai is a criminal…

Why is it that our President is compelled to apologize at the drop of a hat when Muslims are “allegedly” wronged, yet walks away from an opportunity to set the record straight with regard to the Taliban in Afghanistan, and the fact that they are responsible for 70% of all civilian casualties in country? Why is it that while Christians are being shot and burned in their churches he is silent? And why does he not draw the distinction between how these Taliban animals react to events such as the Koran burning, and how a “civilized people” should voice their anger. Two more Americans are shot dead today and we are left to wonder what the heck we are defending these people for? If we can’t get this right by God, what can we get right??

Death to America? Really? It’s time clean house or get out!

The way we were…

I seem to remember a lot of discussion about “diplomacy” in the Middle East, and how it would be preferable to the so-called “Bush Doctrine”. Since that time the current Administration has actually been operating on both sides of the proverbial fence.

On the one hand they have been ventilating al-Qaeda types over the Pakistani Boarder to the tune of about a one or two a week. And they wasted no time “double tappin” Osama’s sorry ass when the opportunity presented itself. On the other side of that coin however, their gun shy approach to Egypt, Iran, Libya and now Syria has left few options on the table in the face of some of the most critical and pivotal international events in recent memory. Our current standing in the world is no longer one of peace through strength, but rather more likely we are perceived as weak and indecisive, as well as hobbled by enormous debt and other economic woes.

America’s place within the international community has always had its foundational roots in superpower status, (and) the fact we would walk the walk if need be for that sake of sound principles and ideals. Indeed millions have died along the way to do just that. Today it appears we will pick and choose our battles in terms of some sort of perceived or classroom diplomacy, and to heck with what we stand for. In the meantime we have allowed windows of opportunity which may have saved lives on both sides to close.

I am not advocating for additional boots on the ground to be sure. But it’s the reason I’m not that bothers me. Simply put, our moral compass as a nation is off kilter and we’re broke… Sad but true…

There is a right way…

Evil x 3

As much as Ron Paul would tell you “it doesn’t matter” when looking at world events and how they relate to our own status, most intelligent folks would beg to differ. Now there is certainly something to be said for the U.S. acting as policeman for the world, and I would not argue the point that our overseas expenditures are excessive to say the least. But I do believe there is money well spent in other nations and that money can make a difference if allocated and used appropriately.

Setting aside the United States as a free and compassionate nation which feeds the world in many respects, what do we do about the violence in Syria? As a matter of fact, what do we do about the Middle East period? Now there are those who advocate for a complete “hands off” policy, and still others who are firmly affixed to the screwy notion that we created the entire mess, so we must now step aside and let the world descend into chaos and anarchy as punishment for our sins. (What troubles me is there is even anyone who supports this view). That said, the question remains where do we go from here? In the broadest of terms, a war in the Middle East should be avoided at all costs. However, the world having allowed the likes of Bashar al-Assad and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to metastasize like malignant rectal cancer, has put our collective backs to the proverbial wall. There is I believe, a way out though.

In both Iran and Syria, there are real folks fighting for freedom, literally sometimes with sticks and stones. As I know the comparison email will flow, these are not Hezbollah and Hamas folks, who are terrorists and kill innocents in the name of their sadistic and twisted ideology. No, these are people who have lived under established and murderous regimes, in some cases for generations. I believe we have an opportunity to use the clandestine skills of our intelligence agencies, along with some muscle in the form of (weaponry only), to rid these nations of the cancer that is killing them and threatening world peace. In essence, provide these people who are fighting and dying in the streets, with the means to free their own country from the clutches of evil. Not in the way that the Obama Administration did so in Egypt, as we can see what’s happening there. We must see it through and frame the argument in a simple and obvious truth. And that is in order for any nation to engage in the discourse of legitimate international diplomacy, that nation must first have a foundation which acknowledges basic human rights and freedom first. What is so wrong with celebrating that? What is so wrong with associating with and promoting that? Who other than the most ardent Socialist/Communist would say, “Well maybe human rights are just not their way”, I’m sorry??

My thought process on the matter of Syria, and frankly all the Middle East at this point, is that I support standing with our allies and supporting those who truly want freedom. And don’t tell me, that with all of our capabilities there is not a way to legitimately do this without American boots on the ground to do the heavy lifting. Freedom is never free, and this should always be the first lesson.
