For those of us who make it our business to be tuned into
the tactics of (WH) Harry Reid and the Liberal Left in this country, the
current blame game coming from same is no surprise. The Republicans on the
other hand continue to fight amongst themselves instead of just “advancing the
chains to bring about a first down”. And the Libs are screaming class warfare
to all who are inclined to listen because they either don’t know any better,
don’t care, or have just come to enjoy the new United States of tax free entitlements.
The reality of today is simple people. GDP is in the tank (again), the jobs
numbers are a wash against the last report and small businesses are hiring
nobody. Corporations are making their money overseas, health-care costs are
skyrocketing and the dollar is sliding. These are just some of the reasons we
are in the cross hairs of the international credit reporting agencies, not the
damn debt ceiling. The hypocrite Dems know this and have launched an all-out
assault (with the help of the complicit Main Stream Media), on the so called
“extreme” right as a means to divert attention away from the now glaringly
obvious effects of this nearly three year old Obama economy.
The charade is over. The numbers can no longer be explained
away. The whole world is paying attention to what we all must now admit is the
complete failure of the Obama Presidency. Consequently, the Left must find a
way out, and true to form, that way will be absent meaningful solutions but to
demonize the opposition who are simply struggling with how to convince “We the
People” that we are beyond screwed!

On second thought, stay sleeping Joe…
Normally I do not identify with any particular group. This
is necessary as I comment and post about so many different issues. This
certainly doesn’t mean I am an “Independent” of the political sort, but rather
that I am a “Conservative Constitutionalist” of my own making, who votes
Republican and cannot afford to be mislabeled. With that said many of you have
emailed me asking if I am “member of the Tea Party” and are surprised to hear
that while I have been to the rallies and support their efforts, I am not shall
we say a “card carrying member”. What I will say is that any group or
organization, with so diverse a membership, that louds freedom and
Constitutional principles is ok in my book, and the notion that this President
and his gaff prone VP are making them a target this election cycle, just makes
me want to support them even more.
Let someone bad mouth the ACLU and watch these guys run to
defend the agency that routinely picks and chooses which Constitutional
Amendments it wants to defend. Or let a Fox News pundit even suggest union
reform and get ready for the vitriolic fervor that would ensue. Listen, this
double standard has existed for generations but is recognized more of late with
the advent of the 24 hour news cycle and talk radio. So when I listen to Joe
Biden, that’s exactly what I hear. I hear a disgruntled Progressive who has
been outed for the hypocrite that he is, and is now hunkering down to defend
his Constitutionally illegitimate position. I hear a person who is angry about
having to explain and justify his nanny state “ethics”. And I hear a
tax and spend Liberal screaming he needs more of your money to fund his elitist
appetite.
So if you must know and have not already guessed, I will
always come down on the side of our nation’s Constitution. And quite frankly,
it looks as if the Tea Party is much more closely aligned with that which http://blog.patriot64.com/2011/11/02/a-black-conservative/our

Observations of
“Irene”…

From my car…
I’m back… Thank you all so much for the email
encouragement…
As I stood patiently at a McDonalds in Bristol Rhode Island
waiting for my order, the women behind the counter mixed up the slips and gave
my order to the man behind me who had ordered after I did. It was not her fault
as there was a very long line at the only fast food restaurant that was open
after Irene and it was chaos. The real issue was the ignorant individual who
took my food and walked away with his head turned and never looked back despite
my glare. The flip side of that coin would be the man not far from my home who
was walking around with his chain saw and tools in a wheel barrel offering free
help for anyone with trees down in their yard, or the women who was walking
around knocking on the doors of the elderly on my street just to check in on
them. Irene has brought out the best and the worst in people I think.
National Grid: These are trying days for the folks at
National Grid. North Eastern hurricanes create a host of problems ranging from
the obvious destruction of poles and lines caused by falling trees and limbs,
to the minutia of debugging an entire grid network so that a consistent and
safe rate of power may be restored to all customers. Now there is certainly
something to be said for our aging infrastructure and the proactive approach to
preparedness which should be in place to limit the down time created by these
events, but now is not the time for that discussion. Men and women from all
over the country remain in buckets high in the air doing extreme and dangerous
work with minimal rest in a herculean effort to restore our power as
expeditiously as possible. So to those calling the “police department”
complaining about missing their favorite television programs: please, please
stop!
Police, Fire Rescue, and National Guard: What is there to
say here? God bless and stay safe. Thanks for doing what you do when we need
you…
Local Radio: I was working most of the time during the storm
having sent my family North. The constant on air presence of WPRO AM – 630 on
the car radio kept me focused through high wind and rain. Thanks for being on
the air…
The TV Meteorology teams: Judging by the forecast it is
pretty clear that predicting these things remains an imperfect science.
Nonetheless, all the local channels stayed on the air and kept us in the loop
as Irene made her way up the coast. Get some well-deserved sleep you all.
Fools and volunteers: As we often see in these situations
people do foolish things and put themselves at risk as well as those who must
go and save them. Irene was no exception as people were swept off rocks too
close to the water and had to be rescued. Apparently there was only one death
locally, and as tragic as that was, it was a person who refused to evacuate and
died of a heart attack because a tree blocked rescuers from reaching him in
time. I guess there is an element of human nature that will always be part of
these equations. There were also many volunteers who stepped up from the
beginning and did not falter in the wind and rain. People like these are a
tribute to the community, but apparently a dying breed.
These are only a few things which come to mind as I
transition from my own role as a first responder to an observer in the
aftermath of an emergency event. One thing is for certain and that is had this
storm been a more powerful cyclone, the lessons would have been more painful
for sure. As it was, there were many areas of vulnerability including old and
outdated infrastructure. More importantly however, was the amount of folks I
heard on local radio call in shows who seemed unprepared and unable to
function. It was truly scary to note the level of selfishness and the
self-centered attitudes of some during a time when people should be pulling and
working together. People were actually suggesting National Grid was somehow
selecting more affluent areas to restore service in first. This is ironic as
the town I live in is considered affluent and we have been and remain without
power since day 1. (Note to self – I need to become more affluent.)
I guess my initial observation would be that while there
were many acts of kindness and well intentioned thoughts and prayers, we as a
nation have become distant and over stimulated. Basic communication has become
fractured and uncommon. Without our daily exposure to the comforts of this
generation we become agitated and ignorant. One woman called and railed about
her predicament and accused a local talk show host of being insensitive to her
plight on food stamps, unemployment and a number of other government programs.
She went on about how everyone was forgetting the poor during the storm and how
“she couldn’t afford to prepare”, and I asked myself: she can’t afford candles,
she can’t fill up her tub with water, and she can’t buy some canned or dry
food? Have we become that dependent? Have we become that much of a nanny state.
What would have happened to this poor woman had the storm been a category # 2
or worse? Look, I’m not being insensitive here but American independence and
self-preservation seem things of the not so distant past. I remember snow
storms as a boy where power was out for days and neighbors came out and helped
one another as if by nature. Moreover, this was a support mechanism that
promoted a comforting and albeit necessary feeling of well-being within the
community. These are foundational and also very human traits that have been the
fabric of our culture for generations, and without them we seem lost and
confused in times of trouble. We would also do well to remember these cracks
and how they are perceived as long term and ideological weakness to those who
wish us ill.
During difficult times we should take measure not only of
our governmental and operational abilities to cope, but also our emotional and
community abilities as well. America is America for very unique and special
reasons and we must remember and pass that on, preferably in person and not by
text message…
My thoughts and prayers are out today for all those affected
by Irene…

One parting shot though, and that is for the Socialist Mayor

Dont look at me… Come on kids, lets go for ice cream…
The continuing pre-occupation with GW when assessing blame
for our economic woes is troubling. It has always been puzzling to me how many
Americans would just as soon cut off their nose to spite their faces. A recent
poll shows 51% percent still feel as though the lion’s share of the blame goes
to the former POTUS, this despite the fact that the current occupant of the WH
has now outspent Bush in only a third of the time. Moreover, this type of “feel
good analysis” ignores so much of our actual dilemma and the reasons for it,
that it makes any collective or collaborative solution that much more unlikely.
The refusal of some in this country to place any blame at
all at the feet of the “chosen one”, or even to suggest that his policies are
hurting instead of helping the country, remains an ideological and unnecessary
hurdle to recovery. And so for all of the President’s bravado about “a do
nothing Congress” and how he will force the issue of compromise, (when his
vacation is over of course), it appears it will not matter as much as it
should, at least for those who prefer inaction and the blame game to meaningful
and actual recovery/reform.

Where is Muammar Qaddafi? Who flipping cares?
More importantly, what does the fall of his regime mean for
the United States. Firstly we must remember that the POTUS was dragged kicking
and screaming to the fight by French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his NATO
band of Freedom Fighters. For this reason, if credit is due, Sarkozy should get
it and he will, at least in Europe. For all intents and purposes though, the
fundamental question on the use of force in this situation will surely be
debated. But Libya is something different considering the economic climate
around the globe and here at home. The twelfth largest oil producing nation,
and who is leading it, could have a significant impact on the world markets and
Wall Street. Money not spent on fuel costs goes right back into the economy. At
least that is what every leading economist is telling us. So in theory, the
re-up of Libya’s oil production from about 66,000 barrels a day back to the
pre-conflict 1.5 million, should drive oil costs down and spur growth. I sure
as heck hope so, but I’m gonna wait and see on that one… The bigger question
for me is, why did President Obama finally acknowledge what everyone over in
Europe seemed to already know? Moreover, do you think he did for the oil??
Hmmm?? I can pretty much bet you will not hear the Main Stream Media giving him
the “GW” razz with that question. Sickening, I know…
Truth be told, Muammar Qaddafi was in power for far too many
years and killed far too many innocents. The continuance of his flamboyant and
sociopathic style of leadership was a testament to how often other nations were
willing to look the other way so as to secure the market price of a barrel of
oil. Sadly, the faces of those lost in Lockerbie are what I see as the debate
begins over the ouster of the “devil we know”. So what now do we expect of the
devil we don’t?

I am someone who works hard for his living.
I am someone who is concerned that his government spends
more than it takes in.
I am someone who can read a spread sheet and not ignore the

I am someone who acknowledges the opportunities afforded me
by way of a free Republic.
I am someone who understands those opportunities are not
guarantees of success.
I am someone who knows freedom is not free.
I am someone who believes in the rule of law and (equal not
special) justice under that law.
I am someone who knows a nation as great as ours must be
there for its less fortunate.
I am someone who believes the above applies only to those
actually less fortunate.
I am someone who believes politicians should represent “We

I am someone who trusts but verifies.
I am someone who does his homework and believes others

With the SEIU watching, a typical classless act…
Well I am another year older, and somewhat wiser I would
imagine. I guess that’s the way it’s supposed to be. I was reminiscing this
past weekend about my childhood and how different things were then. Alarmingly,
it just doesn’t seem that long ago. Not just because of the fact that I can’t
let my young son out of my sight even for a minute, but because everything else
seems to be changing as well. America is being attacked from within and it is
difficult to watch. Are we on the down slide at 235? Just a question I’ve been
asking myself recently… Your thoughts???
Back to the business of the day…
Listening to “experts” talk (up or down) the economy is
absolutely killing me. Though judging by some of my email recently, that should
be a good thing… There is one thing for certain however and that is we have
come to the point where everyone seems to be picking a side. I must believe
this is a good thing as it forces the conversation and tells me people are beginning
to understand the basics of our free market economy better, and ultimately
voicing strong opinions. You see, for far too long the status quo has been
slowly destroying our economic stability. The takers have hidden behind their
politically correct/pandering politicians and the givers have become complacent
to the point that they have allowed the opposition to paint them into corner.
Now I admit that it is much more complex than this, however
for the first time in recent memory the fundamental framework of it all is
something folks are talking about. This has to happen if we are to survive. “We
the People” must take stock of what America was, what it is, and what it will
become. We will do this by way of who we elect in 2012. For my part, I am gearing
up for what is sure to be the most tumultuous election cycle in the last 100
years, maybe even in U.S. history.
What we see on the ground out of the gate: Vitriol has
replaced the “civil” discourse the POTUS had called for and pontificated about
with such eloquence, and those who choose to challenge their leaders on their
decisions in this free Republic are now referred to as “terrorists” and are
told they can “go straight to hell” by allegedly respectable elected officials.
The “Great Uniter” is driving the class warfare wedge deep into the fabric of
our culture, pitting one against the other instead of highlighting those
fundamental tenets which bind us in times of uncertainty. And the world now
sees our great nation as more than vulnerable to its own devises and
shortcomings, with those who wish us ill just waiting like hyenas for the great
beast to die. So many high promises, so much talk of hope, and yet so much
disappointment…
I did not vote for President Obama. But many of you will be
surprised to know I don’t blame him for all of our ills either. It is always a
pitfall for the person who occupies the office during difficult times that they
share a hearty dose of the blame for what ails the country. I do however hold
him accountable for his fundamental disregard for what is America. I do hold
him responsible for the fact that he enjoyed what every President dreams of,
that being control of all houses of elected government, and squandered that
advantage to promote only social reform by way of a failed stimulus package and
a jobs killing government healthcare plan, yet could not even secure a budget
with the brand of his party affiliation. But most disappointing of all is that
President Obama has failed to recognize the significance of his own Presidency,
in that he is actually part of real “change” brought about in comparatively
record time when viewed through the historical and global lens.

Will somebody please slap this little fool…?
It is with a fair amount of confidence that I tell you the
American hikers in Iran will be released sooner rather than later. Nonetheless,
this bogus sentencing by the “Iranian interpretation of a court of law” is an
indicator of how their leadership views America as weak and indecisive, much
like it did in the late 1970’s. So as we prepare to remember 9/11 ten years
later, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will once again stain the soil of The United States
with his presence in September when he visits the United Nations. Undoubtedly,
he will have, or will then release the two hikers as a “symbol’ of his gracious
leadership, while simultaneously chastising the United States as an evil power
which must be eradicated along with the Zionist State.
If I may, here is my suggestion for President Obama should
he see his way clear to recognizing that dialog with murderers is always
counterproductive. Have an American emissary meet with the little criminal when
he arrives in New York and tell him forthrightly:
“You will release the
two hikers immediately and return all monies put forward for the release of the
young lady earlier this year. You will also publically acknowledge that there
was a mistake made in the capture and subsequent detention of all involved. You
will also cease and desist with all arms shipments to Hezbollah and Hamas, as
well as any and all insurgents within the borders of any sovereign nation to
include Iraq and Afghanistan. And as a
bonus, you will hold free and fair elections beginning the next cycle in your
country.”
The emissary will then explain the alternative should he
refuse:
“If this is in any way unacceptable to you, the United
States will begin a relentless campaign of diplomatic arm twisting and
financing along with weapons sales to any and all freedom fighters inside and
outside the borders of your country, with the laser focused intent to
eventually have you arrested, prosecuted and hanged for crimes against
humanity. Think Sad am Hussein and Osama Bin-laden half pint… And don’t wait
for the translation you little pimp, just make it happen… Thanks and try the
veal, it’s the best in the city …
Now I’m sure this sounds a little off the curb and I will
admit that satire is at its root. But seriously, in the face of our disintegrating reputation
abroad, it is high time the U.S. reassert itself and remind the would be
dictators/conquerors of the world, that we will stand side by side with our
allies, and will without hesitation, attack the enemies of human freedom
whenever and wherever they may show themselves.

Perry did a pretty good job explaining his position and the young boy actually

Ya know, I recently attended a seminar where a noted expert

The President is really good at preaching “compromise” every

With Americans of all walks, including “legal” immigrants,
against amnesty or anything that looks like it, Obama is still pushing ahead
with a “case by case” approach to deportation using the “Dream Act” criteria.
How do you “negotiate” with a guy that’s gonna do what he wants anyway. This
may be cause for a chuckle at the water cooler or at the martini bar after
work, but that’s not how it works in America. This is why when I hear the
President whining about being called a Socialist, I usually end up yelling at
the television, “then stop acting like one then”.
The economic problems we face as a nation are critical and I
think we can all agree on that. So why then would any politician be pushing to
further burden the system by way of adding folks to the hand out list when
there is nothing left to hand out but Chinese money? Only one who knows that
these future voters will more than likely support him and his causes. Is this
rocket science? I think not…
Look, I’m not saying that all of these folks are going to

During a recent interview with TV Guide, he called Deen the

Look, I am mindful of the notion that there appears to be a

So much beauty yet so much political mayhem… Where is our
pathetic Governor???
I’ve been trying to move away from this “civility” in
government issue but it keeps popping up, this time closer to home. After a
recent dust up between a Rhode Island Representative and local “persons”
affiliated with the NEA following a court proceeding recently, new revelations
have come to light regarding the treatment of those wanting to promote
transparency and good government, at the hands of union officials and their
supporters. It seems that while this matter was being vetted by the Rhode
Island media, AM Radio 630 WPRO’s John DePetro spoke on the air with Harriet Lloyd,
Executive Director of the Rhode Island Statewide Coalition (RISC), a local
government watchdog group. Lloyd described an incident back in March were an
improvised explosive device was apparently detonated outside of her home
causing a large fireball and significant damage to the point that the BATFE
investigated the matter as being “perpetrated by a professional”. The blast was
heard a mile in the distance by several witnesses. Alarmingly, this matter
which Lloyd described as “meant to send a message” of intimidation regarding
her groups initiatives which may have been perceived as anti-union, appears to
have been something less than an issue for “local law enforcement”.
Now the fact that the incident seems to have been kept out
of the media spot light is astounding on its face. But even more disturbing is
the notion that local Law Enforcement may have dragged their feet just a bit at
the initial investigation. Now this is new to the page and for this reason I
will reserve judgment until I have all the facts. With that said however, and
with all the talk about “Tea Partiers as terrorists” and the like, and with the
glaring double standard now being applied in places like Minnesota, Iowa and
other high profile spots, and with our President unable to put together a
coherent explanation for this phenomenon after all of his “civil discourse”
preaching, one has to wonder are we turning a very bad corner in this country?
What does it say to the rest of the world about this “Republic of laws” when
the free speech of those who would question their government and its
affiliations are treated with wanton contempt, and even threatened with
violence withou fear of justice? I wonder?? To be continued…
Update:
To say that there are some within the union ranks who should
be prosecuted for their actions is legitimate at the very least. Moreover, to
dismiss the actions of halfwits like Lou Rainone and his band of wanna be tough
guys is just union placating, and shows a lack of understanding when it comes
to the fundemental issue of collectve bargaining as a whole. So for those who
would brush this type of infantile behavior aside, you are just part of the
problem.
Having said that, those who would implicate without
evidence, the NEA, as well as a LE agency which has apparently done its job now
that we know the facts of the case, should tread lightly. These types of
mischaracterizations do nothing but fan the flames of an already volatile
environment here in the crookedest little state in the “union”.

This will undoubtedly be one of, if not the most contentious
Presidential Campaigns in American History.
It was good to hear the POTUS will finally get in the game
with a “plan” of his own now that his job approval numbers are below 40%. It
was kicking and screaming and threatening to blame Congress for everything to
be sure, but at least he’s now engaged. That engagement was evident when Iowa
Tea Party representative Ryan Rhodes challenged the President yesterday on Joe
Biden’s “Terrorist” remark during the debt ceiling debate. As expected, Obama
dodged the question but wasted no time painting himself as the “oppressed”
Commander in Chief, complaining that he has been labeled a Socialist for
“Obamacare” and taking away freedom by way of his policies. Now I am trying not
to laugh on this one, but is he kidding? If we are to give an honest and true
accounting of the policies and belief systems of #44, what other label should
we give him? You see, this is the issue for the Progressive Left in America.
They walk the walk but hate the label because they understand it still does not
sit well with the Majority of “We the People” who understand the importance and
idealistic value of this free Republic.
I must add however, that I never would have imagined so Left
of center a politician as Barack Obama becoming President of the United States
in my lifetime. It is truly a testament to exceptional campaign shell game put
on by the Obama machine in 2008, pulling the proverbial wool over the eyes of
sleepy (“middle” of the road folks) in our country. Hell, they blindsided the
Clintons, and that just don’t happen in Democratic politics. With that said, I
believe the Obama Presidency has brought to the forefront, an argument long in
the making, and turns out necessary for our nations continuance as the great
power we have all come to know. The lines are now clearly drawn and the Liberal
threat is out of the shadows.
As the 2010 Election was arguably the first 6 rounds of a 12
round championship fight. The remaining 6 rounds will be hard fought over the
next 15 months. And make no mistake, to the winner goes the future of our
children’s America.

noticed a disturbing trend among the Socialist Media types and bloggers since
Sarah Palin burst onto the scene in 2008, and that is the disrespectful,

Now I will not post any of this vile crap as it is beneath

there has been entirely too much wrangling over verbiage and design, as well as
too many cost overruns for so important a project, though I guess the sheer
hugeness of the politics involved may have played some role in all of it.
Nonetheless, the ascension of these buildings back into the skyline of
Manhattan may finally bring some measure of closure to the worst act of
terrorism ever perpetrated on the sovereign soil of United States. Not for the
families of those murdered by any means, though the memorial aspects of the

but rather for an nation longing to grab hold of something and use it to

The last ten years have been a blur for the most part, and

As we mark the 50th anniversary of the building of the
Berlin Wall, it is worth noting that our foreign policy of late has been
anything but effective. Gone are the days of the United States as a force for
good entrenched firmly in the path of an onslaught of Dictators and murderous
Social Engineers. Today we are viewed merely as a distant voice with little
real influence but for the polite requests of an inexperienced academic in the
WH. Sure we have ourselves mixed up in Libya where it remains unclear who the
enemy will be when all is said and done, and President Obama did pull the
trigger on GW’s executive order to kill the criminal Bin-laden, but where are
we really? What is the role of America in the world moving forward?
The POTUS campaigned on ending what he viewed as two failed
wars yet more U.S. Troops have died in Afghanistan under his watch than under
Bush. He campaigned on the notion that America was wrong about “Gitmo” yet it
remains open, (as it should, incidentally). He pontificated about dialog with
our enemies as opposed to peace through strength, yet Middle Eastern Leaders
ignore him as if he were not even speaking, example: Egypt and Syria where the
bloodshed continues. He reaffirmed our alliance with Israel and then pressured
them to compromise their own borders and security in order to accommodate an
illegitimate nation that wants to destroy our most important ally in the
region. And he has failed miserably at enforcing our own borders with Mexico,
saying nothing when Felipe Calderón stood up in front of the United Nations and
chastised America as the real problem on our southern Border.
I’m sure it will come as no surprise I did not support the
President in 2008. With that said however, I remember watching as he walked
onto that stage after winning the election and thinking how special a night it
was, how far our country had come, and in so historically short a period of
time as compared to any in history. I also remember hoping that he would be
cognizant of the significance of his election, as well as his “inexperience”,
and that he would put aside ideology long enough to “understand” before he
rushed to implement the “college try”. It is sad to think that he has
squandered that opportunity and basically brought us to the precipice of political
indecision and division, here and abroad. Stubborn ideology and political
posturing have truly clouded his judgment and robbed him of one fundamental
understanding necessary to lead, “historical perspective”. Wherever this
Presidential race may takes us one thing is clear, President Barack Obama will
be remembered in the history books not as one who brought the nation together

In Reagan like form he clearly defined his position, that

this race will be defined. In short order Perry breathed new life into what

couldn’t or wouldn’t accept responsibility for certain aspects of his Presidency.
Well I’m here to tell you folks, this President appears to be the poster child
for “passing the buck”.
I think it is fair to say there has not been a Presidential
candidate who has so clearly articulated and then brought to fruition that
which he promised as Barack Obama. I have had this very discussion with many an
“Independent” and I’ve reminded them of the documented instances where then
Candidate Obama professed his desire for national healthcare, stimulus
spending, tighter EPA regulations, higher gas prices as a means to push his
green agenda and higher taxes for the so called “richest Americans” to name
some. Truth be told, there is not much the man has done that he did not say he
was going to do.
Now he is doing the proverbial side step and attempting to
capitalize on the tanking poll numbers for Congress. The President is using any
media outlet available to tell folks to call their respective Representatives
and demand compromise. This from the most hypocritical and uncompromising politician
to walk the halls of the WH in decades, and a man who is now trying mightily to
escape the reality of this failed academic experiment.
No, I think not Sir. As you are the President of the United
States, I respectfully ask that in the best interest of our nation you not run
from these problems and your responsibilities, but rather take a piece of your
own advice and work together with Congress to help find the ingredient which
will unite us in a common purpose. You swept to office one night draped in the
flag and with millions hanging on your words of “hope and change”. Be true to
your oath and lead. Get off the sideline and into the game Mr. President.
NOTE: The POTUS had better not misread Congressional poll

not “their” Congressman/woman, whereas in his case, his sinking poll numbers
are exclusive to Barack Obama.

I’m not sure that Governor Rick Perry’s entrance into the
Presidential foray will be a “game changer”, but it will force a few folks into
the light, including the President. For starters, Perry is a no-nonsense Chief
Executive who is not afraid to explain who he is and what he believes. At a
time when this type of forthright explanation of where a politician stands is
lacking, it will be a refreshing change of pace. More importantly, Perry’s
unabashed belief system may make it harder for many of the “ten
percenters” to hide behind political correctness when making their choices
to shape the future for posterity.
I have been writing for a long time now about how “We the
People” will eventually have to choose what we believe about America. We must
do our homework and decide what country we want to leave to our children. Will
it be an “Entitlement Society” devoid of the faith and inspiration to better
ones self through hard work and determination while simultaneously having
everything allotted to us via an all-encompassing central entity with the power
decide taxpayer funded “fairness”, or will it be a free Republic where the
limits of our successes are dictated only by our ability to recognize ourselves
as the driving force behind them.
President Obama is right. We are indeed living in a time of

sense of urgency as we watch our country being dismantled from the top down and
wonder aloud who will be the one to pull us back from the brink. One thing does
stand out for me and that is the tone is beginning to change. I have told you
all that I’m a big supporter of Rick Perry not only because of his record, but
because he has no problem telling Libs where to get off. I also believe
Governors have a far better understanding of executive leadership than
Congressmen or Senators. With that said, I have been waiting to see if Mitt
Romney would show a little hutzpah before the campaign was over. Well I’d say
he did in Iowa.
It is always a challenge for me to watch the Progressive

screen and>>>>, well, you know what I mean. But even more
frustrating sometimes is listening to Republicans try to appease and slither
their way out of the argument in the most politically correct way possible. Well
Mitt Romney apparently didn’t get the memo. When confronted with a couple of
obvious entitlement plants yelling at a rally, he laid into them something
fierce and set the record straight on who actually pays taxes in this country.
It was truly refreshing. He was quick on his feet and decisive, showing

The good news for now is that the Republicans hung on to the

Lefty attack machine will now pump more of the union rank and file dollars into
a very expensive and lengthy battle to recall Gov. Scott Walker. As a union
member and public servant for most of my working career, I remain conflicted
with the battle over the role of collective bargaining today currently raging
across the country. In the end, I am disappointed that massive social service
programs have drained economic resources at all levels of government thus
placing public sector unions and the necessary community service many of their
workers perform squarely in the fiscal debate. Appropriately, the argument has
taken on a new dynamic, in that the question of whether or not a union should be
able to negotiate “certain aspects” of any contract entered into with a
government body is now on the table. I will be honest and tell you that I think
some things must be “off” the table when it comes to public service. I have
always felt that one enters into these fields of endeavor with an open mind and
the desire to serve “first”. Make no mistake however, I am not advocating for
unfair or unethical treatment of the public worker, as I have experienced
first-hand what can happen when a less than honorable individual(s) and/or a
company/civil entity are allowed to operate unchecked. But the idea that select
few union representatives may hold that civil entity hostage at the expense of
“We the People” collectively remains troublesome to me.
So the debate will surely continue and my quest for an
amicable solution which acknowledges an appropriate role for the public sector
union will as well. My only hope moving forward is that we may understand the
gravity of the decisions we make today for the sake of our children and check
the “Jimmy Hoffa” crap at the union hall doors.
Note: One thing is abundantly clear to this long time union
member though, and that is the legitimate union movement as fostered to

pouring in from all over the country to thwart a Governor and likeminded
lawmakers who simply could no longer ignore the train coming and acted on
behalf of all the citizens of the state. The results of these six races will
certainly have national implications in terms of the 2012 Elections.
As you know, I have been writing a lot about how I feel it’s
a “We the People” thing more than a “greedy politician thing”. I am
convinced we are at a crossroads and must choose a direction for ourselves and
for our posterity. The events of the last few weeks have certainly provided
support to this analysis. Polls continue to show that some folks want change
but may not fully understand what that change requires as a means to the stated
end. Those same polls also show many Americans are buying into the class
warfare and demonization tactics of the Left, thus clouding the common sense
gut reaction they feel when looking at our current problems. Therefore, it is
with great curiosity, as well as a bit of anxiety, that I will be watching
closely tonight and tomorrow to see if “We the People” really get it, or if
union thuggery, at the Administrative more so than the rank file level, has in
fact changed the dynamic. Have we reached the point where even the potential
for catastrophic failure at the highest levels of government economics, which
is backed up by sobering facts and figures, will now be ignored because a
powerful lobby has the money and influence to run us right into a brick wall if
they so chose? We may know tomorrow.
And so, considering the ongoing demonization of common sense

failure to appropriately assess the crises of 2008 with regard to the banking
industry, and I won’t defend their lack of action at that time as it certainly
didn’t help our current financial situation. With that said however, it does
not take a Wall Street Wizard to understand the gravity of the problem we are
now facing. America’s unprecedented and crushing debt, combined with political
gridlock over the definition of our “Republic” in Washington cannot and must
not be ignored. And the idea that any investment analyst is out there trying to
explain away this downgrade without adequately providing a true
characterization of the markets reactions to this type of destabilizing event
is shameful, especially when you consider they may lead folks down a bad road
and with a false sense of security.
The truth of the matter is our economy is stalled and
damaged right now by massive debt and this Administrations failed attempts to
kick start it. This is affecting the job market and measuring components across
the board. It will take leadership on
behalf of our President and Congress to put us back on track. Up and until
Washington can bring about the course correction necessary to stir us away from
the iceberg, “We the People” will naturally do what is needed to protect our
interests and our families. In the short term this will certainly mean a
shortage of investment portfolios and commissions for brokers and those who
might be looking to profit at our expense during a very difficult time. Simply
put, many Americans are more focused on necessary stability, jobs, their homes
and the price of food and gas at the moment, as opposed to retirement. I implore
all committed and professional financial advisors to be truthful to their
clients when attempting to rationalize the coming week. Explain the benefits of
not overreacting, but do not tell them “this is no big deal” as I heard this
morning. This would be the height of professional negligence and
irresponsibility in the current climate, and would only compound the feelings
of mistrust which seem to be permeating our country right now making the
situation worse.

I think “We the People” must now be concerned with what are
the huge negatives that are certain to result from this pivotal decision by the
S&P. The Stock Market is sure to open on Monday and be fraught with fear of
the unknown. How it will respond out of the gate is anyone’s guess right now,
but it’s not going to be pretty. Interest rates will rise and banks will pull
back even further in the loan giving department while credit card companies
will punish their customers. The global perspective will be one of vindication
of fears about whether or not the U.S. can recover from its debt issues and
whether or not President Obama is the man to lead us back from the brink. I
think the answer to the latter will be a resounding no! The reality is the
ripple effects of “Obamanomics” have now set in motion a chain of events that
will certainly have dire consequences for our nation. I wonder what Lawmakers
would have thought of “Obamacare” if the vote were today?? Ah, hindsight…
I’m not sure what else to say this day other than everyone
should prepare for some difficult times ahead. Whether or not our elected
leaders from both parties are rousted to action from their shiny leather chairs
is a question that is altogether unanswerable based on the events of the last
three years. I think the bigger question is whether or not “We the People” will
acknowledge the many contributing factors which have led us to this point, from
the fostering of an unsustainable entitlement class, to wars that our leaders
will simply not let us win and be done with it, and to the idea that the United
States Constitution somehow guarantees happiness as opposed creating an
environment where an individual may pursue life to the limits that his/her God
given freedom will take them.
Monday is D-Day for all intents and purposes, and we will

117,000 ended up being the number. Admittedly it is better than expected but
still nowhere near the 250 to 300,000 needed to show real recovery in the job
market and a growing economy. 6.5 million remain in the long term unemployment
line and 200,000 or more have dropped off the measuring stick all together,
setting up what seems to be the new norm of companies getting by with less
these days. It should also be noted that number was actually what caused the
overall unemployment number to dip ever so slightly to a still crippling 9.1%.
When you factor in population growth and that dreaded “separation rate” number,
the increase is actually a non-starter. This would explain the blank expression
on the Presidents face as he tried to spin the number this morning. For the
first time since he was elected, I thought I heard a twinge of fear in his
voice as he tried to reassure a jittery world from the WH lawn today.
The stock market rocked as the day traders and profit takers
did battle with the bargain hunters and speculators. In the end the DJ added
just over 60 and the NASDAQ gave back 24. It was the most volatile up and down
I’ve seen in a very long time on Wall Street, and did little to quell fears
abroad after yesterday. Confidence is not there and investors remain scared and
confused about where we may wind up economically.
Dear Washington, the American economy is grievously wounded and
in need of immediate intervention in the form of common sense entitlement and
tax reform. We must move quickly to bring our country in line with its
Constitutional responsibilities and limitations, diverting appropriate
authority to the states where it belongs. This pivotal moment in our history

Magic bullet???
The stock market took a major hit today, down over 500
points. Additionally, with the green light issued on the debt ceiling, our debt
to GDP shot to 100% yesterday. Good God, what is it going to take for this
Administration to realize their approach is destroying the U.S. economy and
scaring the world?
I must tell you that I have never been one to put a lot of
faith in what the market is telling us, with the exception of “trading for
dollars” in the short term. The truth is the stability has gone out of the
market as many companies are also drowning in debt, and long term investment is
a thing of the past for the average non 401-K investor. Folks thinking long
term are buying precious metals and “food”.
With that said, the Dow Jones remains a good indicator of
what companies think of political moves one way or the other, and how they
might affect your average consumer of the goods those companies are selling,
and it ain’t looking’ good…People are not buying because they are unsure if
they will have a job tomorrow, and with good reason. Job creation is crawling
along at a pace that looks nothing like an economy in recovery and “We the
People” can see that. Moreover, those who are invested in the United States
around the globe are beginning to understand the gravity of our debt and the
non-reality of a short term fix. Bottom line is we have become a bad risk.
There are many reasons for this and I will certainly not lay
them all at the feet of President Obama. But his untested, academic and theory
based ideological solutions have been a complete failure, and anyone thinking
clearly and outside the “party” mentality, can see it. No, we are now at those
crossroads I have spoken of so often. The solution to this problem will only
come when those we have elected to do the business of “We the People” check
their ideologies at the door and set about the “beginning” of a solution to
this ever growing problem. Appropriately, it will also mean that some in
Washington will have to accept the fundamentals of our economy and what makes
it work. Only then will any (real solution) make sense.
I take no pleasure in the “I told you so” retort, but this
is serious folks and will have short and long term effects on our future and
that of children. Write, email or text your Representatives today and tell them
we are out of time. Oh, and to those Obama apologists who just keep screaming

tax hike he didn’t like and has signed on for all of the Presidents financial
forays at our expense, (and we all know how that has been working out). It’s
not as simple as that however. While the Tea Party is made up primarily of
people from all walks of life and all party designations, who are genuinely concerned
that we have over stepped our Constitution with regard to what the true role of
government is in our lives, “elected officials” like Senator Schumer have made
a career out of demonizing one for the other and promoting class warfare, thus
creating an entitlement class as a means to subvert that very same

legislation which does just that and has successfully disguised his actions
under the cloak of “sticking up for the little guy, when he and his

Just a little reminder in case you forgot how far out of

Senator Mark Warner (D) VA gets a nod from this

debate and some of the 10 year projections for spending cuts. Warner made a
number of references to bringing our national spending in line and subsequently
drew a response from the reporter to the affect that he sounded like a
Republican. To his credit Warner shot back, “no, I can just read a balance
sheet”. He went on to say that it is high time we put away the D’s and the R’s
for the time being so we may focus our attention on the monumental financial
issues facing our country.
It is indeed somewhat encouraging to hear that, regardless
of party affiliation, there are a few folks in Washington who actually get it,
and the timing couldn’t be better. You see, as we have all been a bit pre-occupied
with the debt ceiling debate, some of the underlying but far more important
numbers have been re-surfacing. Take for instance the “new norm” of around
$3.75 for a gallon of gas, more than double what it was when President Obama
took office. Consumer spending has come to a virtual stand-still and orders for
big ticket items are non-existent. The Stock Market is digesting the results of
the Obama economy thus far and it has come down with a bad case of nausea. And
to top it all off, Vladimir Putin called the American economy a parasite on the
world yesterday because of the debt we are carrying and our “refusal to address
the matter in a meaningful way”. Now there’s the voice of reason. How this
murdering SOB is not in prison is beyond me. Nonetheless, when you draw an
economic rebuke from a guy like Putin, it might be time to re-think your
approach.
So as we contemplate our situation, and attempt to reconcile
all of the things that got us here, I am left to ponder a phrase I heard today
that kind of summed it up regarding Washington’s efforts thus far: “spitting in
the ocean”…
This Fall and Winter 2011 are shaping up to be nothing short

As Senator Jim DeMint (R) SC said so eloquently on the floor
of the Senate today, the Tea Party voters sent their respective Representatives
to Washington to address what is now acknowledged by Representatives on both

certain irresponsible and unaccountable politicians. These are folks who came
from all walks of life and crossed party lines to vote their conscience and
voice their concern about their children’s future in a nation living way beyond
its means. These are not activists or political operatives like the Soros gang,
but rather main stream Americans who love their country and don’t want to see
it destroyed from within.
Now while I had planned on responding to Vice President Joe

I have been reluctant in the past to engage in any discourse
with regard to the Founders and their religious beliefs. Suffice it to say I
have read much they have penned and found them to be a mixed bunch shall we
say. Nonetheless, I am inclined to enter this debate as I’m very comfortable
with my knowledge and understanding of these men. I say this because I have
honed much of my opinion against the stone of their own writings and letters,
as opposed to the countless biographies and supposedly “historically correct”,
(more like politically correct) tabloid attempts at revisionist history.
In my talks with my Pastor, we have discussed the
“religious” aspects of the Founders and the time in which they lived. He has
helped put in Biblical context some of what I have read over the years and this
has helped me to reconcile a number of my opinions. The editor of a Christian
newspaper (The Good News Today) for which I have had the pleasure of writing recently
has also given me some appropriate perspective. The one thing which keeps
surfacing however is that some have come to lump all who suggest any Christian
overtone regarding the Founding Fathers approach to “separation” from the crown
of Great Britain and the resulting United States of America, into a camp for
the politically blind and uneducated. This is a mistake and belittles what is
at least part of that which “separates” us from the pack.
I have never and would never suggest that the Constitution of
The United States is somehow an “extension” of the Bible as some have
suggested. Based on my learning, this would be sinful I would imagine. But I
would tell you that to deny the heartfelt and well documented passions of those
who wrote the Declaration or Constitution would be disingenuous. I also have
never been so naïve as to suggest that our first President or his compatriots
were angelic in any fashion. George Washington, like you and I, was a sinner.
He writes of it often and admits his faults quite openly in hundreds of hand
written letters. He wrote of his love for his friend’s wife and how this
struggle pained him. He also wrote of his constant feelings of insecurity with
the mantle cast upon him by the Continental Congress and a new and confused but
hopeful nation. He wrote of his confliction with the cause of his new country
and the sin of slavery. But the President also wrote of his prayers for
forgiveness and for Divine intervention against what at times seemed
insurmountable odds.
You see, I am not one who claims the Framers were sent by
the Almighty Himself to intercede on our behalf, not by a long shot. I do
however, acknowledge to collective presence of a group of individuals who were
clearly men for the time and facilitated an environment which fostered God
given freedom first. Regardless of their differences as well as their human
motivations, politics, “sins” and the like, they brought forth something the
world had never known before in such a way. They acknowledged something bigger
than themselves, and managed to shake out the pebbles to find the gold.
Perfection is unattainable by anyone but God Himself. I
understand this more and more every day I live. But as I write this page I am
keenly aware of the difference between what we live in this country as opposed
to others around this earth, (umm, shall we say Syria). The study of the men
and time that brought about this contrast is a riveting and highly enjoyable
journey. I recommend it to all. For only when we make that effort can we understand
that human kind as a whole will always be on a journey of some sort, but God
has indeed blessed some along the way with great clarity of thought and
courage. The Bible itself tells of how God brings forth the best in some who
would otherwise have been insignificant. Why should some of the 18th Century
then, by way of their own recognition that things were not as they should be,
and with a little help from above, not pen a set of documents that would
forever change the world.
I agree with those who say these documents are not perfect,
and that they do not address some of the many wounds our nation faces today,
however self-inflicted they may be. However, if my study has taught me anything
on the matter, it is that these “Founders” were aware of their differences,
(and that there would be future ones), and for that reason took their best shot
at providing a “foundational” framework that with very few exceptions
(amendments) has allowed for me to be writing to you today. Ultimately, it is
up to you to vet this issue for yourselves so as to not be confused by the back
forth over whether or not the Founders were Christians. I think that when you
do you will see that, in consideration of the results, history begs the
question, does it matter?

As expected, the debt ceiling will be raised and the United
States will pay its bills. This shouldn’t come as any surprise. It is a sad day
though, when our children’s future is so carelessly cast aside to afford what
has all the appearances of a ruling class in Washington today, a free pass once
again.
Accordingly, you all should do your homework and understand
that the bill currently under consideration by both sides does little to
address our current debt, but rather speaks to incremental and inconsequential
cuts in future spending over a 10 year period. When you consider health care
and other looming crisis’ regarding unfunded entitlement spending, the debt is
sure to only increase dramatically, as predicted by just about any economist
not working in the WH. A vote on a
balanced budget amendment will be counted and soundly defeated as a two thirds
majority would be necessary for passage. Voting for accountability is merely
lip service in the Capital today. And the notion that our credit standing will
not be downgraded because of this agreement is somewhat laughable. Frankly, we
no longer deserve a triple “A” credit rating considering our debt and
unwillingness to address what is clearly a spending problem, not a revenue
problem. Why is it that the world can see what we refuse to?
This issue will not go away people. And while I supported
the House decision to legislate instead of pontificate as the Democrat led
Senate has been doing, this is still “kicking the can down the road”. The only
justification for a deal, should one come today, is that responsible “leaders”
in Washington would somehow bring character and honesty back to the debate and
government as a whole, and do their jobs in the best interest of “We the
People” once more. Anything short of a complete redo of our tax and entitlement
structure will inevitably result in end of this country as we’ve known it for

The beautiful City of Providence…
Over the years my home state of Rhode Island’s newspaper of
record (The Providence Journal) has been good enough to print a bit of my
writing. It is always fascinating to see some of the responses from folks both
in print and on line. But a recent response from a Providence resident caught my
attention in a way that validates many of my concerns regarding the application
of class warfare as a political tool to drive wedges within our communities.
My personal philosophy is no secret to my readers as they
know me to be a Constitutional and Christian Conservative, but this is not
about me. It is however, about the perception of me as painted and promoted by
the Left. To make my point in the shortest possible terms, I was raised a
middle class kid by hard working parents. At 47, the road to where I am now was
not necessarily an easy one, and I make no excuses for the bad or good. It’s my
road. Regardless, I have come to live in a town that is thought to be, and is
to some extent an affluent community. With that said I am far from affluent and
work and average of 50-70 hours per week, including my writing so that my wife
may stay with and raise our son. Moving on to the article:
I wrote a short article recently that highlighted what I
feel are the real reasons for our financial mess in this country and received
the following rebuttal:
I disagree.
Mr. Comella, you seem to be a member of a group that is
actually laying for Obama and are willing to cause a budget crisis so that he
will not be reelected.
And you may have an income of over $250k a year: you live in
Barrington. The nation should return to the graduated income tax. The rich and
their Boehner’s are choking the cash flow of their own consumers, sure to cause
a deficit.
I live in Providence.
Now I am big on free speech and open dialog to resolve
issues, but this response made me think about how successful the Left has been
at cementing a perceived divide between “We the People”. While I would love to
debate the issue of taxes and who actually pay them with this person, I am
already at a huge disadvantage because they believe that I am some “rich” guy
making $250,000.00 a year, when nothing could be further from the truth.
Moreover, what happened to (tax the millionaires and billionaires)? Regardless,
the number 250,000.00 and the truth about it economically is an argument for
another day. Still, they even went on to point out they live in what they
apparently perceive as less of a city/town, when in fact some of the richest
folks in Rhode Island live in Providence. (Wait until Buddy Cianci hears about
this.)
Look, all I’m saying here is that any discussion over
fairness and/or our Constitutional responsibilities is a non-starter unless we
can get past this crap and understand what America really is. Stop worrying
(and assuming) about the other guy, get off your ass and make your life better.
I did… And I’m still at it with a long way to go…

Dose Steve Jobs, Apple
Be well Steve…
I know there will be some Progressives screaming, SEE, SEE,
uber rich Steve Jobs’ Apple has more money than the government. Tax him! Tax
him! Send him into exile!
FYI: That would be the same Steve Jobs whose company makes
the products you Lefty light bulbs will wait in line for three days for just to
fondle, and employs thousands in the U.S and around the globe. Moreover, does
it bother anybody that the man manages his company in such a way that he has a
far lower debt to capital ratio and more “cash” on hand than the federal
government??

Boehner, Reid, Durbin, Obama
Warning! If you see this bunch anywhere in your vicinity,
secure your wallet and pocket books immediately.
I think we can agree that the President is in over his head
and basically full of it lately. He sounds like a whining child on a playground
who does not get to be the quarterback. So let’s move on to Congress where the
real political battle is being fought. Representative Chris Van Hollen called
“Tea Party” Republicans “unfit to lead” today. Dick Durbin and Harry Reid are
calling Republicans irresponsible and claim they are “holding the country
hostage”. Now what has them so put out? The Republican 112th Congress has the
nerve to ask, by way of an Amendment to the United States Constitution, that
Congress do what you and I must do every day, week, month and year of our
lives, BALANCE OUR BUDGETS!
Message to Chris and his likeminded “comrades” : You have
been and continue to be, “part of the problem”. Additional message for Dick
Durbin: “The only thing outrageous Sir, is that you are actually a United
States Senator”.
Flash — As I write this evening, John Boehner has mustered
the votes and passed the house debt ceiling bill. In light of the obvious fact
Republicans control only one branch of government, and considering the hard
fought negotiations necessary to reconcile those members with heartfelt loyalty
to the voters who sent them to Washington
to change course, this is a win and a testament to Boehner’s ability as
Speaker of the House. As I have said, in this game of games, this is a first
down. (WH) Harry Reid will now change defensive tactics. But make no mistake;
the pressure is now on Reid and the President to finally show their cards.
Boehner is legislating and leading. The Dems and the President are pointing
fingers and name calling. Keep “tweeting” Sir….
