Arlington, Va.
George Washington must find his way back into the spotlight.
Our nation’s first and greatest president made headlines earlier this year when
members of the House and Senate evoked his “Rules of Civility” in their calls
for more respect and less contempt in political discourse. Just a few days ago,
the Pulitzer Prize Board also boosted our foremost founding father’s profile by
bestowing one of literature’s highest honors on author Ron Chernow for his
compelling biography, “Washington: A Life.” Here at Washington’s Mount Vernon
estate, we began a new chapter in our efforts to safeguard his legacy on April
14 as we broke ground on the Fred W. Smith National Library for the Study of
George Washington.
These developments couldn’t come at a more critical time. In
today’s uncertain world, mired in bipartisan bickering and global unrest, we
need Washington’s steadying influence more than ever. Nevertheless, our
fast-paced, future-focused society has nudged him off the stage.
Two hundred years ago, Washington’s example was known to
Americans in the largest cities and smallest villages. His bravery, leadership,
and impeccable character encouraged a boldness of spirit that the world has
seldom seen since. His travels throughout the new nation drew throngs of people
eager for a glimpse of him. His birthday was a major celebration, and many
homes displayed his image.
Today, however, things are different. A national de-emphasis
on traditional history instruction in the nation’s schools and a resulting lack
of “history literacy” among the general public, have meant that the influence
of Washington’s reassuring hand and strong moral character are barely felt in
modern-day America. The teaching of history and its lessons learned —
especially that of our nation’s founding era — continues to descend on the list
of education priorities, whether in the local kindergarten or the ivy-covered
university. Popular culture hasn’t given our children a chance to get to know
their first president beyond his stately image on the dollar bill. There’s
never been a real full-length theatrical movie about George Washington. There’s
no computer game that reflects his courage under fire and his remarkable
instinct to survive and prosper against all odds.
What is virtually ignored in schools and popular culture
will ultimately be reflected in society at large; so this decline in
Washington’s visibility and relevance in our lives should not be surprising.
What is surprising is the lack of concern among most Americans, even those who
have followed in Washington’s footsteps in military or government service.
Why does it really matter? Because Washington’s life still
reflects the epitome of American leadership and character. He should be
relevant to each new generation because the most prominent character traits
demonstrated by Washington — strong moral values, undaunted courage, solid and
consistent judgment, unabashed patriotism, and his complete commitment to what
is best for his country — never go out of style. His actions defined civility
during an uncivil period, as he showed how one person’s example and deeds can
make an enormous difference. Washington was our first national hero, and his
leadership was once our nation’s greatest resource. His personal traits should
be studied, celebrated, and emulated as timeless hallmarks of conduct. He must
find his way back into the spotlight.
This spring, I invite you to contemplate his life, legacy
and its unquestionable continuing relevance at Slater Mill, 67 Roosevelt Ave.,
Pawtucket, as it plays host to a panel exhibition, “The Many Faces of George
Washington,” on view April 25 through May 27. Produced by Mount Vernon in
partnership with the Guilder Lehrman Institute of American History, and
supported by the F.M. Kirby Foundation, the exhibition paints a multi-faceted
portrait of Washington, depicting him as a military leader, president, husband
and entrepreneur who guided a fledgling country through uncertain times with
vision, integrity, and compassion. Slater Mill is a fitting venue for this
exhibition; Washington himself passed by the site, using the bridge at the
Pawtucket falls, with his continental troops as he marched with Jean-Baptiste
de Rochambeau and his French troops from Newport to Coventry in 1781.
It’s our sincere hope that the business and community
leaders, teachers and students, members of the military and families throughout
the state who visit the exhibition, or who travel to Mount Vernon, will find
inspiration in our first president’s strong, steadfast example. We also hope
that you will consider supporting the efforts of the Mount Vernon Ladies’
Association to preserve and protect his legacy — his words, his deeds, his
leadership, his character — by establishing a national library in his honor.
Bringing George Washington back into the spotlight is
unimaginably important to the future of America. If George Washington fades
from our memory, will we really still be the America we know and love?

Health Care, Healthcare
Let me be even clearer…
As predicted and as I have been telling you, the latest
research is showing at least 30% of employers will cease health coverage to
their work forces with the implementation of the remaining “Obamacare”
provisions. That number climbs to fully 50% among those companies which have
done their homework on the new law. This from a study by McKinsey Quarterly.
Truth be told, if you take the time to read the healthcare
law it is easy to see why corporate financial execs are thinking along these
lines. It makes perfect sense from a bottom line perspective. With staggering
penalties in lieu of offering insurance to employees as well as already
skyrocketing costs, many will simply throw up their hands and ship folks over
to the national plan. (Exactly what the Obama bunch wants.) Consequently, the
POTUS was accurate about one thing, and that is that you will certainly be able
to keep your own insurance. Well, that is right up until “Obamacare” has been
fully implemented and your coverage gets dropped, at which point you are forced
under penalty into the government system whereby all of your choices will then
be made for you. Additionally, we are now hearing about significant
advancements in genetic application cancer treatments which, like many of these
break-throughs are extraordinarily costly and would be rationed away and
affordable only to the richest among us under the Obama law. The very things
that would normally incentivize those in the medical fields to educate,
discover and pursue these achievements would slowly but surely dry up with
time, much like the entire private healthcare industry…
So you see, this Administrations attempt to apply a
“fairness doctrine” of sorts to healthcare in America was never anything more
than a prelude to “single payer” and will result in anything but fair and
affordable health care for all. In reality, it will vastly and quickly overload
an already overloaded system and drive the cost beyond what our weakened
economy can handle. The price of this Obama Presidency continues to approach
critical mass!

Glaring hypocrisy and double standards are nothing new in
Washington. But it’s now going beyond the realm of “that’s just politics”. For
years the Libs have ridden the social safety wave when it comes to personal
scandals while Republicans have been drummed right out of office on very often
lesser issues. Heck, look at the late Ted Kennedy. The man was the poster child
for bad behavior (to borrow a line from his sorely missed nephew Jack Jr.), yet
remained in office for more than 40 years. Now I know that Republicans can be
their own worst enemies when they espouse a certain ethical and/or moral
compass and then fall flat on their faces, and I know that President Clinton’s
time is office sort of re-shaped our perceptions of our (Democrat) elected
officials, but isn’t it about time we change this dynamic and begin to expect
just a little more from (all) those we send to represent our interests in
Washington.
One would assume the “politics of personal destruction”
during any campaign would vet out some of these issues. Not necessarily. And
I’m certainly not suggesting that I approve of the tactics on either side in
that regard. What I am saying, is that when a guy like Weiner, who so adamantly
admonishes the opposition and stands so firmly on what he champions as the
“high ground” on issues of the day gets caught with his “drawers” down, he
should be held to an equal standard and not given a pass based on his ideology
by the main stream press. Moreover, if there may be legal and/or criminal
consequences to his actions then he should certainly step aside in the best
interest of his constituency. This won’t happen however, at least not in the
short term, but it has certainly drawn attention to the fact that we have been
far too accepting and tolerant of this sort of behavior and subsequent
hypocrisy. Now this may very well have something to do with “We the People”
feeling a little insecure in our own skins, but that speaks to the much larger
and more complicated societal and social picture that we always seem to be running
from.
For the purposes of this discussion today, I am frustrated
and saddened that once again we are distracted from the crucial topics that
concern our national future, while the cable news network’s race to see which

Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary
Force! You are about to embark upon a great crusade, toward which we have
striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and
prayers of liberty loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our
brave Allies and brothers in arms on other fronts, you will bring about the destruction
of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed
peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world. Your task will
not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle
hardened, he will fight savagely. But this is the year 1944! Much has happened
since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the
Germans great defeats, in open battle, man to man. Our air offensive has
seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on
the ground. Our home fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in
weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of
trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are
marching together to victory! I have full confidence in your courage, devotion
to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory!
Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty
God upon this great and noble undertaking.

Sharia Law
Eight lashes for an extramarital kiss…?
It is hard to imagine such things in the 21st century. One
has to accept however, that the Middle East today, in fact more so resembles
the tyrannical times and governments of the early 20 th century. As we watch
the protests continue unabated there, it is even harder to know who actually
seeks freedom and who seeks the oppression and barbarism of Sharia law.
Forthrightly, I am no expert. So when I read of doctors in Bahrain being
prosecuted for treating protesters wounded in the unrest there, I am
understandably confused.
Ultimately, we have to look at this through the lens of our
own society when it comes to what we perceive to be the responsibility of a
physician, or do we? One can go back to the days of Greek mythology to find the
Hippocratic application, though it has been manipulated over the centuries to
suit many different cultures. Still, it is almost universally understood that a
doctor must never deny care to the sick and injured.
Now I am not naïve, and I understand there are a number of
political factors we must apply to this story in that one entity seeks to
overthrow another for control of a nation. And then there is the convoluted and
murderous relationship between the Shiite opposition and the Sunni leadership
which has played out all over the Middle East for generations. My point in all
of this is that when you step back and observe all that is going on in a
supposedly “modern” world, it is painfully obvious that we have not come as far
as we would like to believe. When human beings in positions of power and
authority may prosecute and condemn, under the punishment of death, those who
would medically treat the injured and dying, we must question our tolerances
and acceptance of such a culture. Moreover, how do we reconcile our
international relationships (“military” and the like) with such a
country?
I think that it is high time The United States begin to
question all of her relationships with nations who treat their people in ways
that fly in the face of everything we have ever championed. Make no mistake, to
ignore these issues and the history they resemble, or to placate in place of
espousing and supporting our principles and ideals, is to set the stage for
inevitable and costly future conflict as well as the genocide that always
precedes it. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/06/06/group-chides-clinton-for-public-silence-on-saudi-woman-jailed-for-driving/?test=latestnews

The Palin factor…

Sarah Palin
Let me just say for the record I am very pleased Chris
Wallace is with Fox News. He is credible and a capable news professional.
Having said this, he may not escape my critique of the media collective. He was
recently asked about his “Fox Sunday” interview with Sarah Palin and
I picked up on a couple of things he said which just seem part of the overall
“new media” presentation within the 24 hour cycle. In his response to a question
concerning whether or not Palin would run for President, and what if anything
her recent bus tour was all about, Wallace stated he “wasn’t sure if she
herself new what the bus tour was all about”, and that though he was still
unsure of her motivations, he referred to her as “usually an entertaining
interview”. Now with all due respect to Wallace’s credentials, I do think a
response like that reflects my long held belief that elitist news personalities
are nothing more than frustrated politicians who are un-electable. (No offence
Chris)… To his credit, Wallace did go on to say that Palin seemed on message
like never before and gave all the appearances of a formidable albeit
“potential” candidate.
Anyway, there was much made of the fact that Palin seemed to
upstage Mitt Romney this past weekend by appearing in New Hampshire at the same
time he was there announcing his candidacy. Now whether you believe this was
intentional or not, it is telling for another reason and that is we on the
right must get past this packaged and/or “candidacy by birthright” thing and
listen to the message. I have been getting a lot of email from folks lately
asking me to defend my support for Palin and I have hesitated because it
usually turns into a counterproductive mudslinging thing. Well now with the
election season officially underway, I will “go there”…
Firstly, let’s get the obvious and frankly sexist stuff off
the table post haste. From the lips of
this all American and red blooded 40 something, she’s hot! Ok, I said it. Now
moving right along, one of our (We the People) biggest issues today is
electability. Many a good idea and principled approach has been lost to the
ages because of this conundrum. As I posted recently, look at the 08 election.
A clearly unqualified Chicago community organizer shot past the field with 180
days as a Senator, an overly simplistic message and the ability to read the
heck out of a teleprompter. Go figure… I will admit that Palin was out of her
league as well when tapped by the McCain camp as a running mate for the
Senator, but she at least had hands on experience in an executive’s chair. What
Palin lacked in international prowess, she more than made up for in character
and genuineness. From then until now, it is obvious to me that she has spent a
great deal of time calculating, learning, and re-calibrating her message to
better articulate what she believes about herself, and the country. In contrast
it has become obvious that the current POTUS was definitely “overrated” shall
we say, and has become almost Biden like in some of his gaffs. So in all
fairness to Sarah Palin, she was at least as qualified and most likely more so
than Mr. Obama, at least from an administrative standpoint, to be President.
You see, we all too often let ourselves be manipulated by a media with an
agenda and then willingly or unwillingly allow that rhetoric to affect our
judgment. The relentless attacks on Sarah Palin are the stuff of political
legend and have done more to solidify the main stream media as bias than I
think anyone or anything in recent memory. I would site the roiling and
sometimes obscene Chris Matthews as an example of a “radical media type” with a
motivation other than fairly and accurately portraying any given political
event or situation. We should understand this for what it is and be cognizant
of it as we form our opinions about candidates though, and not allow it to play
a role outside of identifying particular ideologies and methodologies.
This goes for the right as well as they too have
consistently bent over backwards at times to pigeon hole the field on the basis
of electability. I would also be remiss if I left out how the money trail often
begins and ends with electability when it comes to the Republican National
Committee.
Mitt Romney represents everything a packaged candidate could
be, shallow, flip flopping on issues and with a questionable record as a
Governor. He is however, handsome, rich and has done this before. Subsequently,
he will coax and massage the media and donors with the notion that he and he
alone can win in November 2012. Sadly, many will abandon the fact that Palin
more clearly represents what they believe, buy into the electability theory and
vote for Romney. The same may go for the rest of the field. For my part, I
appreciated Palin from the beginning. I know her heart is in the right place,
and that she possesses the fundamental qualifications to be the Chief Executive
for our nation. Her “American passion” is plain and her judgment would be
America first. The rest has been a work in progress and she has made great
strides. I did catch a bit of the Wallace interview and she was in fact “on
message” , articulating more clearly than Barack Obama has in the last year,
the right direction for our country.
I feel strongly about Palin as a candidate, but I am still
watching and learning about her, and frankly the rest of the field as well.
With so many twists and turns yet to play out, it is far too early to endorse
anyone. I will not however, have my vote hijacked by the media, and I am committed
to supporting the candidate who I feel best represents my views and will secure
our nation for my son’s future. This my friends is not an election whereby we
may settle for the candidate the pundits are telling us has the best chance of
winning, but rather this election must be about recapturing our culture and
bringing our country back from the brink of economic and ideological
Armageddon. This will be no easy task, and is certainly no job for the same old
mediocre politician spouting the same old tried and failed ideas.
Big picture: If we refuse to compromise, or be coached in
our belief system taught to us by our parents and grandparents and paid for in
the blood of every American soldier ever lost in battle, then we may yet have a
chance…

Golf President Obama Joh Boehner
The President of the United States continues to ask for
patience as the economy sags under the pressure of extreme debt and a lack of
real and “meaningful” stimulus in the form of small business and individual tax
incentives. (Not just a doctored up status quo and lip service). It is either
an unexplainable disconnect or something more sinister that drives this man. Or
maybe it just shows how unprepared and unqualified the Obama Administration
truly was/is in the face of so challenging a national dilemma. Well the good
news is, the POTUS is gonna take in yet “another” round of golf, this time
inviting Speaker Boehner along for the fun. Now there’s an idea, people are
struggling to find work, pay their mortgages and put gas in their cars, and
these two will be yuckin’ it up on the links. I mean does anybody care that we
are goin’ down by the bow in a big way?
Now listen, I know that what these folks do can be stressful
to say the least, and one certainly needs a release now an then. But for
goodness sake, alarms are sounding from every corner of our economic landscape
and our overall national condition is unstable to put it mildly. If I were
advising these guys, I would remind them that timing is everything when you are

Unemployment
I’m not going to act like I didn’t see this coming. And you
all know I’ve been squawking about the fact that the “separation” rate, or
(firing) of workers by large corporations, combined with an anemic “54,000”
jobs created last report spells huge problems for our country. I’m sorry Mr.
President, but when you throw in new persons entering the job market
(graduating college students, illegals and teenagers), that number along with
American private industry confidence is officially “0”. Consequently, it should
now be obvious, even to those of blind Obama faith, that your plan is a
complete and total failure and was a monumental waste of time and taxpayer
money. 9.1% unemployment does not equal recovery of any sort Sir, but rather it
smells of a double dip recession this nation can ill afford carrying over $14
trillion dollars in debt.
Now the markets around the world will certainly reflect this
challenging economic news this morning, but the bigger picture remains why we
continue down this road. Reversing course is always difficult but our current
direction is clearly the wrong one. Why then does our President press onward
with an economic plan that has been such a disaster for America? The news will
not get better Mr. Obama. We would have been better off sitting on our hands
for 2 years and letting the economy fix itself to a degree. Instead, and for
all your claims of keeping “us” from going over the proverbial cliff, it
appears we are now clawing at the ledge anyway, and with $6 Trillion dollars in
additional debt tied to our ankles like an anvil in one of those “Road Runner”

United States in decline
Ok, the news is just “bustin” today. It looks like some
improperly supervised and historically challenged “tots” in an Arkansas middle
school think GW and Dick Cheney are just about as bad as Hitler, (fish food
Bin-Laden) and Chuck Manson. Well at least that’s what was written in their
school yearbook. What can you say about something like this? School officials
are looking into what they have deemed an oversight, but you know some
Progressive slob “educator” had a hand in it. Just another sign of how far our
society is declining as the greatest generation passes and the revisionists
gain a foothold.
As a side note to the above little tid-bit, a Texas Judge
has ruled that High School Grads can’t use religious references in their
graduation speeches. It seems cultural diversity and consideration are
universally afforded except when it comes to our own (culture). All things
considered, including our slowly but surely fading economic status and
international standing, if we allow what has defined us from the days of our
forefathers to be “ruled” away by those who mean to break us from within, all
is lost anyway.
Nonetheless, did you all catch “Moody’s” smack down today.
Simply put, our nations AAA credit status will be called under review if an
agreement is not reached soon concerning raising the ceiling on our already
enormous national debt. Now I have argued economics on a fairly regular basis
with those who are just not in touch with reality, but this is serious business
people! This grand experiment set upon in 2008 is about to come full circle and
it has failed in every way possible. This “social justice” President and the
111th Congress have so damaged our economic prospects through a combination of
entitlement and “stimulus” spending, that a double dip recession is almost a
foregone conclusion. More importantly, without the most dramatic and sweeping
reforms ever in the economic history of this country being immediately
implemented, whichever President sits in January of 2013 will simply be unable
to right this sinking ship.

So the pundits are saying the POTUS is due for a major
scandal. I guess the longest a President has gone without one is 34 months, I
find that ironic because this Administrations entire time in office has been
one big scandal… Let’s face it, with the exception of carrying out 43’s order
to cap Bin-Laden, what have we gotten for that $400,000.00 a year paycheck?
We have an economy that has sputtered and will now crumble
under the weight of the crushing debt this President has sanctioned a means to
address a recession. We have an overall foreign policy that resembles a dog
chasing its tail as we alienate our friends and embolden our enemies. And the
empowered Socialists here at home are changing American tradition and culture

So when I see the President of The United States taking in a

Memorial Day 2011
“There is something to be said for a person who will go in
harm’s way on another’s behalf for an ideal they know to be true and just” -
Patriot64
I tweeted this yesterday and it sums up my thoughts on
Memorial Day. Remembering is the theme to be sure, but why? Who are these brave
souls and why do they do what they do? From the very beginning of the United
States, it has been about breaking the bonds of human inadequacy, while
aspiring to and recognizing something greater than self. That ideal has carried
us through many a difficult and desperate time. From the trials of Valley Forge
to the carnage of Antietam, and from the horrors of the World Wars through the
growing pains of the 1960’s, it has been that underlying and foundational
belief that freedom and the individual human spirit will always trump “social
engineering” that has guided us.
Sadly, Gods world includes tyrants and murderers who choose to
live out of the light and make their bones on the backs of those would not
think for themselves. For this reason we have been forced to the fight to
defend what is right, true and just many times, and the blood of our family and
friends has been spilled in great quantity to make that case. What sets us
apart from the rest however, is that we know in our hearts, through all the
pain of separation and loss, that those efforts were and remain worthy of our
courage and sacrifice.
You see, those who put on the uniform of the United States
Military live with the notion that injury and even death might befall them in
the course of their duty and they accept this without hesitation every day, an
all-volunteer service that signs on not just to defend a nation but what it
stands for. So as I take my leave of the blogosphere for a few days to remember
my family and friends who have worn the uniform and gone before me, I pray that
America rekindle its love affair with that great ideal, and with all the ideals
that have made “We the People” unique and exceptional to friend and foe alike.
God bless all who serve, and God bless all of you on this Memorial Day.
Special thoughts and prayers to the still many who sit at
home watching and waiting on their loved ones who willingly carry this awesome
responsibility today…

Patriot Act
The debate and last minute signature by the POTUS extending
certain provisions of the “Patriot Act” has been kind of on the back burner
politically for a while. Personally, I have mixed emotions about the whole
affair. On the one hand there was certainly a need immediately following the
terror attacks of 2001 to get a handle on the “chatter” going back and forth
between the cowardly murderers. To not utilize the best military and civilian
crime fighting tools at our disposal in order to protect innocent life would
have been negligent at best. However there has been much debate since, with
reasonable and Constitutional concerns having been raised. We must never ignore
the basic ideals that govern our Republic under law, and must also be vigilant
caretakers of our God given and Constitutional freedom. At this stage though, I
still believe those who are sworn to protect us need the tools to do so and
therefore I feel the extension of the key surveillance provisions of the act
was a good thing, especially considering recent events in Pakistan.
Now I must admit, I did find entertainment value listening
to some of the debate. I can’t help it, but I want to jump through the
television when I hear politicians like (WH) Harry Reid espousing anything
related to securing our national interests against the terrorist threat. This
from the man who claimed the “war” was lost shortly before the immensely
successful “surge” in Iraq. Frankly, I was amazed at all the Libs who came out
in support of this extension. You would have thought there had been an
awakening of some sort that we all missed. Ultimately I suppose, you don’t want
to look soft on terror when we just popped the head cheese over in “Pakeestan”,
as the POTUS likes to call it…

You may call Laura Ingraham a lot of things politically, but
“slut” isn’t one of them. This is a woman with deep political and religious
beliefs that define her as a human being. She has worked tirelessly to promote
that which she feels will strengthen our nation and its people, and made a name
for herself in the often tumultuous world of “talk show” media. She
has ridden waves of success, survived breast cancer and negotiated personal
triumphs and emotional pitfalls with a conscious dignity that is something to
emulate.
So having listened to Mr. Shultz’s comments and subsequent
apology, about the only thing I can say positive is that he did actually
apologize. With that said however, I am still inclined to dismiss the crew over
at MSNBC as nothing but a bunch of hypocritical buffoons who should use a
little more make up. While I do my best to be civil most of the time, I am not
bound by the same decorum boundaries as Ms. Ingraham. As a result I would ask
all of the hyper Left wing-nuts over at this failing and poor excuse for a news

of the truth jackasses, Laura Ingraham is way out of your league… Enough

Medicare
Cross my heart…
Democrat Kathy Hochul defeated Republican Jane Corwin and
third party challenger Jack Davis in New York’s 26th congressional district
today setting the stage for what I spoke of in yesterday’s post. It appears, at
least in that district, that the Dems have succeeded in their mission to dupe
the voters into supporting almost certain and catastrophic failure of the very
program they are so scared of losing, Medicare. There may have been some
mitigating factors with Rep. Christopher Lee vacating the seat under
questionable circumstances. However, it is painfully obvious that demagoguery
and “Mediscare” were the real reasons. The battle for 2012 will apparently be
fought not for the good of the people, but for the soul of the country. What
country will emerge on the other side is the question. As I analyze this
conundrum, I must tell you it is alarming that 48% of voters in the NY race
were so convinced and so corralled by the lies of the Left, they actually voted
for the destruction of Medicare.
As I begin my own campaign of truth, talking to people about
this and other pivotal issues sure to be hot button topics this election cycle,
I am amazed and confused at how little many of those who adamantly oppose the
“Ryan Budget” really know. Now I’m not demeaning these folks, but there are
some who still believe their payments into the Social Security and Medicare
systems actually cover the cost of benefits. Really?? With this as the standard
thought process out there these days, it is difficult to know where to begin.
Do I explain the myriad of variables, not the least of which are those who
begin collecting before retirement age for whatever the reason, or those of
varying wage earnings and configurations vs. their respective benefits, or
maybe the millions in fraudulent payouts by Medicare every year? It is truly
mind boggling when you consider the numbers and then try and reconcile them to
an individual hyped up on the fact that Harry Reid and Chris Matthews just told
them the Republicans are insisting they surrender their grandchildren as
collateral for future benefits.
How do you fight a battle such as this? How do we endure as
a nation when ideology and political power trump reason and fact? One can
simply and only hope that truth will emerge in the minds of the electorate and
reality is not lost on this critical and consequential debate.

Scott Brown Medicare
When Scott Brown of Massachusetts did the unthinkable and
won Ted Kennedy’s old Senate seat, I must admit I was not only stunned, but
hopeful for the future. With his recent decision not to support the “Ryan
Budget” and subsequent explanation, he has lost my support for good. This post
will not however address Brown’s middle of the road/spineless politics, but
rather the blatant lie that is “Medicare” and how it will most certainly go
bankrupt far sooner than expected.
“Let me be clear”. If any Libs reading this aren’t going to
do the simple math or worse yet continue to lie directly to “We the People”,
then frankly you should be tried for treason. How anyone (Rep. Chris Van
Hollen, D-Md) who claims to love this country can look at these numbers and
then immediately shoot the messenger is staggering in its arrogance and
negligence. Especially considering the Dems have kicked this can down the road
to the tune of 753 days of budgetary inaction. While Paul Ryan’s plan will not
even affect folks 55 or older, failure to act on the current and progressing
path to insolvency will result in assured collapse. Way back in 2008 Medicare’s
overseers reviewed the program and found the unfunded liability portion to be
approximately $75 Trillion with a capital T. This is the amount of money the
program needs but does not have to fulfill its obligations and promises! To put
this number in context, that’s almost 5 times more than the unfunded portion
for Social Security. OMG! Does this scare you? It should! Even more
frightening, the POTUS’s “health care” plan would give the government the power
to deny care to seniors (right now) by channeling the decision making process
to handpicked and unelected officials who could then apply price controls and
rationing almost immediately to deal with cost overruns. Is this how this
Administration is planning to deal with the looming Medicare shortfalls? Is
this the Left’s plan for our seniors? At its current pace, not only will
Medicare cease to function, but all current participants would be left
unprotected, and those who otherwise would have thought they’d be receiving
benefits based on “promises made” in the longer term (UNDER 55) can just forget
that! This is simple stuff people and doesn’t require a degree in economics or
accounting!
Look, don’t listen to me, don’t watch Fox News, I don’t
care. I’m tired of hearing that simple BS with no offers of an alternative but
to again “shoot the messenger”. Just get off your butts and do the math, find
the websites, here’s one.
http://www.naturalnews.com/032452_Medicare_bankruptcy.html For goodness sake, NPR was even screaming
this back in 2004, albeit for different reason.
Truth: The feel good entitlement systems we have allowed our
crooked politicians to manipulate over generations are badly broken and on the
verge of collapse. The bills are now due in full. Payment and remedies will be
difficult. Are you willing to admit this, because if you’re not the
consequences will be painful for sure.
Side note: The shameless and disgraceful tactics of those on
the Progressive Left are nothing but part of the problem. I implore you to get
the facts. If you are a senior, do not be lied to. If you know a senior, help
them to understand these pathetic and dangerous attempts to secure their vote,
and do not allow them to be pawns in a game that is destined to spell disaster
for them in their lifetime if these insolvency issues are not rectified.
Not only inaccurate, but pathetic…

Election Politics
I’m with Rove on this one. I think we are about to witness
the most negative and money oriented Presidential Campaign in American history.
The Democrats will engage in what is most comfortable for them, that being the
“politics of personal destruction”, and always in place of ideas and solutions.
Truth be told, this is their only hope. On paper, the numbers clearly show the
damage done by this bunch of Bush League Chicago hacks. As you can also see, I
plan to respond in kind. It is that important this time around.
For far too long the Libs have been given a pass on this
stuff while simultaneously using that media free pass too mercilessly attack
the opposition. So when I heard the Obama billion dollar machine was already
“digging up the dirt” on Gov. Christie, it told me a couple of things. Firstly,
the Left is absolutely petrified of this guy, who has repeatedly stated he’s
content to solve the many problems of New Jersey at this time. And second, they
will not be caught off guard if he should change his mind.
Despite recent poll numbers that suggest this President has
some resiliency among Independents (10%), the reality is, he is the most
vulnerable political failure in the history of the office, leaving the
Republicans only to front an inspirational and winning candidate. Chris
Christie represents that threat to the Democratic machine and they will stop at
nothing short of political Armageddon to keep him on the sidelines.
So as I have said and will say “AGAIN”, this election is the
most consequential in modern American history, and will require “We the People”
to reach deep into our Patriotic souls so we may negotiate the slew of
negativity to the undeniable truth and vote for the future of our children. Do
not be fooled again… Remember, its all about our kids…

Endeavour
There was a lot of attention
focused on this latest shuttle flight and with good reason. Gabrielle Giffords
continues her miraculous recovery and was able to witness her husband Mark
Kelly pilot Endeavour into orbit for the last time. I have an additional albeit
less positive take on the flight however. As I watched that absolutely amazing
marvel of American technology and engineering rocket skyward, I was sad to know
that probably because of our current fiscal nightmare, I was witnessing the era
of “America out front” coming to an end but for one more flight. The (Space
Shuttle) and any possible replacement program have been scrapped with the very
future of NASA now in question. I guess what I’m getting at here is, these are
the things that we should be able to afford. These are the things that we
should be able to show off as the bonuses of our system of government and way
of life.
Unfortunately today, debating, legislating and eventually
applying expenditures of our federal system has become so convoluted and
corrupt that not only have we buried our grandchildren under a mountain of
unsustainable and in many cases fraudulent debt, but now we must mothball one
of the most symbolic achievements in human history, and one that has come to
represent at least in some way, our standing in this world. I’m sorry, but this
is just sad…

Israel
“Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it
must remain undivided,”
Senator Barack Obama
My “Christian position” was born of a couple of
things. Firstly would be my wife inviting me to her Pentecostal place of
worship to meet her Pastor whom I have come to appreciate immensely for helping
me reconcile my Catholic upbringing with Bible scripture. (That process
continues.) Second would be my ongoing and consistently frustrating search for
the reasons behind what I see as a global transformation taking place. Having
just about exhausted the painfully obvious politics of the matter, I have begun
to look in other places for answers. Ever the pragmatist, I continue to
evaluate what I find daily but remain conflicted.
With this thought process as a backdrop, I listened intently
to the POTUS today and realized I am convinced about one thing internationally,
and that is that this President is no friend to our one true ally in the Middle
East. Against a media shower of bullets and rage, Mr. Obama made some dangerous
assumptions this afternoon. As we look at events in Syria while trying to make
sense of the many voices coming from the streets of the Middle East overall,
our fearless leader contends that they are “all” the voices of freedom and have
miraculously shed the yoke of Sharia extremism. Really? He even touted the
benefits of a free market economy and the entrepreneurial spirit in the region
while simultaneously strangling it here at home. Go figure… He spoke of the
Israeli leadership with glowing affection declaring that our ties were
“unshakable”, but in the same breath called them liars. The President even had
the idealistic hutzpa to call for the Israeli borders to return to pre-1967
markers. You see now why I am looking at “all” the evidence as I draw my
conclusions.
Surrounded by nations who espouse her destruction and
eradication from planet earth, the tiny nation of Israel would be forced to
defend an 8 mile wide swath of land with no access to the highlands of the
Golan. Outrageous! Adding insult to injury, the “United” Nations will vote in
September on whether or not to “mandate” a state of “Palestine?
Now I’m no prophet, and certainly no biblical scholar, but it is getting harder
and harder to dismiss this rapid fire succession of events that appear to have
been foretold.
I am however a study of history and I understand with great
clarity that to ignore it will be the ruination of mankind. This is not a gift,
but rather the result of simple attention and self education. The people of
pre-war Germany in the 1930’s cast a blind eye to hatred and bigotry, and in
many ways so did some political leaders in The United States. The price for
looking the other way when our fellow man was being slaughtered was genocide on
scale that shook the very core of humanity. Look around people. When we hear
the Farrakhan’s right here in our own country spewing their vile and targeted
hatred, it is easy to wonder if “We the People” are asleep at the wheel or if
we can even tell right from wrong anymore when we look abroad. So don’t sit
there and tell me that we are not seeing history repeat itself right before our
very eyes. This is not about one race or religion, this is about humanity and
an appreciation for all of its colors and culture. It simply cannot be that the
way to that understanding is through rape and the public beheading of those
with whom you do not agree. To ignore this reality Mr. President, is to be
ignorant and may very well sow the seeds of a “third world” war.
No nation is perfect, including our own. But in the end, it
is about the values and ideals we aspire too that bind us against the evil we
know to be real. Israel is our friend, and because they are a nation that
shares our core belief system we must not fail them as the enemies of freedom
gather against her. We can debate a “two state solution” until it snows in
Gaza, but to give away the sovereignty of a friend, or to even suggest such a
thing, is the mark of an inexperienced, or at the very least misguided
President of the United States.
As a side note, and something that contributes to my
cynicism at times like these, recent polls show a majority of Americans see our
great nation in decline, but feel as though this President will be re-elected
regardless. How far are we from the edge when this attitude permeates the electorate?
How much of our unalienable rights and control over those who lead us have we
relinquished? Wake up America, and quickly… Big picture!!

Philadelphia the City of Brotherly Love
Mark Fiorino is a 25 year old IT
Worker living in Philadelphia. After learning that several of his friends had
been mugged, he elected to carry a firearm in plain view under Philadelphia
Police Department Directive # 137, and with the appropriate license.
Unfortunately, when he decided to walk to the local auto parts store he didn’t
count on being mugged by the police. Read the attached link so you may
understand what I’m talking about when I reference our freedoms and what “human
factors” come into play when we allow those freedoms to be diluted and/or
diminished. The exchange begins when Fiorino is approached by a police officer
with his gun out stating “Yo, junior, what are you doing?” At that very point,
the professional police officer thing goes right out the window and is replaced
by something else with a badge. And this guy was a Sergeant/Supervisor no less…
Thankfully, Mr. Fiorino had the sense to record the audio and later place it on
“youtube”. He was subsequently charged with reckless endangerment for resisting
a “police officer” and taken into custody at his work by no less than 5 police
officers?

Ironically, Philadelphia was one of America’s early capitals
and the scene of many a revolutionary function that lead to our free Republic.
Is this how folks are treated in the “City of Brotherly Love”?
I should tell you that having worn a few uniforms in my
time, I’m embarrassed by the discussions and questions I must field regarding
these types of issues. With that said however, we must all understand the vast
majority of law enforcement officers are getting it done every day, and getting
it done right! I know them and have written about their heroic efforts many
times gentleman, so save your excuses. Mr. Fiorino should have complied with
the Sergeant’s initial directive, but the manner in which this incident was
initiated by police, the lack of knowledge concerning the “their own internal
directive”, and the ensuing profanity laced tirade unleashed by the officers
responding as back up, was nothing short of shameful, unprofessional and
un-American.
Police directive sent to all districts regarding open carry
in Philadelphia, PA Sept 22, 2010
GENERAL: 1272 09/22/10 12:53:20
TO : ALL COMMANDING OFFICERS / DEPARTMENT HEADS
SUBJECT : FIREARM OPEN CARRY LAW IN PHILADELPHIA
1. DIRECTIVE 137, ENTITLED “FIREARMS” IS BEING UPDATED
CONCERNING THE PENNSYLVANIA OPEN CARRY LAWS
REGARDING THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA. THIS TELETYPE
REFLECTS THE NEW POLICY AS IT WILL APPEAR IN THE
DIRECTIVE.
2. ALL OFFICERS SHOULD BE AWARE THAT PENNSYLVANIA IS
CONSIDERED AN “OPEN CARRY STATE” WITH THE EXCEPTION OF
PHILADELPHIA. IT IS IMPORTANT TO DEFINE A FEW TERMS USED,
WHICH ARE AS FOLLOWS:
“OPEN CARRY” REFERS TO THE ACT OF OPENLY AND VISIBLY
CARRYING A FIREARM ON ONE’S PERSON.
“OPEN CARRY STATE” REFERS TO A STATE THAT ALLOWS
PEOPLE TO OPENLY AND VISIBLY CARRY A FIREARM ON ONE’S
PERSON WITHOUT A SPECIAL LICENSE OR PERMIT.
“CONCEALED CARRY FIREARMS LICENSE” REFERS TO A SPECIFIC
LICENSE ISSUED TO AN INDIVIDUAL AUTHORIZING THE PERSON
TO CARRY A FIREARM CONCEALED ON HIS OR HER PERSON OR
VEHICLE.
3. IN PHILADELPHIA, UNLIKE ANY OTHER PART OF THE STATE, FOR
ANY PERSON TO LAWFULLY, OPENLY AND VISIBLY CARRY A
FIREARM, THAT PERSON MUST HAVE A CONCEALED CARRY
FIREARMS LICENSE. SO, IN PHILADELPHIA, IF A PERSON HAS A
VALID CONCEALED CARRY FIREARMS LICENSE, HE OR SHE CAN
LEGALLY CARRY A FIREARM EITHER OPEN AND VISIBLE OR
CONCEALED.
4. AN OFFICER ENCOUNTERING A PERSON CARRYING A FIREARM
OPENLY IN PHILADELPHIA SHOULD FOR THE SAFETY OF PUBLIC
INVESTIGATE AS A POSSIBLE VUFA VIOLATION.
A. SINCE A SEPARATE LICENSE IS REQUIRED IN PHILADELPHIA
AND IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR ANY OFFICER TO KNOW WHO DOES
AND DOES NOT HAVE A VALID CONCEALED CARRY LICENSE, IT
IS ENTIRELY REASONABLE FOR OFFICERS TO TEMPORARILY
DETAIN AND INVESTIGATE ANY INDIVIDUAL CARRYING A
FIREARM EXPOSED TO DETERMINE IF THE PERSON IS
OPERATING WITH THE LAW.
B. IMMEDIATELY SEIZE ANY FIREARMS FOR OFFICER SAFETY
DURING THE STOP AND UNLOAD THE FIREARMS IF POSSIBLE,
BUT ONLY IF IT CAN BE DONE SAFELY.
C. A 75-48A MUST BE COMPLETED AND THE BASIS FOR THE STOP
WOULD BE A “POSSIBLE VUFA VIOLATION”
D. ONCE THE OFFICER RECEIVES CONFIRMATION THAT THE
CONCEALED CARRY LICENSE IS VALID, AND THERE ARE NO
OTHER OFFENSE OR VIOLATIONS BEING INVESTIGATED,
OFFICERS SHOULD RETURN THE FIREARM AND AMMUNITION
BACK TO THE INDIVIDUAL AT THE END OF THE STOP.
E. HOWEVER, IF THE INDIVIDUAL CANNOT PRODUCE A VALID
CONCEALED CARRY LICENSE OR THE LICENSE IS NOT VALID
(I.E. EXPIRED OR REVOKED), PROBABLE CAUSE THEN EXISTS
TO ARREST THE INDIVIDUAL FOR THE VIOLATION AND
TRANSPORT THE INDIVIDUAL TO THE DIVISIONAL DETECTIVES
FOR PROCESSING. THE FIREARM AND AMMUNITION SHOULD
BE PLACED ON A PROPERTY RECEIPT (75-3) AND MARKED AS
“ EVIDENCE”. A 75-48A FOR THE INITIAL STOP MUST BE
PREPARED ALONG WITH A 75-48 FOR THE VUFA ARREST.
Sorry… Tried my best to correct the many “spelling
errors” found in this directive…

Mike Huckabee
What does that mean? I think it means I’m not gonna vote for
a candidate who has no chance of winning. Well that kinda sucks. What if he/she
believes what I believe and would be great for the country? What if he/she is
the answer to the Obama nightmare? Frustrating…
After hearing Huckabee drop out this past weekend, it
occurred to me that “electability” should not be a factor at all. We are now
completely bogged down in a vicious money and special interest game that
basically drowns out all but the chosen few, who in turn go out and raise a
billion, with a “B” dollars to seal the deal.
Ultimately, it all comes back to us though. We must begin to
look past the media and the money and vote what is right and what is real, not
some politically correct notion painted and packaged by a propped up Chicago
phony and blessed by a complicit “main stream” media.
It is exactly this process that has polluted the minds of
voters often channeling them away from a better choice. We now run from who we
know would represent our best interest and end up supporting a lessor candidate
because that candidate may have a “better chance of winning”. The results are
plain to see. “We the People” and our country have been stirred away from the
fundamental tenets which the Founders put in play to ensure our longevity as a
free nation. Complacency rules the day and we find ourselves voting with the
masses for the sake of a win. Sadly, there are even those who would vote to be
accepted by their water cooler “friends” or those whose opinion they value
above sensibility, hence the “ten percenters” and a community organizer’s
ascension to the Oval Office.
Looking back, we have been down many roads as a group these
past four years and I have espoused many a thought process and ideology.
However, I submit to you that aside from teaching our children accurate and
applicable American History, it is even more imperative, no critical, that “We
the People” vote our conscience and our country first. A bit lofty I know, but
necessary nonetheless.
As I close this one out I would like you to check out this
link I picked up on as well the other night. It was Huckabee’s new “Learn
our History initiative” for the kids and it looks amazing.
http://learnourhistory.com/ Huck made a very poignant appeal in this regard
stating, “how can we possibly know where we are going if we do not know where
we’ve been?” He went on to describe how so many of our high school kids could
not even pass a basic citizenship test. He ended the show with his announcement
that he would not seek the Republican nomination for POTUS and gave a heartfelt
explanation of the role of his faith in his decision. (Bob Beckle’s smirk when
asked about the announcement on FOX this morning said it all). Pompous and
elitist educators like Beckle are the poster children for the decline of
America. Anyway, Nugent showed up and did an awesome studio rendition of “Cat
Scratch Fever” which got me out of the chair and annoying the neighbors for a
bit. Even Trump got in a little cameo to end a really great show. I respect
Huck’s decision, but while he will certainly hang in to help the others, the
campaign season has lost some legitimacy and fellowship for sure…

Denial Obamanomics
Providence City Hall, Rhode Island.
I was saddened to hear that the capital City of Providence
in my home state of Rhode Island may not be able to cover its bills in a few
months. I say “saddened” because it really is sad to consider our state of
affairs of late. Sad that we’ve been victimized by those we have sent to the
halls of government to represent our interest, and sad because it is indicative
of so many cities and states around the country today. Our elected officials have truly run this
ship aground at every level, municipal, state and federal. So in disgust, I
flipped the channel and heard some more “good news”. Medicare and Medicaid will
now go belly up much sooner than first expected as the feds crunch the numbers
in Washington this week, 220,000 new foreclosure notices going out, food and
gas prices skyrocketed sending the market tumbling on Friday, and we are
dealing with multiple natural disasters in the U.S. with costs of 1 Billion
dollars or more all while our leaders tell us all is well.
Aside from the fact that I think someone is trying to tell
us something, I think it’s fair to say that we can no longer buy into the Obama
Administration portrayal of current events, and must wake up to the reality
that a course correction is necessary and imperative. What is also striking to
me is that recent flooding and tornados in the heartland have drawn attention
to the fact that “national disaster relief money” from FEMA and the declaration
by the President which comes along with it, can no longer be taken for granted.
For the first time folks are asking, where does that money come from? Answer:
the same place all the rest does, China. We are borrowing money to help our
states with these monumental disasters and the subsequent costs. Now I am not
saying that we shouldn’t, but I think it’s important that “We the People”
understand our country is now dramatically ill prepared for such events with
the balance between recovery and bankruptcy precarious at best. The United
States of America is in the worst financial shape it has been, ever! So much so
that it is questionable whether or not our federal government can continue to
assist “when needed” at a local level. That sense of security that
comes from living in the most powerful nation on planet earth is now fading and
it is unfortunate to say the least.
So heres a big fat FYI: The latter half of 2011 promises to
be consequential in ways that will be memorialized in the history books as a
time of great challenge for America. This is not prophesy I speak of but simple
mathematical reality, as well as reading and acceptance of the proverbial
writing on the wall. Now there will be those who down play this and attempt to
sell you their “new version” of the way things should be but ask yourselves
this, is this my parents America, and is it the America I want to leave to my
children? PLEASE get the facts!

College University Children
I was watching Beck recently and he was talking about
“tenure” in colleges and universities around the country. It made me stop and
think about what that really means. It means that “educators” pretty much have
carte blanche to teach (promote) their own theories and ideologies with little
fear of discipline and/or termination. As I thought some more, I reflected
about my position on American college/ university education and how it has been
corrupted by the Left, leaving many Conservative students unable to enjoy the
same “freedom of ideas and expression” touted by these institutions of “higher
learning”. Very often the liberal students are allowed spout the
Communist/Socialist manifesto with vigor and gusto and are then applauded by
their professors, while Conservative students are shouted down and made to feel
inferior or worse. The arena of ideas I often speak of is apparently only open
to those who are of like (Left) mind in these “venues”. Even more ironic and
disturbing is the fact that Conservative students and their families are paying
for the “privilege” of being insulted, shunned and shouted down by Liberal
Professors and their fledgling Socialist ducklings. Understand people, in a
“United States” where Mahmoud Ahmadinejad the blood thirsty Jihadist is
welcomed at Columbia University, and Benjamin Netanyahu is turned away from
Berkeley, there is no balance or discussion, but rather only indoctrination and
a one world order. The other side of the argument is not welcome or encouraged
but is pre-labeled, pre-judged and branded as hate speech. Conservatives are
told to shut up as they are enemies of peace, yet their Left Wing detractors
often spit at them and threaten them with horrible physical violence. This is
the real world of academia in America today and it is “ground zero” in the
fight to save our country.
All that we argue on these pages is for not if we ignore
what is going on in the “belligerent world of academia”. Those on the Left who
mean to change America have been adamant and even specific about using the
bubble that is “college” today to indoctrinate future generations. Even scarier
is this has transcended down to the primary and secondary education system in
recent decades and has been supported and fostered by the teachers unions and
Liberal politicians around the country. They are targeting our kids at younger
and younger ages.
It remains a priority for me and it should be for you all

voice of truth, and be at that damn school to defend the beliefs and principles
you are teaching them and that have made this country great!

“Common sense, uncommon integrity.”
My politics are an evolution of sorts. From my youthful
beach combing “Save the Bay” days, through the years when I ignored my father’s
advice, to the present where I have learned by way of life’s lessons that he was
right all along. For many of us, this is a familiar story. For others, the
journey continues. And for still others, it may never end.
Politics in my home state of Rhode Island is not for the
faint of heart to be sure, and can frustrate even the savviest political
pundit. Sadly, the smallest state in the union has a giant reputation that
speaks too many of the issues plaguing us nationally. For generations, small
town nepotism and paid influence in many forms have bred a political species
that must be eradicated if our Republic is to continue. The problem remains
however, that voters must be willing to accept the truth and do their homework.
For too many years, small groups have been able to mobilize larger groups to
vote against rather than for a candidate. Many a formidable and well
intentioned candidate has been beaten back by the drum beat of negativity and
misinformation of an entrenched and well-funded “player”. Baseless scare
tactics and personal attacks have blurred the lines allowing the likes of a
David Cicilline to be elected to the halls of Congress, despite what most folks
now accept as reality concerning his political endeavors and the consequences
associated with those endeavors. You see, here in Rhode Island it seems we only
awaken after the fact.
Enter Brendan Doherty. I must admit, I am pleased and
excited that many of you from around the country have commented and emailed on
my posts written about Colonel Doherty, his career, and his recent retirement
from the Rhode Island State Police. Well the new chapter I spoke of in those
posts kicked off in the city of Pawtucket today. The super cop is now running
for a Congressional seat in the 1st District. I will not reiterate that which
I’ve already written about Doherty’s character and uncompromising integrity,
however after attending the announcement ceremonies today I am left wondering.
Make no mistake, I have been in the room for a number of these events in recent
years including when his likely primary opponent announced his candidacy, and
this one toped the electric pole by far. He is dynamic and motivated to win.
It’s just that nagging feeling I have shared with all of you so many times. I
can’t shake it…
In this time of trepidation like we have not seen in our
lifetimes, as we negotiate the toughest economic times in recent memory, and as
we struggle to find our footing again within the international community, do
the voters recognize real and ethical change, or will they be fooled (or look
the other way) once again. Do “We the People” accept what is broken and vote to
change course, or do we elect the same old faces because they scare us into
believing the lie? We must decide. I know I have…
There is no way to predict in totality what a Doherty
election would bring, though I have a pretty good idea. With that said, we
simply can no longer avoid the writing on the wall. Actually, it’s more like
painting on the wall… So as I gear up to help Brendan Doherty in whatever way I
can so he may bring his new and ethical way to represent us in Washington, my
observations and questions are these:
1. There is no questioning his intentions or motivations.
2. He is qualified to represent the people of District 1.
3. He is a quick study and will master the unique art of
campaigning.
4. Do the voters accept that our state and our nation are in
peril?
5. Do they understand who is “responsible”?
6. Do they vote a party ticket regardless of the candidate?
(The Rhode Island way.)
7. Do they vote to keep from going over the edge?
We shall see…

While there is probably something to be said for rapper
“Common” and his efforts on behalf of Chicago youth, it certainly doesn’t
warrant an invite to “We the People’s” house. This is a man who has espoused
(in poetic fashion I’m sure”), the “burning” of a former President, and has
“rapped” in support of a convicted cop killer. I’m sorry, but if Mrs. Obama
feels like taking in a rap concert she can pack the little ones into “the
beast”, drag along the Secret Service on our dime, and have at it.
But when the President attempts to lend credibility to
another America bashing Reverend Wright fan by inviting him to perform at the
White House, one has to question his judgment and patriotism for that matter.
This is not a free speech issue. But if the POTUS wants to make an argument
about what is entertainment or art, he can certainly fly out and see Oprah and
Hollywood crowd anytime he likes. This is about common decency and what is
appropriate for the President of the United States to be projecting in his
official capacity. The embarrassment continues…

So the President thinks the border situation is funny. Fresh
off Seal Team 6’s success in Pakistan and he feels compelled to crack a few
condescending jokes about Americas third war. So what else is new? But this is
very serious business Sir. Yes Mr. Obama, many folks were asking for 5000 or
more “available” National Guardsmen to secure the Southern Border and
you sent 1200. Yes, there have been more deportations in the last year than
previous years, but 2 of 3 still make it across. Oh, and don’t forget the
reality of how “taxed” our social services agencies are under the weight of so
many generational illegal aliens and how thats affecting local economies. And
you might want to stop by Rhode Island on your next foray out of Washington and
meet with the young woman who was assaulted in broad daylight by an illegal
alien released from the “sanctuary city” of Providence, when he should have
been deported having been picked up on a lesser offense in 2007. I could write
all night on this one.

This is a nation of laws Mr. President, not men. We simply
cannot have a discussion about “comprehensive immigration reform”
until our government fulfills its responsibility to secure the nations

We have touched on the “Secure Communities” program here in
Rhode Island and the pros and cons of such an initiative concerning illegal
immigration. Now we read of California’s intention to ignore federal law once
again and release illegals from custody that have been charged with minor
offences in a blatant attempt to circumvent federal immigration law. Now this
should not come as a surprise when we look at “the People’s Republic of
California” in totality on these types of “social issues”. However, this loony
stuff is looking and sounding almost secessionist every time we hear of another
case.
I remain a person, who believes in the smallest possible
federal government allowable under the Constitution, but this speaks to one of
the basic tenets and true responsibilities of our federal apparatus, and that
is to protect and enforce the sovereign boarders of The United States. So when
a state basically flips the proverbial bird to the feds like California and
Illinois have done, I think the penalty aspect of such a violation should carry
a bit more weight.
In any case, California specifically, should be doing
everything it can to stay in the good graces of the federal government as its
chief loan officer and purveyor of money to pay its bills…

Bin Laden
Hair “die”…
I have debated many times about who Osama Bin Laden really
was, and I have remained steadfast and confident in my belief that he was
nothing more than an egotistical thug murderer, not the religious “lion” as he
was portrayed. If we look at history, it tells us that the Bin Ladens of the
world are often just that, charismatic cowards who make their bones on the
backs of an uneducated and downtrodden populous. Carefully manipulating their
self-image, they project an all powerful persona which reflects what they know
is required to accomplish their ultimate goal of blind loyalty and control.
As we examine the photos and video from his Pakistani lair,
we see a self-absorbed coward who in the end died scared and confused, not in a
blaze glory proclaiming “Allah Akbar” as some of his followers would have
hoped. We also do not see an ideology driven champion with a rock solid belief
system that he was willing to die for, but rather a man who was all too ready
to push a woman into the line of fire as he attempted to flee. It was always
about him and nothing else.
In the end Bin Laden was exactly who I said he was, a low
life mass murderer who craved only power over people. He died like a cornered
rat, and regardless of the significance of that death to the broader “War on
Terror”, human kind is most certainly better off without him.

Mothers Day
3
It has been said and I agree, parenting is the most
challenging yet rewarding job on earth. If we look a little closer though, we
find what is truly magical about human parenting, that being the unique and
extraordinary bond between mother and child. Now everyone knows I am a big
proponent of the nuclear family and that I believe fathers have a huge
(responsibility role) to play that is in jeopardy today, much to the detriment
of our society. But that is a story for another day. More specifically, a
mother’s physical and emotional attachment to her child begins at conception
and lasts a lifetime. This bond is different than that of the father and in
many ways is the fabric of all that we are and hope to be. I am no expert, but
I believe that if we take the time to examine closely, this connection and all
that comes from it, we will better understand one another and the world will
likely be a better place.
Aside of my “philosophical analysis”, there is the obvious
role of a mom in the home and it is something I marvel at every day. Anyone who
knows me understands the complexities of the life I lead, but motherhood scares
the livin’ crap out of me sometimes. The ability of one person to multitask in
ways that major corporations should research and emulate is nothing short of
astonishing. Church, baseball, football, soccer and music lessons, sprinkled
with breakfast, lunch, dinner, the doctor, dentist and an occasional parent
teacher conference are just a few of the things I pick up on as she breezes
past, and just a fraction I’m sure, of the whole endeavor. This would obviously
include all of the housework, laundry and of course taking care of me… I
contemplate local and world events as they relate to our collective future, and
attempt to save the world on a daily basis. My wife however, understands that
we must start in our own home, or the rest is just an exercise in futility.
Hmmm…
Happy Mother’s Day J. My son could not ask for better.
So on this special day, all you dads out there better make
damn sure you appropriately mark the occasion, or else you may read this post
and then go directly to the garage to hide out for a few days. This one ranks
right up there with the “anniversary” gentlemen.
On a serious note, to all of you moms out there who are
struggling for whatever the reason or cause, God bless and do not give up hope.
Your strength is the light that guides us. And to all of you so called
“fathers” who have abandoned your critical role and responsibility in securing

contempt… No excuses on this one, sorry…

Barack Obama
I know I’m a little late with my take on the President’s
visit to “Ground Zero”, but I’ve been thinking a lot about it. Here goes…
1. Barack Obama is certainly a political chameleon of
Shakespearean proportions. Ironically, he seems most comfortable out of the eye
of the camera and with jacket and tie off. This appears to have been the case
at the NY City fire station visit the other day. The firefighters looked
genially pleased to see and interact with the President of The United States,
and the manner in which he put them at ease is certainly something to be
admired in a leader. Regardless of party and policy, this was a time to reflect
and remember. The POTUS was clearly moved by the experience and appeared
engaging while reflective.
2. The President’s words while visiting the hallowed ground
in Manhattan were on point and his message one of unity, national pride and
accomplishment. He gave credit where credit was due, reassured the families of
those lost, and acknowledged the battle would not end with the death of one
monster. He trumpeted America’s commitment to the end game regarding terrorism
and how we would see it through no matter the time frame.
3. In my eyes, the President did not appear to over reach
and/or over politicize the event, but rather kept it real and solemn as it
should have been.
With all of this said though, here’s the qualifier stuff…
John DePetro, long time radio personality from Rhode Island
said the other day that he felt the President had “come into his own”
referencing Obama’s almost meteoric ascension from Chicago upstart to President
of these United States. DePetro went on to say something else that speaks to my
fears regarding the next Presidential Election cycle, and that is the
Republicans don’t seem to have a front runner that can beat this guy in 2012,
especially considering current events. Now I have recently written about how I
feel the POTUS should not stake his campaign hopes on the death of Bin-Laden,
as Americans have time and again shown their propensity to change course
dramatically when their wallets are affected. However, he is right in that
there does not seem to be a “Clinton” in there for the Republicans who would
make your average American voter see things in a different light, hence my long
held belief that this election will be the Republicans to lose. (Hello Chris
Christie??) Unfortunately, the voters will need this type of “alternative”
because so many of the “10 per centers” are likely to be swayed into a sense of
complacency or raised expectations following the President’s recent triumph.
Giving President Obama the credit he clearly deserves having played his role in
all of this Bin-Laden stuff, let’s look at some facts…
1. President Obama has single handedly done away with the
very techniques used by our intelligence folks to extract the Intel that
finally got Bin-Laden. To deny this excludes you from this conversation as just
a political partisan hack unwilling to admit when you’re wrong. Factually, the
Obama Justice Department is still attempting to prosecute intelligence
officials for their roles in Guantanamo and other places regarding “enhanced
interrogation” efforts.
2. While it is true that the President has increased troop
levels in Afghanistan, he will most definitely stick to his timeline for
withdrawal of those troops regardless of the status of any victory on the
ground. Additionally, he has routinely opposed and vehemently fought against
the very weapons systems and training initiatives that made the raid on
Bin-Laden’s compound possible. There are literally pages of quotes and video of
then Senator Obama espousing the complete opposite of everything he now touts
as American power and pride. To be fair, we must always reconcile this foreign
policy “victory” (1) against the fact that this man did not want to wear a flag
pin on his lapel as he felt it was unnecessarily “symbolic” and gave the
appearance of “taking sides”. Huh??? He also once proclaimed that the Star
Spangled Banner should be changed to something less “parochial and bellicose”
like, “I’d like to teach the world to sing”. Really???
3. The President’s economic policies continue to harm our
economy in ways that reach out to future generations, with an ever growing
number of ominous forecasts and predictions regarding the state of our debt and
dollar breaking every day. His social policies threaten many of the principles
that define us as a nation and are the reasons for our success as the most
powerful country on earth.
Now this is just my short take after digesting the last week
a bit. Could folks like Mr. DePetro be right? Has this been a defining moment
for this President whereby he now sees things in a different way? Does this
week represent a turning point for Barack Obama as it pertains to how he
performs his duties as Commander in Chief in total? As far as I’m concerned,
the evidence says no. Could I be wrong? Sure. But there is simply too much
about this man’s ideology out there for all to see and judge for themselves. I
simply do not feel you can erase that much doctrinal belief system in a person
with one defining moment. There needs to be some thought process, a foundation
with principled beliefs in place so that defining moment may take hold. It is
this theory of mine which tells me that our fate as The United States of
America continues to lie in the hands of “We the People”. Inevitably, we must
all make a choice that represents our children’s America moving forward. And so
I ask you, does the Presidents handling of this major foreign policy
intervention nullify all the negatives??? Well, does it???

I’ve seen my fair share of brain matter scattered about in a
variety of fashions from sudden and violent contact with the inside of a
speeding vehicle, to ballistic ventilation. I hate to be so frank, but the
thought that Americans would somehow be “squeamish” looking at Bin-Laden’s
cracked melon is laughable. Especially considering the manner in which so many
of his victims perished, and how those events were memorialized and played back
over the last ten years on the 24 hour news cycle. Moreover, the extremists are
and will remain perpetually offended regardless of a couple of gory Polaroid’s
of their illustrious and now ocean temperature leader… Heck, a picture of Rosie
and Whoopi mud wrestling would be more offensive.
The simple truth of the matter is that while this appears to
be an extremely well-orchestrated military assault which flawlessly achieved
its objective with only equipment loss, it also appears that the WH is once
again having trouble figuring out the public relations aspect of the matter.
Instead of just trumpeting the win as payback for the worst terrorist attack in
our history and moving on, the Administration has flubbed every explanation
and/or description of the event, and is now at least somewhat pre-occupied with
the perception by the rest of the world. Amazingly, the POTUS is even
contemplating an apology to the Apache Indian folk here at home for the use of
the name “Geronimo” as code for Bin-Laden during the operation. Now while I
respect and admire the late Indian Chiefs commitment to defending his tribal
homeland, I’m quite sure the President or whoever came up with the name meant
no harm… Come on people…!
Nevertheless, I think the Presidents recent bounce in the
polls will be short lived for sure, as this bunch seems to have mastered
snatching defeat out of the hands of victory in their continuing effort to be
ever politically correct.

Obama Clinton Bin Laden
To correct my last post, I know what “everyone
else” knows regarding the reality of this fight and the efforts that lie
ahead to see it through to fruition. For this reason, American’s are realistic
about priorities and what is achievable in the short term. Consequently, and
still with vigilance always in the back of their minds, the focus is sure to
return to the economy, much like it did in the waning years of the Bush “41”
Presidency. “We the People” have an uncanny ability to compartmentalize, focus
on and then control what we can, especially when it comes to our wallets…
So as it appears he intends to get as much political
traction as he can out of recent events, the President would do well to study
the Clinton Election so he might understand what the American people understand
with great and ever growing clarity, and that is we as a nation will always stand
stronger on a sturdy foundation. Ultimately, the death of a rogue mass murderer
will have little effect on the bigger picture for the United States. “It’s
still the economy stupid”…

Osama Bin Laden
I can remember vividly the horrific scenes playing out on
television that fateful day in September of 2001. It was a catastrophic and
defining moment in U.S. History. The death of Bin-Laden marks a very important
though more a symbolic achievement almost a decade later. I was however struck
by a number of ironies today, not the least of which is that much of the
intelligence which eventually led to the worlds most wanted man was obtained
during the Bush Presidency and was the direct result of some of that “torture”
over at “Gitmo”. And while I’m inclined to give the POTUS credit for what must
have been a difficult decision, I did pick up on something Rove said this
morning. The order to “get Bin-Laden” was a directive of the previous POTUS and
simply carried out by this one. Nonetheless, President Obama and his
Administration do deserve credit for putting aside their obvious loathing of
all things military just long enough to appropriately utilize the greatest
fighting force on planet earth to eradicate the cancer that was Bin-Laden.
So as I recall those who leapt into the hands of God from
atop a New York sky scraper, pray for the Pentagon personnel whose last acts in
this life were on behalf of all of us, remember the Flight 93 heroes who were
the first Soldiers in the War on Terror, and those who followed and have given
life and limb in this battle that continues even with the death of this
criminal, I am somehow sad on what should be a happy day.
I guess it is because I understand this fight is not over. I
understand that while Bin-Laden’s death is significant, there are probably
years of fighting still ahead. I also think that if we read between the lines
we can see that all the negotiations and diplomatic posturing in the world
can’t take the place of a properly placed bullet when dealing with so monstrous
and diabolical an enemy.
Anyway, in the words of a passerby at “Ground Zero” when
asked what he thought the day meant, he offered this: “This ain’t Ground Zero
anymore, it’s the World Trade Center today”… Enough said…

get it too, or spend a boat load of tax payer money we don’t have fighting it.
The marijuana debate is one that will go on for some time I
would imagine, but I have some observations about licensed Rhode Island
“Compassion Centers”. It seems our pot head legislators here in the Ocean State
have voted to approve the sale of marijuana for medical purposes in these state
sanctioned venues. (Rep. Watson apparently missed that memo.) Anyway, the
subsequent rush to “open up shop” under the guise of “compassion” makes the
issue even more contentious, suggesting that if you are not in favor of this
effort you obviously have no compassion. Ok, now if we were to use this
analogy, then we would also have no compassion when suggesting that any other
illicit / illegal substance that might be considered effective in “relieving
pain” should not be legalized, say for instance, heroin, cocaine or
methamphetamine. I’m very sure there are folks out there that would tell you
that these narcotics also serve “a compassionate purpose”.
Look, without beating this to death, it is not a question of
states’ rights regarding single payer healthcare, or some other issue clouded
by the legal and political interpretation of an over reaching Constitutional
issue like the Commerce Clause. Neronha is simply stating the obvious in that
the State of Rhode Island could and probably will run afoul of Federal Law
regarding the sale and/or usage of an illegal drug, in this case marijuana, and
may also open up the flood gates for civil litigation as well. But it appears
to me that he is also sending the message, whether consciously or
unconsciously, that unlike U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, he will not pick
and choose which laws to enforce or violations to prosecute. Amen Counselor!

What’s Seinfeld gonna think??
I know there has already been a lot of stuff out there in
the blogosphere regarding the question of “Superman’s” citizenship status, but
I could not help but kick in a little bit myself. In a free nation, and in
consideration of our Constitutionally guaranteed right to free speech, one
often has to keep things in perspective. With that said, I have always
championed protest but with civility, criticism but with decency, and
interpretation but with due diligence regarding the truth as well as the
intent. So when political correctness treads where it shouldn’t, and
revisionists attempt to re-write the history books in order to create a
different America in the minds of the next generation, I will stand opposed
with every ounce of my being and every legal means at my disposal.
It is true Superman, the world is a smaller place than it
was when you arrived. But where you see this as a reason to shed what you stand
for to be accepted, I see it as a reason to return to our principles not
abandon them, fight for the future not accept a different and diminished
version, and defend that which so many have died for as my sons America. This
thought process has saved the lives of literally millions of innocents over
generations and provided a beacon of hope to countless others.
You see you can’t have it both ways Mr. Kent. The world
needs you to stand strong in the face of these challenges to freedom. We need
someone like you to call it like it is and not accept the Al-Assad’s of the
world for the sake of Collectivism, and in spite of their murderous activities.
We need you to champion the cause of human kind in a way that lights the path
to a better future, not just a “universal one”. And we need you to embody what
is good of character, thus raising the bar to something more than simple
acceptance with absolutely no pre-conditions, just because someone like Van Jones
or George Soros says so.
America is not perfect Superman, we know this. But if you

Good luck kids…
I want you all to know that I completely understand the
interest in the whole Royal Wedding thing. The pageantry and majesty of it all
is hard to resist, not too mention all the colors and “characters”. With that
said however, when I heard the ABC “on scene reporter” almost wet her pants as
the royal carriage rode past with William and Kate on board, I was a bit taken

dysfunctional bunch with their share of royal baggage, (not necessarily William
yet). And while I will admit, like so many other red blooded American boys of
the early eighties, I was in love with Princess Diana, the truth is that it was
and remains a fairy tale.
Now I do not begrudge the Brits their fawning over the now

journalistic types here in the “Colonies” would be a bit more professional. I
mean, I’m getting “text updates” from the FOX Network to tune in for their

Look, this is a big event that deserves our attention and is

Its two years late, but I think Donald Trump has finally
initiated the vetting process for this POTUS that should have taken place back
during Election 08. Think what you may about the whole birth certificate thing,
but the truth is this President is a not the man the media portrayed during the
campaign, and beyond. He was and is an overblown community organizer, with
extremely limited governmental experience, a great big social chip on his
shoulder, and who is clearly in way over his head as President of The United
States. His incompetence is eclipsed only by his palpable arrogance in the face
of criticism over that incompetence. Sadly, the main stream media (and many
Americans) have given, and continue to give him a free pass at every turn,
instead focusing on his detractors and those who may disagree with his policies
with unbelievable aggression, the likes of which we have not seen in all of
U.S. journalistic history.
Primary season aside, I am hopeful that whoever ends up
opposing our current President in the upcoming election, will bring the fight
and not acquiesce to political correctness and hypocrisy at the expense of the
truth. Electing Barack Obama was as I said back in November 2008, a huge
mistake with far reaching consequences, some of which remain to be seen and
experienced. And if he should win re-election in 2012, in the face of all that
we now know, we will truly have only ourselves to blame…

OMG, could this President be any more of a condescending
elitist? For starters, he himself could have nixed the birth certificate thing
years ago, but chose to let it linger, most likely because the resolution might
not have been anything he could prove. To add insult to injury, the man
chuckles and talks about leaving this “bickering”, partisanship and “silliness”
behind so that we might “make our grandchildren proud”. Silliness, is he
kidding? Lingering unemployment, skyrocketing gas prices with no relief in
sight, growing inflation and debt that our grandchildren will probably have to
pass on to their grandchildren, proud of what Sir? Moreover, this POTUS is the
poster child for partisanship. He and his minions have been caught more times
trouncing any and all opponents, and often with expletive driven vitriol, than
any other nationally elected bunch in our history.
My son recently asked me what hypocrisy meant. Now you know
where I was inclined to go on this one, but out of respect for the office, I
simply said Joe Biden…

Town hall meetings
So “MoveOn” and the DNC are urging Democrats to get out to
town hall meetings during the current congressional recess in order to make the
Republicans feel the heat over Paul Ryan’s budget proposal. Despite the obvious
and ever present ideological components out there when we talk about Socialist
organizations like “MoveOn”, I do think it is worth noting that the Dems are
attempting to use what they saw as a Republican “tactic” when it came to your
local Reps and Senators town hall meetings. The problem with this approach is
that it was not a tactic so much as it was a simple ground swell of anger
against the “Stimulus” and government healthcare, and it caught on. Average
folks were coming out and arguing for their futures and families, and they were
genuinely ticked off. Now we have the Lefty radicals actually encouraging and
even organizing a movement against “fiscal responsibility” by way of stacking
the “halls”. Go figure…
This is just another sign of things to come in this election
cycle. The Left is exposed and they don’t like it. Consequently, they have
chosen to fight in the light for a change, and the battle for the soul of this
great nation has begun in earnest. What role will you play?

Energy independence
“There is no magic bullet for rising gas prices”. Now I
don’t know about you, but it appears there is an audible and somewhat gleeful
uptick in the Presidents voice when he speaks of the need to pursue
“alternative and renewable” sources of energy as a means to offset rising fuel
prices. Ok, really? So let’s look at the “oil company subsidies” he brought up
this past week as well as the overall profit margin in a gallon of gasoline
today. Factually, the figure of just under a .10 cent gross profit per gallon
to the oil companies has remained virtually unchanged for years, while the
profit to the government by way of usage and other taxes has risen to an
all-time high of about .50 cents per gallon, with the rest going to costs for
exploration, importation, refinement, employee wages, equipment
maintenance/repair and other production related expenditures.
It is true that oil companies are allowed subsidies in the
form of tax breaks applied to a number of their cost related activities, but
this is over blown when we look at the real numbers. While on paper the
government might benefit in the area of $45 billion dollars in savings, “over
10 years” if subsidies were eliminated, that savings would actually come in the
form of added revenue which would be directly affected by the oil companies’
ability to drill and make a profit, probably making that number significantly
less. As a result, the Obama Administrations war on drilling by way of
restrictive permitting fees and guidelines, as well pointless environmental
whims and ridiculously long waiting periods for these “permissions” leave
families who might benefit by way of jobs and income, to ponder why the
President of The United States is blocking the road to employment and lower
fuel costs for Americans. Moreover, and for the idiots who buy into the Lefts
anti-Capitalist propaganda, even if the oil companies were denied the
subsidies, and voluntarily decided to give up 50% of their entire post tax
profit, it would only affect the price of a gallon of gas today by a meager.04
cents. Sorry folks, but while the numbers may fluctuate ever so slightly from
month to month, the truth of the matter is the POTUS and his gang of Lefty
environmentalists are the real manipulators and price gougers, and they have a
very specific end game in mind. Get the facts!
