The politics of immigration…

In an election year everything is fair game, though how a candidate frames the argument is often the deciding factor as to whether or not it helps their cause. There is something to be said about the fact that President Obama stole a bit of Senator Rubio’s thunder with his recent executive order concerning children of illegal’s, and how it will eventually play into Governor Romney’s stance on the border. I myself have written at length about my own conflicts when debating immigration, and executive orders for that matter. There are also questions about how difficult it will be down the road to enact comprehensive immigration reform now that the POTUS has jumped the political gun.

Ultimately for me, it came down to the President’s own words and mannerisms during his little impromptu in the Rose Garden. Now I know many will flood my email box with hate mail about how I just don’t like Mr. Obama, and how I’m a racist Republican hack. But the truth is, the President is his own worst enemy when off the cuff. I’m not going to go back and forth on this except to print a post from my Facebook account in response to a local radio personality’s post on the POTUS’s order, which for good or bad sums it up:

Matt Allen WPRO 630 AM, Rhode Island:

Matt, President Obama is revered as a great orator by many on the Left. In fact, he is an unapologetic and idealistic politician of the first order. Born of Chicago politics, condescending and elitist when challenged, and off balance when not reading from script. Appropriately, “We the People” have the extraordinary and unique power to fire him in November, but will we? This election is not about The President or Governor Romney so much as it is about us Matt… I suspect it has always been that way… Enough said…

Going political “dutch”…

"That better be a debit card".

If Republicans chewed and screwed, the Democrats certainly didn’t show up to pay the bill. They held up the joint and cleaned out the register. I mean, is this President auditioning for a Saturday Night Live gig after politics? These corny one liners are really getting tedious considering all the real life drama unfolding around our nation. I guess when you “got nutin”, you go comic…

Anyway, the POTUS is so far off base as usual, he is sure to get caught stealing. (No pun intended.) The facts though, as reported by CBS no less, show Obama has already outspent Bush’s entire eight years in office and his policies are projected to have us well beyond $20 (T)rillion in the red by 2016. The price of a gallon of gas has doubled and many feel it is the new norm. Unemployment is realistically 9.2% and American wealth has diminished a staggering 40% while the median household income is down almost 8% since 2007. The housing market is on life support and corporations are hording cash for a “double dip” they know is coming. And as if these numbers aren’t sobering enough, what is the President of the United States talking about, the “unfunded” prescription drug program of (2003). For God’s sake and by their own admission, Democrats would have overwhelmingly supported that bill had there been more government and less private sector in the final draft. Ultimately they had been begging for expanding it in one form or the other since the early 1970’s. Let’s face it, when has any “Democrat” initiative ever been “funded”? Come on Mr. President, is that all you’ve got???

Fact – This President has promised more and delivered less, (with a two house mandate through his first election cycle) than any POTUS in recent memory. And he has done so by burdening our posterity with additional debt they will never be able to pay.

Look, I’m not here to tell you, that for fear of being attacked as ogres and granny killers, Repubs haven’t signed onto a lot of unreasonable and frankly unconstitutional entitlement crap over the years just to keep from getting booted from office. What I’m saying, is that common sense tells us in our own daily budgeting that we cannot continue to spend when carrying this kind of unconscionable debt. President Barack Obama had better own up, tell the truth, and kick the “bash Bush” habit quickly, or he may just wind up an ugly foot note rather than a debatable albeit ideological chapter in American History.

Cultural miscue…

Greta Hawkins, principal of PS 90 in NYC has decided that Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” will offend other cultures and is not age appropriate for a kindergarten “graduation”.

Really?

Okay … Notwithstanding the saturation of filth and family dysfunction our children are exposed to on a daily basis just by way of their closest television screen, video game or pocket device, or the fact that this so called principal is already on record as not being the most patriotic of educators, why then is Justin Bieber’s flirty song “Baby” deemed somehow appropriate for the same venue? I know the answer to this question, however I’m curious to know what you think?

Thankfully, the outrage over this monumentally ignorant decision by Miss Hawkins is coming from the many cultures she attempts to speak for. Ultimately, the majority of those who have emigrated to this country have not done so to re-establish their culture here, but rather to assimilate into and broaden the (United States culture) and make a better way for themselves and their families. You see, what many Progressives will never admit, is that “E Pluribus Unum” is what makes our nation great. A singular culture made stronger by the “integration” of facets of other cultures, and not by diluting the core principles of its founding. I would tell you that the answer to the question of “why are we so divided today” lies in conundrums such as this one. It all comes down to who “We the People” really are. The answer may be simpler than you think. But it will have far-reaching implications if we ignore what we know to be the truth and goodness of our freedom, in favor of the politically correct and less than honorable intentions of a vocal and well-funded Progressive cause.

Please contact NYC school officials and let them know what you think about Principal Hawkins!

Watch out Senator Brown…

I’m doing my best to stay away from President Obama’s press conference comments. The level of elitism at that podium yesterday was simply too high even for me to analyze and still afford all due respect to the office. So I’ve decided to go a little closer to home today.

I supported Scott Brown for Ted Kennedy’s old seat basically because it was a historical opportunity to shake loose the Progressive strangle hold on Massachusetts. Frankly, Senator Brown was and has been somewhat less than Conservative on most issues. However he certainly doesn’t resemble the (“Liberal” Lion of the Senate) in any way. Truth be told, he is even advertising the fact that he was voted the most “bi-partisan” Senator of the bunch. As I’ve said, I’m all for a little “bi-partisanship” at this juncture, so long as I don’t have to vacate my principles, turn over my guns, and kneel before the corrupt “Whore house Harry Reid”.

Anyway, I read an interesting comment in the Providence Journal recently from Democratic Senatorial Candidate and Brown opponent Elizabeth Warren. I would add here that anyone who doubts this persons Liberal qualifications must be living under a rock. Brown’s “bi-partisanship” aside, Warren makes him look like Barry Goldwater. Nonetheless, I thought it was extremely telling that she was quoted at the “Netroots” Convention recently as having said, “progressives must change the conversation in Washington“. That one stand alone statement reinforces what I’ve consistently espoused concerning the true intent of the Left in this country. It is not about making our free republic better by way of a healthy debate rooted in the content of our nation’s founding documents, but rather it is about (changing) that free republic to a big government, European style entitlement state.

I am asked quite often by Liberals about the title page of my political blog, “For Patriots Only”. It seems they feel I am excluding them from the argument. I tell them simply, the only pre-qualification I have for their comments, (which are Constitutionally protected), is that they love their country for its basic principles as set forth by the Framers, and not forego those principles for the sake of failed ideologies or selfish apathy. Translation: Know your history and learn from it. Do not blame others for your station in this life, but rather use your God-given freedom and talent to succeed. And together let us leave a greater United States of America to our posterity… How’s that for changing the conversation Liz???

The Liberal frustration with “truth”…

When the President of the United States begins one of his press conferences by essentially misleading “We the People”, I simply turn off the T.V. or the live stream, because I can’t bear to listen to the rest.

He’s starting off today with the “worst recession since the Great Depression” stuff, which is debatable on so many levels, and quickly transitioning into how his administration has created 4 million jobs and seen 27 months of positive job numbers. The sad reality for so many Americans under this President is that the size of the American labor force has shrunk to its lowest per-capita level in decades down to 58.4 % from 65.5% when Bush was in office. That disparity alone obliterates any job creation under Obama at all! Moreover, the “jobs” he boasts of are a part-time at best substitute to the stable and full-time employment of the past, and have cost the taxpayers of this country literally (T)rillions of dollars in the form of so-called “stimulus” spending.

In the face of indisputable fact as well as irreconcilable numbers, our President has chosen confrontation with the opposition party and “the blame game” in place of the “hope and change” he promised to bring to Washington. Consequently, “We the People” continue to pay the price for this ideological and dangerous gamesmanship.

D-Day 6-6-44…

For freedom's sake, and for ours, remember...

Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon a great crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers in arms on other fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened, he will fight savagely.

But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man to man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our home fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to victory!

I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory!

Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.

Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower

For Kevin…

When your ready, this ones on me...

I have known many people. Few have left an impression. More often than not, human contact comes with boat loads of baggage and drama. But sometimes in this life we come across what I like to refer to as a genuine soul. This person desires only interaction with you on a simple, unassuming level, and wants nothing more than a lasting connection born of life’s experiences, yours and theirs. They will not play on your emotions nor will they manipulate your feelings. There is no ulterior motive or secondary agenda, no collateral or payment. I am not speaking of that special someone whom we marry and raise a family with. I’m speaking of a friend, a real friend.

You may come by that person in a multitude of ways and sometimes not even realize they are there. You are comfortable in their presence and stronger because of it. You make one another better and see things through the same prism of life. A bad day is made easier with a laugh and joke, and the genuine concern of this person during a difficult time is felt and acknowledged. Your family’s are inexorably linked and in the absence of one of you there will be the other. All this with no reservation…

Thankfully, that “genuine soul” to me, whom I almost lost last week, will be around so I may kick his ass for almost making me regret not having said all this sooner… Get well soon my friend. There is much to do…

Burning Bridges…

Admittedly, I have been a bit pre-occupied with our crumbling economic situation and what our elected leaders must to do to stop the bleeding. However, I heard something on the news this morning that caught my ear with regard to the qualifications of our President during these difficult times. As I’ve said from the beginning of this trip down the “Utopian Yellow Brick Road”, this Administration simply appears to be out of their league and experimenting when they should be leading.

And this is our new cow milking machine Sir...

It now seems that in the absence of any discernible record of progress here at home, the POTUS and his re-election team have opted to paint the picture of a tough President on foreign policy. From the credit hogging of the bin-Laden adventure, to the terrorist  “kill list” President Obama allegedly keeps on his desk, to the incessant leaking of classified intelligence/information regarding things like the computer virus that nearly crippled the Iranian nuclear program, and finally the outing and then abandoning of the doctor who gave us bin- Laden on a platter, it appears the Obama WH has no problem breaking every covert rule in the book as a means to secure their political future. The problem comes moving forward as we face the world having lost every ounce of credibility that once emboldened a potential freedom fighter to our cause, as these “operators” will now view the POTUS as a disingenuous and self-serving bureaucrat. Note: (Our days as that beacon of freedom and justice to the world are fading along with the President’s credibility).

When I analyze this type of “bush-league” political ineptitude, my confidence that the “Obama Brigade” is even remotely qualified to face the enormous challenges posed by our failing economy is simply not there…

PAV – Political Assault Vehicle…

No bullets, just bashing...

I am simply not going to jump on the (political rapid assault vehicle) and mindlessly ridicule the POTUS based on this latest and very sobering jobs report. Frankly the two political parties are wrapped so tight these days I think blood vessels are going to begin popping soon. I will however state the facts and appeal to President Obama’s common sense to accept that his approach is simply not working . You see, we can argue indefinitely about whose fault it was/is. But unlike many of my Lefty counterparts, I care far less about the road traveled than I do about the road forward. They are two very different avenues (arguments).

The facts are we remain heavily burdened as a nation with unsustainable debt and our government is doing little to promote either economic growth or job creation. For the President’s part, he seems focused on using an ideological mechanism as a means to quickly and fundamentally change the way our country functions, and that approach is collapsing under the weight of its own un-workability. Moreover, the usual Liberal sycophants continue to advertise this fraud as a “recovery” when it is now plainly anything but. Previous monthly and quarterly figures revised, current numbers embarrassingly, (no dangerously) low, and predictions of a total economic breakdown are the realities we face, and I am today begging our President to put his children’s country before his failing ideological vision.

Enough time has passed and this is now beyond the blame game Sir. Your numbers do not add up. There must be a balance, a place where we can meet and put our future and those of our posterity ahead of short term political gain, (ala Bill Clinton?). Even if Paul Ryan’s budget is not the answer, there must be something in there worth negotiating. Remember that all of your own budgets have been DOA as well, and in a friendly Senate no less. Maybe there is something in those documents which can be brought back to life.

My point in all of this is, I and many around this country are becoming increasingly concerned we may run out of road soon. So concerned in fact, that this Conservative pundit has no qualms about meeting in the middle somewhere just to avoid what is still an avoidable disaster. We can fight about the logistics and particulars another day. But the truth is, there are some very simple incentive based applications which will stop the bleeding and get our country headed back in the right direction. Ironically, most of our representatives know and understand what these applications look like because they have been tried and have worked in the past.

The whole world is watching and waiting to see which way America goes and I have to tell you, one misstep in this ever-growing economic minefield, and this chalice of success through freedom may not pass to the next generation.

Memorial Day 2012…

When I hear pandering politicians speak about the “sacrifices” of our military I’m always a little skeptical. I look at their records and in many cases those records don’t add up to the placating of the moment. Such is the case every Memorial Day. However I will leave that out there for now and instead take the high road today. I want to focus on what is important, the men and women of The United States Military and their families who have so selflessly put the needs of a nation and her posterity ahead of their own. Sadly, many have engaged in the struggle only to return in a flag draped coffin.

John 15:13

King James Version (KJV)

13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

I look to the photographs of the young ones who stand graveside at events that are sure to weaken the sturdiest of knees and dampen the driest of eyes. For you know, despite their age and the difficulty of conveying such adult matters to a child, that lost parent had explained to them the nature of the business and what might be expected. It is assumed therefore, that incredible feeling of sadness and loss will somehow always have a different meaning for that child. Sacrifice and honor are words they will hear and utter time and again when they consider that very special person in their lives.

Still, I am left with a nagging feeling when I see one of those pictures. I guess it’s because I interact and with so many people on so many levels every day. I wonder if (some) Americans will ever truly understand what “ultimate sacrifice” means or what it represents to all of us. Sadly, that understanding can only come by way of education, historical education. Not the ideological kind that highlights only America’s faults and failings, but rather that which recognizes the indisputable influence of a young nation having changed the world for the better and given up so much of her own blood to do so. And also the kind of historical perspective that acknowledges first and foremost how those lost souls saw their participation as part of the greater good and not a means to keep a tyrannical government from executing their families back home. These are things political leaders and teachers in our schools should be putting in context for young people every time they have an opportunity, reminding them of the blessing that is their country. Regrettably, thankfulness and appreciation for the efforts of those who have gone to guarantee that blessing, have been replaced by learned selfishness and entitlement rooted in some perceived and convoluted “fairness doctrine”.

Personally, I look at every Memorial Day and think of some of my friends who have made that “sacrifice” and I remember their motives. I think of my late father and of my nephew who understood freedom and what might be necessary to preserve it, and they went anyway. And then I listen to those fools trying to re-write that which does not suit their ideological frame-work, as well as the next generation whom they’ve robbed of the truth and wisdom needed to properly defend freedom, and I wonder if the soldier under that flag has died for nothing.

Reconciliation comes when I realize they died for an ideal and a principle. Ironically, it’s not necessarily the country they were defending, but rather what it represents to the rest of the world. So I say to that child who stands graveside in the face of unimaginable sorrow and loss, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are in my thoughts and prayers and those of my family every day of our lives. Your dad or mom died defending the greatest gift ever bestowed upon human kind by a loving God, freedom. May that thought give you some measure of comfort all of your days…

Please take a knee today and think about where you live. Put aside your political persuasion for just a moment and remember that for all of its little idiosyncrasies, the United States of America is and remains the greatest arrangement for mankind under God. You are limited only by what is truly in your heart. Do not begrudge your fellow citizens or take your freedom for granted and damn it, never forget those who go in your stead to defend it.

God bless the United States Military service people and their families on this Memorial Day, and every day!
