Worth Fighting For…

Our nation has come to many crossroads in the time since revolution. And from then until now, brave men and women have gone in harm’s way in our stead in order to preserve those unalienable rights, being “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”. So I suppose my thoughts this Veterans Day weekend can be summed up this way. As we navigate yet another crossroad, one seemingly more consequential than any before, it seems the best way we may honor those who’ve worn and who continue to wear the uniform is to educate ourselves about our great republic. You see, it’s easy to watch the “fake news” every day and come away with a misinformed or worse yet, tainted view of America. But I submit to you this Veterans Day 2019, that if you step away from the so-called “mainstream” media, truly do your homework and apply the appropriate historical context, and if you don’t lie to yourself in order to make a particular/personal political agenda or ideology seem plausible, AND if you’re willing to concede that while there have been bumps along the way, the principles of our Constitution remain relevant and even more necessary than ever before, then you will come away knowing in your hearts and minds that in 243 years, the United States of America has done more good for the human condition than any nation in all history. Moreover, you will most assuredly recognize the urgency in ensuring our posterity know this as well. To all who have served, thank you will never be enough.

Let the shopping begin…

Ode to the late great Steve Jobs on this opening day of the holiday shopping season…

I was a Blackberry gent who thought their qwerty was swell, but eventually came to drink at the Android touch screen well.

loyalties faded though, with the passing of many a confusing “tech night”, and of the fabled “Apple” I eventually took a big bite.

Now I am joined inseparable to this “way of life”, hanging on those yearly announcements and in long lines of the faithful, with Zach and my wife.

They say technology will carry the day, I don’t know about all that, but in the mean time I suppose I’ll just pay…

Sincerely,
“Hooked” -aka- Fred Comella (Patriot64)

D-Day 6-6-44…

For freedom's sake, and for ours, remember...

Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon a great crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers in arms on other fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened, he will fight savagely.

But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man to man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our home fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to victory!

I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory!

Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.

Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower

Vacation observations…

I am enjoying some time off this spring, albeit caring for my little guy with a stomach bug out of the gate. Nonetheless, I have some interesting thoughts to share with you today. They are a bit scattered, but I think they are all part of the bigger picture. Bear with me…

I was reading my Providence Sunday Journal when I noticed a piece in the “Parade” section which highlighted folks salaries then and now. As I perused the list of folks I came upon President Obama’s info and was struck by the continuing effort by some in the “main stream” press to portray the POTUS as some sort of working class hero. They simply noted his $48,000.00 salary as a State Senator in 1997 and then jumped right to his salary as President, a Congressionally approved $400,000.00. My thought was, did they leave out all the other stuff on purpose to mislead the reader? There was of course the $150,000.00 he earned as a local “Community Organizer”. And then there was his pay as a civil rights attorney along with his teaching salary from the University of Chicago. And of course there was his Illinois Senate seat which fetched an additional $174,000.00 per year beginning in 2004. And this is to say nothing of his very successful books along the way and Michelle’s eventual $100,000.00 + per year salary contribution to the family coffers. Now I know there is more to President Obama’s story, and I’m not suggesting these facts put him in the same bracket as Mitt Romney, but it does tell us something about who he really is and what some in the media will do to keep us from focusing on that reality. (In fairness, I would add here that I am also well aware of, and admire he and his wife’s obviously charitable hearts. Their contributions exceed those of many in Washington and this is notable. (It is his doctrine and political application I disagree with. And I feel his career should be vetted truthfully and completely this time around). That said, it is clear how the Obama campaign and its friends in the media will press the attack this election season.

Moving along, on this day when we remember the cause of freedom taken up by Patriots at Lexington and Concord in 1775, I also took note of another article out of the LA Times by Hector Bacerra. Bacerra writes about RJ Brewer, a wrestler who champions the fight against illegal immigration while working his trade for a Mexican wrestling promoter down in Arizona. What was striking was the fact that the article mentions how the Latino community attending these events are booing and chanting things like “Viva Mexico” and “Es un racista” every time Brewer takes to the ring. Even more striking is how “The LA Times” couldn’t resist painting Brewer (John Stagikas), in a racist light, noting how “he could pass for a Neo-Nazi in tights”, before calling him “thoughtful and articulate” in his arguments. As I read more and more of these types of stories coming out of the South West U.S., I begin to have a new appreciation for the battle on the Southern border. We are losing our country in more ways than we know.

And finally, on this day after the 100th anniversary of the Titanic sinking, I wanted to comment about a special presentation I watched on the National Geographic Channel, with “Titanic” Director James Cameron and his crew analyzing the 1912 tragedy yet again. Now it’s no secret Cameron has been consumed by the events of that fateful night and has spent a great deal of time since the 1997 blockbuster diving the wreck site. He has also been a major player in bringing to the surface thousands of hours of never before seen footage of the great liner. However, at the end of the show, Cameron, a Hollywood Liberal, could not pass up the opportunity to tag the show with his own opinions on the politics of 1912 in correlation to those of today. He was doing well highlighting many the pitfalls of human vanity and unchecked technology before going off on the class warfare thing. As if quoting from the Obama playbook, Cameron made a number of references to (the haves and the have-nots), and even threw in some global warming diatribe. In typical Progressive fashion, he ignored the generational differences and how today’s political environment is not one of arrogance and ignorance but rather complacency and preoccupation. (We know what the problems are in 2012, but do little to address them when we have the means to do so). Cameron espoused the usual unrealistic pablum as a solution but offered little along the way of individual empowerment and freedom, an unfortunate ending to a stunning HD presentation. I think that if Titanic tells us anything, it is that we must not punish success, but rather promote it and empower and enable all to strive to achieve it. The game is not one of “spreading the wealth”, but one of the creating and maintaining an economic playing field necessary for success. However, one must first choose to be a player…

Just some vacation notes…

A stake in the game…

On the matter of “class warfare” and the Obama “fair share” doctrine, I think it is interesting to note (again) who pays most of the taxes in this country, and that 49% of Americans pay no income tax whatsoever. I’m quite sure that I will never convince the hard-core Socialists among you that for any individual to see the problem he/she must have a stake in the game, no matter how small or big. Having said this however, the equation of “tax the rich” has a shelf life, and that is as long as the money is there. What happens when the rich become the poor? What happens when those risk takers and entrepreneurs are taxed out of existence? Who shall we work for then, the government?

There is a balance folks. Do not be blinded by the puppet master holding up a caricature of someone to blame for your lot in this life. That ideology has failed civilization time again throughout history. Let’s all get in the game and work for a flat tax across the board, with the less fortunate exempt until they may bring themselves up. Let’s help those who need it and not subsidize those who don’t. You know I’m right, and time is running out…

Birth control for everyone, even if you don’t want it…

It always amazes me how the Liberal Left trumpets the “Bill of Rights” only to point. That point usually comes when there is a challenge to one of their arguments. Then the ACLU usually gets involved and forces the issue by way of lawsuits and the financial discouragement which usually accompanies them. It truly says something when our Judicial system can be manipulated in this fashion.

I only bring this up because it looks as if we may be gearing up for another legal brawl having to do with religion and the Presidents push to have “all” employers pay for “contraception”. This is one of the problems with government controlled healthcare. There are just so many roads untraveled that will come up time and again, leaving our leaders to literally “go where no man has gone before”… Over reaching eventually morphs into a bureaucratic firestorm of allowances, exemptions, lawsuits and very red ink. This type of “family planning” Washington style, also tends to make folks on both side of the political aisle a little squeamish. For this reason, many Democrats appear to be parting ways with the POTUS on this one.

For my part, I think there is something fundamentally wrong with allowing Uncle Sam into our bedrooms. Moreover, the aforementioned conflict with companies which may hold or espouse religious views as protected under the first amendment, is valid and sure to be costly as our President appears to be digging in his ideological heels.

One thing is for certain, and that is there are sure to be a number of these face-offs as the election cycle heats up and both sides seek to push their government  healthcare agendas, one to implement, and one to repeal…

“In God we trust”…

So the President doesn’t like that Congress voted on the reaffirmation of “In God we trust” as the nation’s motto. His message was of course laced with rhetoric regarding his contention that the Republican led House has been doing nothing to put America back to work.

There are a couple of peculiar things about the President’s decision to mock congress on the “motto thing” though, not the least of which is that Speaker Boehner has in fact sent over 15 jobs proposals for the Senates consideration which have all been labeled “dead on arrival” by WH Harry Reid. Maybe that should be the Senates motto. Are they part of the “do nothing Congress” the President is referring to, or is he frustrated because his initial stimulus did little if anything besides stimulate a whole lot of fraud investigations. Or maybe he feels a little silly going out and touting all these “shovel ready projects” again. Or possibly, he is stumped on how the hell he’s gonna pay for any of it, or for that matter how to explain why entitlement spending has usurped all of the cash away from its Constitutional destination… This guy is the poster child for political hypocrisy. Moreover, the Congress deals with literally thousands of such bills and moves them with relative speed under accelerated procedural rules. It is the day-to-day business of Capital Hill and (former 180 day Senator Barack Obama) damn well knows it.

Now on the issue of the motto itself, it is school boy Jazzy Jay Carney who has once again helped us to define his bosses Administration. His uneducated comment on the phrase “God helps those who help themselves” which he mistakenly stated was from the Bible when referencing the POTUS’s earlier comments, demonstrates how little faith these nitwits have in anything but their own ideological belief system. They are truly devoid of honor in any form and therefore incapable of leading with the confidence necessary to represent “We the People”.

Getting there…

We are on our way… If you check the “patriot64 archives”
tab, we are up to 6 pages and some 90,000 words of commentary from yours truly,
with another 12 pages and more than 180,000 words coming from the old format.
Sadly, many of the pics are copy-written and no longer available for re-print,
thus some punch lines may produce a bit of a blank stare on the reader’s part.
It is the price I have paid for this new and more appropriate format.

Be well Patriots…
